I anticipate Round 4 will be equally, if not more impressive than Round 3. Hopefully City V Ade can nudge over the 100K mark on Foxtel alone, and will be interesting to see how the MV V WP game fares in comparison to the impressive number (93K) from WP V SFC in Rd 3.

Amazing ratings for a sunday and for games against traditionally poor teams.Plus that WSW game was not great to watch after WSW went two goals up.A lot of people would surely have turned off.The SFC game was good to watch,with the game in the balance and WP playing well. Also ,yesterday was a cold day ,so maybe that contributed to people staying home and watching tv. Nevertheless ,for a round where looking at last years results,it was top teams against bottom teams,the ratings were great. Even SBS are rating well for them considering they have been doing a kyrgios on Hal.How is the epl rating lately? This has to be good for the next media rights deal.
One more thing to add.It's clear cold weather football is 100% better to watch than hot weather Football. So more twilight and night games. Perth home games at night and Brisbane home games at night should be a priority.
A question for everyone....Has FOXTEL losing epl helped HAL ratings?...Two HAL games are no longer followed by an epl game ,so people don't have to decide which games to watch to fit in with their social life.

Booming TV ratings for Hyundai A-League2/2 See all 14 goals from Round 3, including the 20,000th goal scored in Australia's national leagues' history. - Staff Writer Drama, goals and high-quality football has seen a huge spike in TV ratings for the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Season.Viewing numbers on Fox Sports are up an impressive 50% on last season after three complete rounds.Seven of the 15 matches played so far this campaign have smashed through the 100,000 viewers barrier.And figures are also up by 37% for Friday night matches on free-to-air network SBS TV. “It’s early days but we wanted to start the season with a bang and the numbers so far support that,” FFA CEO David Gallop told the Daily Telegraph. “There are a number of reasons for increased numbers but most importantly the quality of the games and the skill of the players has been impressive.”The sensational viewing figures continues a remarkable start to the new season with many pundits believing the standard is at an all-time high. And this has been underlined with massive crowds at the Sydney and Melbourne Derbies which both witnessed a glut of goals and excitement. Meanwhile, membership numbers smashed through the 100,000 mark earlier this month. David Gallop can always make a great thing really cringeworthy. Get a spokesperson to do the press releases.

+xReckon? Or is it ESPN have bought the rights from FOX? I'm just taking the piss from when we got dropped from SBS to SBS2 (because SBS has such quality shows). Actually I just realised that this means it won't be on Fox Soccer anymore. That must mean that had to spend some money on it.

Is Espn 3 a free channel in America? If so how bloody embarrassing that we don't even get free to air matches in Australia, of our own league.

More straws in the wind: ... arresting figures suggesting a decline in early season ratings have prompted an outbreak of soul‑searching at those broadcasters and head‑scratching among analysts. Early season ratings for live Premier League matches on Sky SportsSky Sports are down by a fifth. On one particular Tuesday, BT Sport’s Champions League figures were down by 40%. Could the unthinkable be happening? Could fans finally be turning off? This has coincided with more deep-seated fears in the US, where NFL coverage, for which broadcasters and cable carriers have collectively shelled out more than $50bn for rights into the early 2020s, has suffered a double-digit decline in viewers this season.
More at: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/oct/24/sky-sports-bt-sport-people-switching-football-offChivas, Mexico’s most popular soccer team, plans to part ways with U.S. broadcaster Univision Holdings Inc. when its contract comes up in 2018, betting it can make more profit by only offering matches through its $12-a-month online service. The team has been emboldened by its decision in May to end its two-decade relationship with Mexico’s biggest broadcaster, Grupo Televisa SAB, and go online-only in its home country, charging users a fee to watch matches, behind-the-scenes footage and commentary. That change has helped Chivas better reflect its value, said Jose Luis Higuera, chief executive officer of the team officially called Club Deportivo Guadalajara SA, in an interview. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-10-24/soccer-s-chivas-plans-to-leave-univision-rattling-tv-landscapeConceivably the FFA could set up its own streaming service. 100k subs at $12 per month would produce a gross income of around $144 million per annum. Of course you'd have to deduct the cost of setting up the broadcasts, commentators, funding the streaming infrastructure etc but on top of the subs there would be advertising revenues and short term subs for big games, perhaps some $ from reselling of one game a week or a MOTD magazine show to FTA broadcasters and sale of the overseas rights.

Interesting post about the EPL. They really do have terrible coverage of matches, for all that money Sky spent, they show literally no matches, in other countries every match is televised. Most would just stream matches i imagine now.

This is a unbelievable start
20K === 7 games === 0 30K === 10 games == 0 40K === 35 games == 0 50K === 28 games == 2 games 60K === 30 games == 2 games 70K === 11 games == 1 game 80K === 7 games === 2 games 90K === 3 games === 2 games 100K+ = 5 games === 6 games Total = 135 games === 15 games Well that's all good news! So, what have been the best seasons for ratings in the A-League, or the best ever regular season ratings and how does this season so far compare?

note that the same fixture last year (Hume city v Victory) at the same venue attracted 6,575 to the same venue, with less than half the audience at 41,000).

Some dodgy maths going on. At $12 per month you'd need 1million customers to gross $144m in annual revenue. Given season lasts 7 months though, you'd need 1million people paying $20 per month....

I think the FFA Cup ratings definitely show some value. Of the 10 televised matchdays: - 6 didn't meet the minimum rating to register - 2 were in the 40s - 1 was above 60 - 1 was above 80 and you'd expect the final to be above 80k hopefully pushing over 100k
The previous 2 years similarly had about 5 matchdays register on the ratings. However, this year it looks like 2 matchdays over 80K which is an improvement.
Does Foxtel get enough value out of the 5 matchdays to cover for the other 6 that don't rate?
I believe so. And I hope they slowly expand the number of matchdays televised. I'd love to see every match from the Quarter finals on televised.

The two most successful sports leagues in the world, bringing in billions of dollars in revenue, the biggest corporate sponsors and mammoth audiences every game day, are now sharing an altogether different experience: The National Football League and the English Premier League are seeing startling, double-digital declines in television viewership this season. Viewership through the first seven weeks of the N.F.L. season is down by 12 percent in the United States, while the audiences for E.P.L. soccer matches this season, which began in August, are down nearly 20 percent in Britain. All the trends that drove viewers away from other programs on broadcast television in recent years, including cord-cutting and DVRs, never punished the N.F.L. and the Premier League in the same way. Fans — lots and lots of them — did not seem willing to look away. They are now, in numbers that are alarming for the leagues, which have grown used to fans tuning in to their games in good times and bad, and for the networks, some of which have spent 10-figure sums for the rights to broadcast them. Viewership for N.F.L. games on CBS on Thursday nights, on NBC on Sunday nights and on ESPN on Monday nights is down by as much as 21 percent.
