Video of Rogic's goal, couldn't have done himself much harm with that.

Wonder if Gersbach will get any offers in January. Though he hasn't been in Norway for long.

Cap Kuracic before Croatia do. We need a RB!

like we should have cap  Steven Ugarkovic when he was playing in Croatia League

Croatia doesn't cap players who are not playing for Dinamo Zagreb, or Hajduk Split....if he was any good, he be at those teams

Jones' last second save to secure the three points: http://streamable.com/lygq

Was linked to /r/soccer at this thread. Getting some nice praise in the thread, he seems to be well liked in the Netherlands and well remembered by Liverpool fans.

jones always had the potential - he just spent too long on the bench.

you cant judge that capability of any player unless they are playing frequently.  even if they have been good in the past.  that's why all NT selections need to only be from those who are playing frequently at their club.  anything less is asking for failure.

Frankly, I respectfully disagree. It comes down to the individual aspects of the games of the respective goalkeepers. Where they play their club football will shed light on those strengths and weaknesses and, hopefully, give them form.

But if one of them is an excellent shot-stopper but not playing in the best league, while another is getting lots of matches in a superior league but is not good at keeping the ball out of the net, then you just pick the one who's better. Of course, different story if they're all as good as each other in that area but one is playing at a higher level.

Then other considerations like distribution come into it, given Angeball. But they mustn't be weighted too heavily in such consideration. The first job of the goalkeeper (especially given Australia's situation) is to make very difficult saves.

In ange ball the keepers ability to come off his line and provide a safe outlet for his defenders is every bit as important as making 'difficult' saves.

Ryan's ability with the ball allows ange's defenders to play with a higher line than what they would be able to do with langerak, jones or federici which in turns reduces the amount of room the opposition has to play the ball in. Australia's high press in theory forces teams to either turn the ball over in a dangerous area or alternatively hoof it long for a strikers to run onto and that my friend is where ryans speed off the line and ability on the ball comes into it. At the moment none of our other keepers either overseas or in the A league can come close to matching that.

I still disagree with you about langerak being a better shot stopper however even if i entertain that for a minute, Ryan makes the saves you expect him to make while also allowing the team to play a certain way. As a result even if langerak was the better shot stopper ryan would still be first choice.

If we were a team that sat back as per the pim era then i would suggest the superior shot stopper should be selected as they will be dealing with more shots from around the 30 yard area.

Jones when younger seemed the heir apparent to schwarzer at middlesborough as far as shot stopping ability. Jones however has never been able to catch the ball especially with crosses coming in. Pretty important aspect, particularly in the EPL and championship

Hey lads, ive been away for the past 4 months and would love to have the time to read back about 100 pages but obviously cant!
Can anyone give me a quick rundown on Aussies Abroad for pre-season/start of the season?

Cahill transferred to Melbourne City, has played in the FFA Cup for half an hour and the Socceroos for 20 min since signing

Juric transferred from Roda to Lucerne in the Swiss League and has been scoring goals in league and cup.

Giannou hasn't really done much in China

Kruse is still at Leverkusen which is a problem because they've signed several players in his position and they are all guns and all taking their chances.

Burns is stuck at FC Tokyo not getting matches, many hoping for him to transfer to Adelaide.

Ikon on loan from Lazio to Aauhaus (with Amini)

Rogic is bagging goals and assists and progressively increasing his game time for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers (compared to Delia)

Mooy is receiving universal praise at Huddersfield on loan, playing all the games and being described as the best player in the Championship

Luongo has played almost every game for QPR in defensive mid

Leckie playing all the games at Ingolstadt, assists (and a goal?)

Jedinak to Aston Villa in the championship. Playing all the games.

Don't think MIlligan has kicked off yet.

Sainsbury/Spira continuing to do well in China.

Smith transferred to Bournemouth, don't think he has played yet. Strange transfer as the current LB played almost all their games last season.

Gersbach locked down LB spot for Rosenburg in Norway

Ryan was getting heaps of game time preseason and started the first few for Valencia but currently injured. 3 keepers at Valencia, interesting to see what happens with Alves.

Langerak transferred to Stuttgart and playing all the games.

Jones to Feyenoord and playing big games against Man U and PSV, winning both.

That's the bulk of the Socceroos anyway, I've certainly missed people though.

Good start for Aussies abroad thus far. Biggest disappointment has to be Smith. He was getting more game time at Liverpool ffs.

oddly enough losing coaches tend to become more conservative rather than less
paradoxically it can sometimes be easier to get game time for a team doing well

yup.  they get really scared of touching their defensive line when they are losing.  it's not good for smith if he hasnt had a single minute yet.

good news is that bournemouth are playing preston in the league cup on wednesday night.  if there as ever a time he would get minutes this would be it.

looks like its not just smith

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe insists his young summer signings will need to be patient as they struggle for gametime.

Hyuga Tanner is at Bolton trying to get a contract. He played a full 90 and scored for their U23s as they beat QPR 6-1. They play Charlton tonight.

EDIT: I should read around a bit more before posting. He has been there since the start of August and signed a contract 2 days a go according to his twitter

Mate, I've got a more comprehensive response. But, in order not to derail this thread, I'll put it in the NT Discussion Thread. So, if you wish to read my reply, you'll find it there.

Just quickly as regards Brad Jones. He suffered horrific personal circumstances which make football all but irrelevant. In that context, it seems possible to me that he might not have tried to improve in those areas where he may have been weak (despite being very strong in other areas, as you said). Obviously, I've no idea of where he's at now in terms of his head space and priorities. Possibly, he wants to make a go of his football career? In which case, the prospect of him improving those particular weaknesses may well be realised.

Lovely story if it happens, anyway.

Rogic 10 games 5 goals. Watch first 20 minutes of last game vs Inverness. He will be at Barcelona one day. He keeps improving. Get him to Germany And onto their HGH program he'll be unstoppable

Leckie has improved big time. If he could finish he'd be a top serie A or EPL striker. Of you can find last weekend s match vs bayern just do it.

Irvine is scoring goals in the championship.

Aaron mooy appears to have unlimited potential and will probably win player of the first month in the championship. He is a pleasure to watch. He will 100% be in a top league next year. I'd love to see rogic or mooy feeding world class teams

The rest is not too bad . wish Brad Smith was getting game time

It's a pleasure to watch some of these games. Mooy, leckie, rogic especially

The next 6 years for socceroos looking good. Just need a killer striker. I hoped kerem bulut would be it.

I reckon Leckie's control on the ball is also what stops him getting to the level above. The world class level.

It's not surprising given he took up the sport relatively late. But a wonderful story to be playing in one of the best leagues in the world having taken up such a technical sport as football so late.

His pace, engine, defensive ability and general tenacity, in addition to lovely 1 vs 1 skills, finishing and a high football IQ. It would be like a combination of Rogic and Leckie imagine that.

over the past 2-3 seasons a lot of average to above aveage a league players have done reasonably well at reasonable european level clubs

this is in nice contrast to half a dozen years ago when standout a league players were struggling at similar level clubs
