$100 for 30 NES games has to be the biggest rip-off for a while.

Is anyone elses area in pokemon go just plagued with water pokemon? I reckon most gyms around here are just filled with water, and bugger all else.

Also, Eevees are just way, way too common. The amount of gyms that are just Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Vaporeon, Vapreon is ridiculous. It's honestly refreshing when you see a gym that doesn't have an Eevee-lution in it

I was having a coffee at my local after finishing up with the kid on a field trip today and had a bit of a dry showerthought watching all the pokeplebs running around.

There's either a huge amount of people around my age (give/take 5 years) who suppressed their love for Pokemon at school because it would get them beat the fuck up, or there's a huge amount of people around my age who never gave a fuck about Pokemon until it was the "in" thing to be doing and have conjured a bunch of fake nostalgia.

I played the game on my younger brothers Gameboy, Pokemon Red. It was fun and addictive, but once I'd finished it I never revisited the series. I've never understood the obsession that some people have for it.

I distinctly remember when pokemon on gameboy went thru a resurgance craze at my high school. I had to catch a train 40+ mins to get to school, so got bored and took my gameboy and pokemon blue to bide the time when my train mates were boring or not there or whatever. I copped a rimming for probably a couple of days but then after that, everyone dusted off their old gameboys and before we knew it we were trading, battling, etc on the way to&from school and it even took control during school breaks and stuff.

Whatever school you went to notor sounds pretty hectic to me, because my whole school embraced it

You've said you loaded the game up (and uninstalled it) for the young one + you called it pokeplebs - so I'm taking it you don't have the nostalgia, feels and in general no want to join in on the craze. But you show a pretty decent interest in gaming in general.

So as someone not joining the craze and seemingly no interest in doing so - what's your thoughts on how the game has practically brought people together and got nerds exercising and/or out of the house? Do you see Pokemon Go as a stain on society or are you able to see the good elements of it? Or both?

Pokeplebs was a bit unkind for the sake of narration. I don't have any hate for it at all, and have played most of the pokemon RPGs and copped my share of pastings in school for being a fan of pokemon, dragonball z & anime in general.

I think from a technical standpoint, the game is disappointing as hell even before considering the vast server problems. The content is sparse, and the features are well below the expectations set by the initial trailer.

On the social aspect I think it's a net positive, but it's also hugely overplayed. It's kinda interesting to see the media freak out about it and pad their clickbait with stories of weird things happening to people who just happened to be playing Pokemon Go as if the app were the primary cause of the situation rather than the coincidence that it actually is.

One person being a creep and putting off the kid didn't make me think that the app caused that situation to happen - a socially awkward person who probably has zero experience with children and is otherwise unable to pick up on social cues made that happen. That said, the kid did ask me again this morning if we can go out pokemon hunting again so it may be about to be reinstalled.

On the physical side, I think it's good even if there are apps that do fitness gamification much better (ie: Run, Zombies! and Fitocracy) the brand recognition of pokemon supercharged it and I think that's great.

I'm really interested in the data mining implications and potential for Niantic and its parent companies now. There's a huge amount of application capacity for hundreds of millions of GPS & image data points. I had heard that one of the VC firms that backed it has CIA connections, but it's entirely possible that's just wishful conspiracy.

Attila is extremely poorly optimized.

Go for Rome 2 if you want a better experience.

• Despite not being available in The Kingdom, Saudi Arabia has upheld it's ban on Pokemon, by Banning Pokemon Go. . Before people get all excited, they're doing it because it apparently is un-Islamic due to it's gambling like nature, it's appearance to to based on Charles Darwin's theory of evoloution (which is rejected by Islam), and several other reasons.

Idiotic Pokemon players have become so engrossed that they've wandered into cordoned off minefields left over from the Yugoslavian Wars. I wouldn't stop them, to be honest.

A teenager has been shot dead after breaking into a house in Guatemala to 'find and catch Pokemon'.

Looks like Darwin's theory of evolution isn't the only one of Darwin's theories in play with this game. Natural selection seems to be on the rise too.

This implies that there was anything shocking on the documents release or that we were all so into our phones (a device that provides news coverage and thus making us aware of the turkish situation) that we have no idea or concept of things around us. Furthermore what the hell are we going to do in response to either situation?

Are we going to riot at the fact that 9/11 happened despite the fact there has been countless protests?

Am I going to fly to turkey and take part in a lose/lose situation that I have no business taking part in?

But i guess making 6edgy9me anonimoose memes will save the world.

Same for me, first Total War edition I've played and it was fantastic because I said to my mate "I want to play a mix of SimCity and Command & Conquer" and it came close enough.

I've played 3 campaigns so far:
- first with the Byzantines and took over everyone, once you get all the tech in use it makes the public easier to control so you can go about your imperialism
- second with the Saxons which was bloody difficult as it was me v Attila for about 30 years as the Romans fell to shit around me. I had one battle against 4 Hun stacks led by Attila v 2.5 Saxon stacks which took an hour and a half, they outnumbered me but I outsmarted those fuckers and was the first to stop their rampage (After that they fucked off to bugger the Byzantines and were wiped out within 5 years)
- third one I'm doing is with the Sassanids. They're alot easier due to their mass of puppet states giving you more armies to use and trade money from the start. Currently beginning a North African sweep while slowly taking over Turkey with the Arians and Atropatene

I've done 3 campaigns

Saxons on Normal difficulty which I raped at.
Suebi on hard difficulty which I lost
and I'm now playing as Vandals on Hard - and getting raped.

The Huns annoy me, every campaign I've played they basically leave a lot of the map desolate, any idea on how to stop this?

I might team up with the Slavs as they can settle desolate areas at no cost.
