+x+x+xI agree that, these days, when Australia are favourites, they crumble. When they are underdogs, it's another story. But you should be able to handle the pressure of being expected to win. Keith Miller famously said "pressure is a Messerschmidt up the arse. Playing cricket is not" They love playing these sports, and (at the end of the day), it's just sport. So they need to remember that and maybe they won't crumble so easily. The ghost of the London Olympics looms large over the current Rio contingent. You can tell that when the organizers were over-emphasizing the point that they were going to smash the London disappointment that it was the wrong mindset to be going into the Olympics with. Telling a favorite "We expect you to win gold" is not a great strategy for easing the pressure, regardless of mental toughness. pundits "experts" expect :12 gold medals to rival great britain, china. to vindicate australia's dominance because "we" play our own sports I am content with - any medal at all That's a bit over optimistic isn't it?

Were not entitled to have a crack at our athletes, but we are entitled to point out the fact that they have underperformed at the Olympics. Across pretty much all team sports, hockey, football, water polo, basketball, mens and womens, our teams have been knocked out by countries lower in international rankings than we are. Girls Rugby was the exception, but even then we were favourites. Opals was the killer for me, to play as shit as we did , they looked like fucking amateurs out there constantly throwing away possession and tripping over their own feet, not sure if the public should be funding that shit. Then there was the kookaburras, ranked #1 in the world but getting schooled by Belgium and couldnt do sweet FA from penalty corners. The public have a right to demand better performances from our athletes, not necessarily to win medals but to set a high standard and at least compete with Britain. Britain have taken a giant shit on us at this and the previous Olympics, even their swimmers nearly outperformed ours and that should never happen. Kitty Chiller gives me the shits as well, trying to steal the limelight from the athletes and lecturing guys with iron will like Kyrgios on what is correct strayan decorum, she is out of her lane. The chef de mission should be a gold medal champion everyone respects not some mediocre hack no one has heard of.

I have a long family history which can never be extinguished. Not for me, or for my kids. What did you friggin expect? We would just go to dawn service on ANZAC Day?
