I think it is incredibly arrogant to so blatantly disregard laws as inadequate.

Out legal system also discriminates against men. But even if there were no discrimination, to say that their laws are inadequate and that our are somewhat superior is extremely foolish.

It's true that our legal system often discriminates against fathers, but that doesn't justify Lebanon's systematic , embedded and cultural discrimination of women and mothers. Lebanese women can't even divorce their husbands, they need his approval, but the husband is allowed to terminate the marriage at will. I don't think its controversial to say that Lebanon's legal system is currently less evolved than ours, even though ours is far from perfect and needs work. Ours is fairer, treats men and women more equally, and is influenced much less by corruption.

Quote:
http://www.wikigender.org/wiki/child-custody-in-the-middle-east/
Muslim women are allowed custody until their son reaches the age of seven and girls reach the age of nine unless they remarry, at which time they lose custody immediately. Men never lose custody if they remarry, and the children belong to his patrilineal line.

60 minutes and Channel 9 will be facing an ASIC investigation.

In my view, there should also be a Federal Police investigation into the debacle.

What Channel 9 have done is prey on the vulnerabilities of Sally Faulkner. This has cost her all opportunity of seeking custody over her children because Channel 9 have bribed the father to drop charges in return for sally forfeiting any right over her children.

It is deplorable in my opinion.

Sally should have approached DFAT as the first step who could have communicated with Lebanon's Department of Foreign Affairs.

To not do this, and have Channel 9 violate serious laws in Lebanon for a story is just criminal.

It literally is, but let's see if anything is done about it. Surely it's at a stage where federal police should be doing an investigation.

Rusty, you can't play the legal system card in this case. Women are 4 times more likely to gain custody of their children in Australia. I don't blame the father for seeking a way to get his children away from someone willing to abduct them.

Yes well I fear you are fundamentally right.

Our legal system in Australia wrt Family matters and legal custody of children, strongly favors the mother. Therefore, Australian Law is just as much flawed as the Lebanese system.

As a Father, faced with the possibility of losing access to my children, I probably feel that the actions taken by the Father in this case are understandable as it is also understandable that a Mother like Sally Faulkner will try to recover them. She just went about it the wrong way, and for that I blame Channel 9 more than anyone. They have to answer to this, as no one is above the law.

If a law is violated in Lebanon by Australians, then they should also be accountable to Australian Law because kidnapping is illegal in Australia as well.

That was quick, I see Nine have already started using the whole we are journalists just doing our job angle. Last time I checked it was still illegal to pay a group of thugs to kidnap a couple of kids. Pull the program off air and send in the AFP asap.

The father has never been charged, nor investigated here for taking the children in the first place.

Nobody with a shred of credibility has accused him of even doing anything remotely illegal. In fact, they haven't been able to fling a single piece of shit on him.

That says it all.

(Oh, and Channel Nine it's now been revealed tried to get Mick Gatto and another stand over man to sort it out) Pretty obvious who the bad guys ar ein this situation.

The fact is he took his kids away from their mother and Australia on the proviso he would return them, and all you can do is play armchair lawyer and defend him, despite his grubby, malicious actions. Just because some countries dont have adequate laws to deal with international child theft and are systematically sexist agaisnt women doesnt mean he's got no shit on him. His actions were dispicable and rather than consulting your little legal book for difference between right and wrong I suggest you try using your conscience.

Once again if its fine for men to steal their children and hide behind local juridisction to deny fair access for the mothers, then the reverse is also true.

Sadly some have been consumed and brainwashed by legal doctrine and lost all perspective on morality and common sense. A mother has her kids stolen by the father and she is branded a "criminal" for trying to retrieve them? He was the one who lied, deceived, manipulated etc but instead she is the baddie, due to some mindless respect for Lebanons laws? Morals of course come into play where the laws are sexist, inadequate, antiquated and often corrupt.

Imagine the outrage if Al Jazeera hired a Lebanese child protection agency to kidnap the kids from Australia....the Australian public will be calling for the tv station to be blacklisted as a terrorist group.
Both parties are in the wrong ...husband and wife, but channel 9 and a portion sides with the mother because they are Aussies.

If the lady was not a blonde haired, Aussie , no one would give a shit

If the roles were reversed and it was learnt that the kids were living with their father in Lebanon, and the mother lied about returning the kids to Australia on a holiday, and broke the agreement to return the kids to Lebanon, I think the public would side with the father. I wouldn't choose sides based on gender, I would figure out what agreements were made, who lied, who connived, who manipulated, the facts etc to determine who is in the right and wrong.

This isn't a blonde haired, blue eyed pro white anti father thing, most of the public sided with the Italian father in the custody battle regarding three sunshine coast daughters a few years ago. Boy people have short memories.

Come on now...You ought to know what mainstream sentiment is of Arabs in Australia by now...
..they will side with the blonde haired , blue eyed Australian woman no matter what.
But in saying that, the Father is a total contrast as to what Australians would expect of a stereotypical Arab.
He speaks in an American accent and sounds civil....so that softens the perception of his cause to some extent.

Why do you think it wont happen?

Europe has just had a 1 million refugee intake of mainly Muslim people, mainly men. And you look at Belgium which has a rapidly rising Muslim population and you think its not rational to mention this.
Regardless of whether people like it or not , it is not fact? ...or do you like manipulate stats to suit your political persuasion.

Its the problem with you Communists have...you won't call Black as Black and White as White for what it is....only when it suits your argument.

This is the wrong thread for this, but beyond the litany of errors in your above statement, it's pretty obvious that you simply don't understand what a caliphate is. Your very premise is undermined by your own ignorance.

Out of interest, where have you got this political connection stuff from re the dad?

I haven't seen it anywhere in the media is all, and I would have thought if there were any connections between him and Hezbollah the media would be all over it.

Are you assuming that because he is wealthy (is he???) that he must have such connections?

I kind of think our govt will just let the legal action take its course. They were caught pretty redhanded so its not like its an "injustice" scenario. The public doesn't seem too concerned either.

It is all in the media now.

The whole the father is "well connected" is exaggerated by the media. His mother is alleged to be related to a member of parliament. That's it. The whole Hezbollah/Iranian is nothing more the a good headline/story to sell papers and to make 60mins look like good guys.

I told you that he was connected to Hezbollah days before the media got hold of it, now you claim it is just to make them look good?

I was right, and there will be political concessions to Hezbollah, just admit it.
