Is that a normal type concept coming into play? For some reason I thought the buses ran for all major events out there. If the trigger is actually 60,000 and there has been that many tickets sold then Gallop can make omelettes while laughing. Fair enough. I'll have to find a better egg face thing. This one looks about right: +x

A-League crowd for Sydney derby tipped to exceed 60,000, biggest regular season game in Sydney- by DAVID WEINER
- Source: FOX SPORTS
SATURDAY night’s Sydney derby is set to be the biggest regular season clash between two Sydney teams played in any football code at the Olympic stadium. With the NRL and AFL seasons now complete, the A-League will take centre stage in the most emphatic fashion, with stadium officials predicting a crowd in the early 60,000s to watch the first of three clashes between Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC this season. The Sydney Derby has become a marquee fixture on the Australian sporting landscape and heading into the Wanderers’ fifth campaign, Football Federation Australia has moved the clash to Homebush for the first time. Foxsports.com.au understands that will pay immediate dividends, with approximately 53,000 tickets already sold for the clash and tickets are continuing to sell quickly. Get ready for A-League kick-off with the return of SHOOTOUT from 8pm AEDT on Thursday on Fox Sports 502 HD, then watch the Sydney derby from 7.50pm Saturday on Fox Sports 505 HD. Every game of Round 1 LIVE & ad-break free during play on FOX SPORTS. Get your free 2-week FOXTEL PLAY trial and start watching in minutes. SIGN UP NOW > A-League officials will hope to make headlines by eclipsing the 60,222 that attended the Greater Western Sydney Giants’ AFL qualifying final win over Sydney Swans at the same venue a month ago. That was the biggest AFL crowd at the venue since 2007, while rugby league’s biggest regular season game in Sydney in 2016 was the 38,192, who watched Canterbury beat South Sydney in round four. Incredibly, if ticket sales remain on track, football could smash rugby league’s record regular season attendance - 59,708 for Sydney Roosters’ win over South Sydney in 2013 - in that code’s 108 year history. Other 2016 markers the A-League will hope to eclipse are the 61,267 that watched State of Origin III this season, and the 61,247 in attendance for the American college football clash between University of California Golden Bears and Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii. 2016-2017 A-LEAGUE CLUB BY CLUB BIBLE One thing is certain: the current A-League crowd record of 54,436 set at Etihad Stadium for the 2006-2007 grand final will certainly be smashed, while the biggest regular season crowd of 50,333 for a Big Blue between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC will also be broken. The stage is set for another classic to kick-off the season, and Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold, who hasn’t lost a derby in 1001 days against his former teammate Tony Popovic, couldn’t resist starting the bards on Wednesday. A sellout crowd of over 40,000 at Allianz last season.Source: News Corp AustraliaLast year, he famously mocked the Wanderers’ Pirtek Stadium home by describing Allianz Stadium as a “mansion”. This time, with the Wanderers hosting the Homebush encounter, he quipped: “It’s our stadium. “We’re loaning the Wanderers our stadium for the game. “We’ve played Chelsea and Tottenham there; we played Newcastle there last year. “So it’s more our stadium than theirs because we’ve been on it more than them.” Graham Arnold.Source: Getty ImagesArnold believes the first round derby could play into Sydney FC’s hands, with Popovic still integrating new players to his line-up, whereas the Sky Blues have been in good form, particularly in the FFA Cup. “If we do have one little edge on them it’s our experience in the derby,” he said. “They’ve got 15 or 16 new players this year and it will be a new experience for them. “(Suspended captain) Nikolai Topor-Stanley will be a big loss for them. “He’s their leader and he knows what derbies are about. Crowd at Western Sydney Wanderers vs Sydney FC at Parramatta Stadium.Source: News Limited“My biggest concern - if there is any - is what starting XI do I put out out there when I’ve got 15-16 players fighting for first-team spots?” Defender Sebastian Ryall admitted the timing of the clash, in round one, has actually helped the players get through the competition’s long pre-season. “The pre-season is long, knowing we’ve got that game round one it’s been exciting,” he told foxsports.com.au. “I think it’s good in terms of the passion doing the pre-season work, knowing you can’t think of round two, round three, you have to be ready - for the fans, it’s must win for them. “I’m really happy with the draw, that it’s worked out that way.” Club captain Alex Brosque, who said earlier this week that many of his family and friends from the west actually support the Wanderers, added at the club’s season launch: “You definitely can get too hyped, you feel the anticipation and excitement that comes into this game. “I’d be lying if I said you treat it like any other game. “We go out there, and I’ve told the boys previously in games, we hate every single one of them.”

+xSurprised a College Football game got 61 000. Pretty intense. Has NFL tried to expand outside of the US? London seems to be the best chance and they are looking at it , then I have read Germany and Mexico are also spots. China....... longterm? maybe and Melbourne http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/04/05/roger-goodell-expansion-global-china-london

Current PAX 41k Current Members 18.5k = 59.5k * 90% show up = 53.55k
Stadium Members 10k * 40% turn up = 4k
= 57,500 crowd right now.
Factor in a few more members to join, 3-5k more tickets to sell and a couple of k walk ups.... 65k?
Amazing result at the first derby at ANZ with no big marquee in either squad.

I wasn't surprised at the NFL college football crowd. A lot of Sydney Rugby League fans have massive respect for the NFL and would rock up to see it once for the novelty.
By the way - the Waratahs vs Crusaders rugby union grand final crowd in 2014 was 61,823. If the Sydney Derby beats that for a regular season game, I don't think there will be any dispute in the Sydney media that Football has gone way past Rugby Union as a spectator sport. Which is a big deal.

The yanks have been trying to expand for decades. I read somewhere a few years ago that they had been trying in Holland, exporting their and other places games their without success. They said they already spent billions to date. This is what the AFL can expect, which it knows already it is doomed overseas. If the yanks can't break football's grip on the world what chance has fumble ball?.

The hurdle would be getting people to change teams. I still think they would have very good numbers on tv and turning up. The same as the Bears or Lions used to get, all the kids went to see the Melbourne teams and players play. I think it would be successful. I read their numbers are increasing in the UK and the aim would be to have a few British players, but it is tough.

Looking forward to reading and hearing radio / TV reports how thrilling game was and what a great atmosphere football generated. I know the players will play their part let's hope both sets of fans do likewise.

It ran for almost 2 decades until finally closing in 2007. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Europe?wprov=sfla1Pretty sure it was made up of rejected NFL american players who went to live abroad and played in places like The Nou Camp

+xWe'll be lucky to reach 60k tbh An unmitigated tragedy
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

We'll be lucky to reach 60k tbh Stadium members where not given tickets without registering interest in attending. 200 tickets going every hour at this stage and Transport NSW have predicted about 67k so i think we got 60k covered at this point baring a cyclone.

That wasn't the case for me. I logged in this morning, members tickets were still available and I selected them. Seats are a little ordinary so id say the members numbers will be pretty good. PAX was 40691 at 8am this morning. Also there was no free parking available any more, that usually indicates a good members turn out too.

A ball hasn't even been kicked this season. Imagine if both these teams are in the top 2 or 3 come the 3rd derby of the season. It would get over 70k. I never thought I'd see that this year.

We really need a serious 80k-ish rectangular stadium in Melbourne, or, dare I say it, a major Etihad style upgrade to the MCG. The state government and NFL would love to send a regular fixture there every year if so, no doubt.
