Pappas is coaching green gully who will get a crack at central coast next week, they too have been very dour and will likely just scrape into finals.

Only 2 teams in Victoria play consistent good football that's bentleigh and Heidelberg.

Top to bottom nsw would better at this stage.

Shame the SU 58/Blacktown game wasn't shown on TV instead.

Bentleigh Greens have been excellent in previous Cup games.

Yeah, well, welcome to Fox, they obviously went for the Syd/Melb angle over the possibly better Sydney derby, life is shit.

I was very disappointed at the football on show from Hume and Marconi.

It seems that former HAL players, Jesic, Rooney, the former Victory guy from Hume, and Walker have gone backwards since playing in the HAL.

Late in the game Walker did put a fabulous cross in for the goal.=d>

Pavlovic looks like he is closer to what he was when he played HAL.:)

Hegarty's close ball work was pleasing on the eye.=d>

In the other game that went to extra time, SU 58's first two goals and goals 3,4, and 5 from Blacktown were high quality.=d>

After watching the Australian under 16s over the last week, apart from their defensive 1v1 skills, they are so much better to watch than Marconi and Hume ( who I've seen play better football last year in the FFA Cup).

I don't know what sort of philosophy they have at Hume and Marconi, but the way they've been coached in off the ball movement is poor, the angles created by players opening passing lands is sometimes poor meaning too many turnovers, the keepers both had poor foot skills on the deck and the playing out from both teams was disappointing.

It really hits home the drop in standard from the pro HAL to the NPL's better teams. Both teams on Fox's match of the day, Marconi and Hume, have coaches with English origins. Are they leaving what they've learnt at FFA coaching courses back at FFA HQ?

Where is Arthur Papas coaching this year?

Having said this, I've seen a NPL teams from all states play much better football on show than what we saw tonight.

Edited by Decentric: 27/7/2016 10:37:51 PM

Hume had 4-5 first team players out through injuries or are cup tied and are working with a new coach. Marconi are a NPL2 club playing away in a cup tie. You can't expect either of them to be playing passing football in that team.

Even if the football was shit, it surprised me how the quality shown technically was still miles ahead of what i saw in Strikers vs Queensland Lions a few weeks ago. I can now understand how Jai Ingham finally made it to the A-League now.

NPLV is miles ahead of what he was facing with Roar Youth.

Hume City advance after heartstopping FFA Cup win over Marconi Stallions

35 minutes agoby MATT WINDLEYSource: Herald Sun
THEY say as much as things change they stay the same.

Hume City has a new coach, new players and even a new uniform.

But a year on from its fairytale exploits of 2015, the Victorian club’s penchant for late FFA Cup drama remains after securing a heartstopping penalty shootout win over Marconi Stallions in the Round of 32.

Dominant, but unable to land the knockout punch during regulation time, Hume appeared set to pay for its profligacy in front of goal at ABD Stadium.

After a Mirjam Pavlovic wonder strike fired Marconi, a four-time National Soccer League champion, ahead in the 94th minute, Hume - a semi-finalist last year - had all but tripped at the first hurdle this time around.

FULL WRAP: check out all Wednesday’s FFA Cup action

Enter Kym Harris, who fired home a 117th minute header, to give the hosts yet another late lifeline.

Hume still had to hold its nerve from the penalty spot.

But after Pavlovic went from hero to villain by missing the first of the spot kicks, there was only going to be one winner.

Hume vice-captain Shane Rexhepi fired home the decisive penalty to give his side a 4-2 shootout win.

On its way to the last four in 2015 Hume required a 121st minute goal to defeat Brisbane Strikers in the Round of 32 and a 118th minute winner to get past Oakleigh in the quarterfinals.

Despite being roared on by a boisterous crowd just shy of 1000 - the club’s juniors in attendance a particular source of energy - Hume fired blank after blank on a slippery night in Broadmeadows.

Dean Hennessey’s men hit the post twice, won the shot count 21-8 and had 64 per cent of possession.

Hume was on the verge of becoming the first Victorian side to lose to a New South Wales club in eight FFA Cup games, but ultimately kept this state’s perfect record intact.

Marconi, now in the NSW second tier, was playing its first game on the national stage since its 2004 NSL elimination final loss to South Melbourne.

In other Round of 32 action, an incredible 70m go-ahead-goal from Danny Choi helped 10-man Blacktown City overcome a two-goal deficit against Sydney United to secure a crazy 6-2 after extra time.

Elsewhere, Newcastle’s Edgeworth Eagles defeated Far North Queensland Heat 3-0 in Cairns and Brisbane Strikers were massive 6-0 winners away to Rovers Darwin.

Well done, first non A-League team to get 4 wins in the cup.

A review of my night.

Price: 10/10 $5 students, $10 adult. Can't get better than that.

Effnik Feed: 10/10 Kebabs. Lettuce had crunch and Tomato wasn't soggy. Lamb was full of flavour, but not a greasy mess.$10 price was a winner for value. Didn't try the beers but had some weird Turkish soft drink called Uludağ which was pretty good.

Atmosphere: 5/10 Crowd could have been a lot better but the grandstand side was pretty good. Needs more Call to Prayer.

Altona Magik of the Cup: 8/10 Absolute scenes at the end, despite the dour start. Nowhere near even a casual Hume supporter but you couldn't help getting swept up in Extra time for the home side. Marconi's goal was a rocket and made the end very tense. The Marconi fellas I met though were top blokes and had some great stories about there time with the club.

All up a great night out at the football. Recommend people coming out to Gully, even if it is a bit of a hike. It's great value for money and a more enjoyable experience than a lot of A-League games.

shut your mouth you little filthy C*** !

yeah it was a disaster how we are now out, but it took a superb hit from 70m to break the deadlock in extra time, after that you chase the game, and we were caught on counter. Blacktown were the better side last night.
However we have been the better side all year 2 loses all year and sitting first 7 points clear with 3 games to go. the league table shows we are the better and most consistent side, knockout football is a different ball game.

so you can just go f*** yourself.

Meh, hell of a goal from Choi to take the lead and there was no coming back from that. Can basically write off the 4th, 5th and 6th goals considering how much we pushed forward so it was bound to happen.

Credit to Blacktown, after going down 2-0 they really came back well and obviously went on with it.

yes about right sydcro.
Didn't SU have some injuries as well and usual start up players out ? not that it takes away a very good fightback by City.
What a ending.

Similar regards to Marconi, worked hard all game holding on with that 1nil lead, being they are in PL2 this season they have improved since their relegation of last year. I didn't rate Hume that much watching but as always keep plugging away the result can happen, sloppy defending by marconi on that well taken header with no challenge, was a sitter.
Great stuff Edgy ! really happy by that result.

Bloody rapt its covered by Fox by the way.

30 minutes at most, there won't be too much traffic at that time.

5 mins from home for me - seriously cannot wait for next week. Massive chance for Gully to knock off a HAL opponent too.

I was coming from Hawthorn/Richmond last night so it took me about an hour to get there leaving at 6:15.

Gully is a similar distance but further West instead of North.

It can be a bit of a return trip if you are further East than me.
