funniest thing laughing my arse off.....Rudd the bully, potty mouthed egotistical narcissistic doesn't get his way and chucks a spaz attack, proving he isn't up to the task

How has he chucked a spaz attack by requesting a meeting with Turnbull? :?

are you for real??? Rudd booked a flight to Sydney to meet with the PM without a meeting being organised, what fuckstick goes around doing that??? sounds very bullish to me.......bully his way to get what he wants......

i agree about Julie Bishop, class act......can't agree that Rudd would be up to the task........kunt is a loose canon........no people skill and has massive tantrums.

So in your eyes has Bishop's judgement here in supporting Rudd been poor?no I guess obviously in Turnbulls it has,not at all, Kim Beasley totally agrees with Malcolm Turnbulls decision which should surely raises questions about her job performance/security as Foreign Minister. Don't think the Libs can have it both ways on this.

I honestly think you are criticizing Rudd for the sake of it rather any substance being behind it. If you were in his shoes and was striving for a prestigious position or something highly sought after for your business and had spent the best part of two years working towards it - had assurances from an individual who was the key decision maker that the job was yours, until you reach the last minute where you start hearing murmurs that you'll be rejected, you'd be mad not to do everything in your power to get in contact with that person and try and sell yourself one last time.

I'm not sure what Kim Beasley has to do with the point I was making? As I said before the Libs can't have it both ways on this, Bishop who should be the most in-formed person in the party to make this call has backed Rudd for this position while Turnbull rejected Rudd for not being the right fit for the role. So either questions should be raised about Bishops judgement/ability to be Foreign Minister or Turnbull should be widely called out for his pettiness.

I'm not sure what Kim Beasley has to do with the point I was making? he has plenty to do with this.....he is by way of example a labor ex minister who has moved into diplomatic duties and knows Rudd very well so he is well placed to have an opinion....... As I said before the Libs can't have it both ways on this, Bishop who should be the most in-formed person in the party to make this call she has no power to make any call on this, she has but 1 vote.... has backed Rudd for this position while Turnbull rejected Rudd for not being the right fit for the role.rightly so So either questions should be raised about Bishops judgement/ability to be Foreign Minister what absolute garbage or Turnbull should be widely called out for his pettiness. more unadulterated bullshit

Krudd is reaping what he sowed back in the day and like a spolit little kids he didn't get what he wanted and is now in TANTRUM mode like the 3 year old he is

(conflicted opinion: I work for a bank)
I disagree. The banking system in this country is very good and a Royal Commission would be nothing more than an expensive political stunt which would undermine confidence in the Australian banking system.
Having profitable banks is not a bad thing and it's not like there aren't alternatives to the big 4 banks.
The banks are already regulated by APRA and ASIC and recent class actions against the banks have been found in favour of the banks. The Enforceable Undertaking recently imposed on AMP Life Ltd, Commonwealth Financial Planning and Macquarie Financial Services shows that the government regulators already have the power to investigate issues and force changes onto Financial organisations.

I particularly like this line.

Mr Roberts addressed the affidavit to "The Woman, Julia-Eileen: Gillard., acting as The Honourable JULIA EILEEN GILLARD" and presented her with a detailed contract he expected her to sign.

That stylisation of names is commonly used by "sovereign citizens" who believe the use of hyphens and colons is a way to evade governments' use of grammar to enslave their citizens.

Punctuation and grammar is used to enslave citizens!?  And we've got people here whinging about Trump.

Even more bonus points because he doesn't like non-white Aussies.

Pretty pathetic when they didn't support an RC. The banking cartel is a joke in this country.

Any reason you feel an RC is necessary as opposed to a simple review of ASIC/APRA's powers? An RC seems like a political stunt and would (in my opinion) be a waste of $100 million for little to no gain.

Australia has pretty good Banks. They are pretty conservative, and stable.

You can't ask for more than that, especially during a time of so much uncertainty and instability around the globe.

Their requirements for supporting created money just got increased from 3% to 10% under the APRA Regulations which means loss of profitability. In other words, the cost of money has increased.

It's just a populist measure that wins votes. Political Football it is!

But it is also a shame that our politics has descended to such lows in recent years. Nothing good will come of it.

A simple review potentially doesn't have the power to get to the bottom of some of the practices in the banking sector.

What powers would an RC have to get to the bottom of the practices in the banking sector that you couldn't feasibly give to ASIC/APRA/ACCC?

I think there's a big misconception on what an RC is. An RC has no power to enforce or prosecute anything, it's a public inquiry with special coercive powers of investigation that you wouldn't want to give a regular regulatory body.

The idea of the Royal Commission would be to investigate banking practices that are happening in the industry and provide recommendations on what powers to give ASIC/APRA/ACCC to help them do their job more effectively. The current change the Libs put in was good but it really only replaced the funding they already took out.

I still fail to see why we would need an RC to determine what powers ASIC/APRA/ACCC need to further regulate the banking industry. It doesn't require an RC to ask the heads of each of these organisations what further powers or legislation they believe they need in order to combat whatever it is that they currently lack the powers to regulate.

There seem to be far better ways to spend the ten's of millions of dollars involved in an RC.
