So looking at these numbers a little more  i find the following\

Total number of games above 25k (with an actual rating number)

15-16 - 133 Games
14-15 - 117 Games
13-14 - 128 Games
12-13 - 127 Games

So while 15-16 had the some of the lowest ratings, it also had the most number of actual recorded games.

There is a number of ways this could be interpreted, but i think it means our core group of fans are getting more engaged with the game, watching more than just the Derby games and watching the league, not just when their team is playing.

It shows our reliance on Mediaweek for lower ratings that dont make it into the top 20 Fox/FTA- means most missing games will be in the sub 40 region. Its also entirely possible in the 2012-2014 years that i missed things as well. Ive got to go back through some sources and fill in the gaps - the tables from those years are poorly organised compared to the ones i do now, and should get redone shortly.

The main channels will get more views because no one, and i mean no one flicks through SBS thinking what is on tonight. It would also help if there was actually advertising so people knew about the match which you would get on 7,9 and 10. There is no casual viewers who watch it on SBS and that's the problem, because there will be people who aren't the biggest fans of the sport but they aren't against and seeing it on TV might mean they start watching and supporting the matches. It also gets more kids to watch A League matches and they may like it.

Overall the ratings would increase significantly, on a half related note does anyone have the ratings for the EPL matches on SBS or foxtel last season, mainly to see it as a comparison.

I agree with you about the casual viewer, and those who have followed this thread for a while will tell you that I have been a keen advocate of the argument that being on a main FTA channel will bring in the casual viewers who are flicking through to find something to watch. However, I expect the casual element will be closer to 50-100% of our core viewer base as opposed to 350%. Would love it if my expectations are a bit too conservative, but I can see us achieving increases on a FTA channel and Bluebird still managing to turn it around to claim some sort of deluded moral victory as he has tried to do in the past.

Would be good to know how many games on Fox had over 100k TV viewers when ADP came over here just to compare.

113,000 for Reds/Victory last night was apparantly biggest ratings for that game since 2013. Can you confirm Wookie?

Interested to find out what the tv numbers were for the sunday night game. Im a firm believer that when Perth get the Sundy arvo (their time) game usually against a bigger Eastern side team, ratings are usually quite good. Because on a sunday night there is usually not too much on i believe (live sport anyway)

The fact of the matter is that the core aruement was always about the fact bluebird believes that simply moving to a commercial.fta station will have no impact on ratings whatsoever because he doesnt buy into all the aspects of casual.viewers etc and that ratings will stay unchanged because its the game that purely rates (and alloted time space) and nothing else.

The reason the argument was ever brought up in the first place was because higher ratings results in all sorts of other benefits such as tv deals.etc which ultimately means more money in the game.
So even just a 20-30% average increase would easily justify the move to a main fta station. But he doesnt even see that happening.

End of.the day he can point.out.the one off matches that have rsted high on sbs but we all know.that its the averages that count. And hovering around 75k-90k isnt great. Of course with enough publicity u van get the individual matches to.rate high. We know that, but its the week in and week out of average games being played that will show that being on a main fta channel will.have a positive effect on ratings as that is when u see the casual viewer latch on and watch as they are flicking.

The quality of football on display to start the season is the best it's ever been. Media coverage and advertising has been generally good and in your face, for once, since season 1 really. Not surprised about the good increase in viewership.

Also regarding the Foxtel v FTA debate, generally FTA rates at 3.5x for Aust football matches, so you'd expect the lower drawing games to get about 200-250k on FTA where as the bigger games will always be 300k plus, derbies would be pushing 400-500k.

The advertising is good but I still want more. And I hate this 'you gotta have a team', Yoshi BS.However it is working. We should have slowly snuck in during the ALF finals and slowly built up momentum and in that week gap thrown up billboard, paper ads, internet ads, tv ads until you had something like this:

Wow the wellington vs syd game rated ridiculously high for that match up. Certainly wasn't expecting that. And that's just from australia too. The new zealand ratings would need to be added to that. But who knows what sort of low rating they probably got.

Fantastic round of ratings again, and without the massive build up of a derby either.

Ratings are up 50% Awesome!! Last year to be fair they took a really big hit however even compared to the season prior this season is doing even better.

Must be all that ridiculous talk of gimmicky marquees not having any effect on the league...

And now people that were originally drawn in by the draw card are starting to see the quality and apprciate it for what it is, and that there is some fantastic football being played. End result overall ratings up and game is growing.

Its great that Fox ratings are up and right now we are open to negotiate with anyone. If fox are silly they will have no major local sport at all during summer to show beside a few racing and Basketball.

As for all the haters of optus i really dont care. If they were to offer something stupid like $100m + 2 FTA games i think the FFA would be stupid not to go for it.

At least then it would force Fox to fork out the big buck for football.

This can kind of show that we have a commited following of core fans who should not be ignored IMO.

All we need now is a half decent FFA to build the game properly and we will be going great guns.

Thought sundy night would be good.

Expect a few more of these next season too. If perth can pull their finger out and start being the big club they used to be, we can have some stella sundy night games in the East and have good Sunday arvo games out west too. No more 2pm bloody kickoffs in 40° heat for perth either (so stupid to have even played on game in that temperature in the past)

In my opinion having both Sydney teams back to back on the Sunday would have been a significant contribution to the ratings. SFC fans would hardly have switched off after our match if they saw WSW playing next and at a nice viewer-friendly time. I was at a pub and there were a few people enjoying both matches (including one guy that put $5000 on SFC at 2:1 odds and we got the winner in 92'!!!).

I'd suggest doing this for both Melbourne sides as well though it not necessarily be as much of a factor.
Having both Sydney sides on say the Saturday and both Melbourne sides on the Sunday makes sense. As does playing the City v WSW match on the same weekend as the Big Blue.

Its not a matter of going in then out

Good ratings, no doubt will plateau but if we can score say and overall increase of 25% by the end of the season we'll have done well.
