Saw small bits of the second half but again they controlled the game and created more chances to score more goals, but some poor finishing again.
A solid base to work from for the next game which i'm assuming is on wednesday?

!st game with a win, can't complain to much, it's a good start. We created so many chances though and there was some good build up play, just a bit wasteful in front of goal.

+xjeebus our finishing is rubbish It was abysmal. Blackwood was shocking by his standards in terms of finishing and combining with fellow attackers. They seemed to be on a different wave length. A HAL regular who can hold his own physically against the likes of Paddy Kisnorbo, he should've scored at least 4 from the chances he had. Even though Bandiera is only 17, his defending still needs a lot of work. The RB also played a stupid square ball, that was like a good cross for Cambodia to score! The number 16 was one of the only effective ball carriers, besides Blackwood, who beat defenders 1v1 by running at them. He was impressive late in the game. Rowles and the other CB were pretty solid. I noticed they brought Josh Hope on too, so they are fast tracking the under 16s and 17s as a more talented and better coached cohort. They've had at least one year of SAP.

watched half an hour of the second half
Gumbao teams take a while to get going but I thought I could already see a difference in the team structure

Kusmunoski was pretty good , Blackwood should have had 4 , Bare in mind Cambodia had only one 97 born player , the rest were 98, 99 and 2000 born , this to me is very worrying . Myanmar will be a massive test as they were very mobile and physical against Indonesia

+xKusmunoski was pretty good , Was he the number 16 who had black hair with some sort of top knot who played on the left? If it was his close ball control was good. Apart form him and Blackwell, few others had decent 1v1 on the deck skills.

If the two shots that hit the woodwork had gone in during the first half, the result would've seemed fairer.

Kuzi was no 16 , I think the one with top knot was Prassad , did very little. Looking forward to seeing Scott hopefully tomorrow night and also Baccus , will probs play OToole at lb and Timithou at CB

Most of the time Cambodia defended with a compact half press.
At times they increased the press to a full one, running at the Aussie CBs in our own half. Cambodia looked better doing this and we looked less composed on the ball .
One difference which was better than the under 16s lately, was some rugged tackling and muscularity in midfield. The ball skills of some of the younger players in the under 16s and under 17s were missed though.
I'll have to get my wife and daughters to appraise Blackwood's looks. With his looks, if this glamour boy can convert goals to match his talent, and transfer his apparent brilliant SFC training ground form to games, he could be the poster boy for football, and all sports for that matter. I'd guess he is top notch eye candy for the female population.

His close ball skills were impressive. Another guy in this age group who played some excellent minutes in the HAL last year with Glory is Reimers. Where was he?

+xDoes anyone have a link to a highlights package? I don't. However, both goals were nothing special. Looking at the game in its entirety showed Cambodia barely touched the ball.

Decentric , that "rugged tackling " is not something we should be proud of tbh 16 fouls to 4 with 2 yellow cards is pretty crap against a team that was playing a very defensive game , watching the second half only twice the ball went down right side of field , two much playing sideways between Rowles , Banderia and Youlley , Rose and Shabow never really involved and ball never got near Prassad .

My only concern with the under 16s and under 17s, who are often technically very good on the ball, is that tough tackling and the archetypal Aussie football ruggedness is not there , particularly from some of the defensive players, Bandera is one of these, albeit he is very good going forwards.

For a team with a clear height advantage in the opposition third there was distinct lack of aerial crosses to Blackwood and co and when they did decide to cross the ball into the box they it would hit the first defender or be completely mishit. I understand that measured possession around the box and the intricate link up play that has come to define the Socceroos under Ange and I can see this style trickling down into the youth teams, I just feel they could have used the height advantage at times to consolidate the match.
