True , but why take them on a 3 week tour to Japan and then break the news to parents still in Sydney that little Johnny is not required next year?

Regarding the Japan tour, well it coincides with the end of the season. When was the planning and funding for the Japan trip done? Obviously has to be a reasonable time in advance. Is it unusual for clubs to inform players at the end of the season who is and isn't in the plans for next year's squads? If it is true, and that's still very much TBC, perhaps it's more of a logistics and planning oversight for a team in its first year of existence. Wanting to take the boys to Japan is a great idea to expose them to different styles and skillsets etc. But if a significant number of players won't be in the squad next year then some more thorough planning around the logistics is certainly required.

A bit off topic but Seb Pasquali who we saw vs Juventus in July who largely impressed has been identified in the top 60 world's most talented 1999 born players. https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2016/oct/05/next-generation-2016-60-of-the-best-young-talents-in-world-football?CMP=share_btn_twNice wrap.

+x+x+x+xIf the SYD u 13s debacle is anything to go by I think we need proper accountability in regards to youth academy teams. There is always 2 sides to the story, some do it purely to suit their agendas. Peter Kat don't trust him! Peter Kat has been a strange malcontent with a big ego of late. There would be parents that would be gutted that their little Johnny isn't going to be the superstar they thought he was. Plenty of emotion involved and a few home truths as well. It is shocking that SFC have informed kids they were no longer required whilst in Japan. However, Peter K has been a malcontent for a few years.

I see Gombau has been with the socceroos past two world cup qualifiers, was part of his mandate was to spend time with the young socceroos given most of them will part of the next olyroos side? Dont understand the logic behind Gombau spending more time with the senior side than the junior teams.

Most likely gaining knowledge from ange and how he does things in camp etc. then taking that knowledge back to u19 level

Great to wake up to a win and over China. The Chinese are looking a lot bigger and stronger.

Probably our toughest match in the group stage. Quarter finals will be tough, playing a team from group c who have Japan, Qatar and Iran.

Good start, it's so crucial to win the first game to get off to a good start which they did.

Just watched a replay , not easy on the eye but a wins a win :) Blackwood in midfield a major shock , rose on bench , seems to have quite a few changes from final in Veitnam , I would say main plan to get out of group and be fit and firing for either Japan or Iran in quarters . Started out in a similar way last time .

Nothing major but great hearing Talay bark to the team when in possession, "Forward Forward! Not backwards! Forward!"

I agree, Blackwood in the midfield more than a little strange, did not have a great game although he did provide the assist for the goal. Mells has left the squad so perhaps we are a bit short in the midfield and this was to cover it.

+xYa , I was suprised Mells diddnt start , how do you mean he has left the squad? He is back in Adelaide due to illness. Not really looked into it too much, just what has been said on the Adelaide United forum. He was also suffering from illness a little while ago so it could be an ongoing issue.

Hopefully he will show improvement this season.

Simione, It was a rhetorical question .I just thought other people might have made the same mistake as me. A good result for the team. But I am sure they can play better ,as they did in the last tournament. As Holman says..Early days!

Blackwood's position imo is in behind the main striker. He's far from clinical enough to be an out and out striker, but can score a few and use his ball skills to setup team mates.
Good to hear the boys got a win.

I guess the reasoning with Blackwood in midfield is so he can make runs into the box in which the likes of Shabow, Maia or Kalik maybe are not known for? Its a surprise choice no doubt.
