There was nothing lewd about his comments, and it has been entirely blown out of proportion. Thats completely different and you know it. Male privilege is a physical advantage over women so men making these comments are an aggressive act. In the NYE thread I told everyone that I hoped privilege was a 2015 word. Seems like it's stuck with the clueless members of our increasingly PC and mentally retarded society.

Remember when that Australian female TV reporter made a quip to her male colleague on live TV inferring he had a small cock, and it was plastered all over the media as one of the funniest, wittiest things ever. Yet when Chris Gayle asks a woman out for a drink he is labelled a creep and pervert.

Here, the journalist (woman) fawns over the unsuspecting guest with heavy indications of sexual interests, and makes an oral sex innuendo.
It is praised as cheeky and empowering, because she is a single middle aged woman.
Chris Gayle calls someone beautiful and everyone loses their minds.
Edited by 11.mvfc.11: 5/1/2016 01:28:44 PM TBF Mel is married IIRC, that bloke is single I think (didn't have time to look at the article).

Not going to bother with the sexism aspect because I can see people on here aren't going to have their minds changed about that.
But just ignore the gender issue - a sportsperson has decided to publicly embarass a reporter who was just trying to do their job in front of hundreds of thousands of people on national television. Gayle knows that it was very possible that he'd embarrass Mel because as Sydcro said, he's done it before in the Carribean T20. Gender aside, that seems like a pretty shit move to me and it's entirely deserving of condemnation.
Anyone trying to defend it is clearly far too hung up on 'social justice warriors' or their opposition to feminism to look at this objectively.

His comments were inappropriate and he will likely be punished for them, but this does not need to be the number one news article in Australia today. There are more important things to be worried about. It concerns me that Australians would find this to be the most important thing of the day. Its like that movie "Idiocracy"

For example, that kid who ate a whole watermelon at the big bash a few days back was getting huge coverage, which is surely even crazier than the Gayle incident.

Whilst it was completely out of order and should be sanctioned, its now becoming overblown and I get the feeling its starting to become a case of overreaction to a point of joyful humiliation of the black man.

It is far from the first time Gayle has done this, he needs to stop doing it. It is totally uncalled for. More worryingly is he has on a previous occasion tried to follow up a similar incident by approaching a female journalist after he made comments to her during a press conference to demand the suggested drinks.

But if it's OK for a female reporter to embarrass and humiliate a fellow male reporter and intimate he has a small c0ck in front of colleagues and millions of people and then laugh and high five about it and be the champagne of twitter afterwards? If this is the acceptable standard of Australian media then Chris Gayle said nothing inappropriate.

Its like that movie "Idiocracy" The story ticks several blokes for the media: - The general “Australian way” nowadays to deny a bloke a fair right to ask a chick out - Covers the left-leaning media who are strongly “pro-women” in Australia - A famous well paid international sportsman behaving off-centre - Early January, traditionally a quiet time for politics and business Gayle’s move on Mel on TV was crass, but no different to what you see and hear most Saturday nights at the local pub. Gayle just chose the wrong time and place to pull a move. Do you really find it that hard to get women to talk to you?
