Police have blocked the re-opening of park for today to preserve the scene.

They have 40+ witnesses so it seems pretty concrete that it was ride malfunction not the passengers misbehaving.
If you have ever been on that ride it is pretty hard to misbehave on - barring unbuckling and standing up.

Yea I know a lot of people earlier said that the only way this could've happened was if the passengers were in the wrong but after looking at the images/re-enactments it looks a lot more like Dreamworld's fault then a tragic accident.

Yea, I think most jumped to that conclusion because it really was one of the safest rides at dream world and no one would think it could go that wrong so badly on its own. But you right as more information is coming out it is looking like Dreamworlds fault, something to do with the waterpump.

They said they were opening up again tomorrow with a memorial day, maybe it's just me but it just seems way to soon for that to happen, let alone reopen for the public. The entry fees are going to the red cross for charity though, but just seems like a weak gesture of good will to make people forgive and forget.

Discussed this tragedy with a few people at work, including the OHS guys. Everyone expected it'll be the end of Dreamworld

Oh it will be, if that post by a visitor  is legit, then dreamworld's owners are in the shit. big fines and jail time can be the outcome

Personally can't see it being the end of Dreamworld. It's a profitable business at the end of the day and will probably continue to be in the long term. They will, and seemingly deserve to take a significant short term hit over this though.

What a fucked up situation. Cant believe that kid has to match his mother die like she did. How fucking cruel and morbid. One second your laughing and having fun, the next youre getting cut to ribbons by a conveyor belt.

Good find, don't think I will be going to Dream World ever again after this incident.

Dont think dream world can recover  from this, unlike america  we dont have an abundance  of theme parks. the operators of dreamworld will get their asses handed to them by qld's workplace authority

It shits me seeing the media have a go at the way ambo's described the injuries. It's as if they said "c*nt got mangled".

Why do the media obsess and create this unwarranted outrage over something so minor.

Bunch of c*nts.

I remember as kids we use to try and flip the rafts (on a similar ride at Wonderland in Sydney). As kids we never got any where near tipping them.

The reports seem to suggest it hit a stationary raft near the end of the ride. It would have had to hit at just the right angle (and considering it was coming up to the conveyor belt I would have thought it would be slowing down.

Could the six adults on board the raft been doing something to make the raft angle up when it hit?? Just don't see how it could happen ... unless just one of those unfortunate accidents (theme parks tend to have lots of cameras around rides ... be interesting to know if there is video footage of what led to the accident).

Truly sad accident though, and condolences to the families.

This was my line of thinking - what did they do to make it flip? It's been used so many times for so many years without an issue.

The report I heard yesterday afternoon was the 4 people who were "incompatible with life" were aged between mid 30s-early 40s. Very sad.

What this will do, particularly heading into summer, is kick every single water ride in Australia into review. I know my family and I were planning on going to Jamberoo in Wollongong, so I'll be interested to see if there's like a safety audit done on places like that.

Condemned asking why they were there on a Tuesday afternoon as if it were a talking point is honestly one of the stupidest posts I've seen on this forum.

I live on the GC and I can see the tower of terror from my house. Drove past last night on the way to the shops and there were emergency vehicles and police everywhere.

Apparently the ride was shut down for a short period during the day. Maybe there was a mechanical fault of some sort.

Condolences to the families affected. Truly a disaster made worse by kids seeing their parents die in such a horrible way.

Oh for crying out loud! Mate, I just made a comment. No big deal or whatever.

I don't understand why people are so uptight about stupid things. I never presumed anyone would care, I was just responding to some posts because waiting in line just wasn't fun for me.

If it's fun for you, then great. I wish you the best. Likewise, I couldn't give a stuff.

I really don't know what would make you think anyone cares about your choice of when you choose to go on holiday.

Regardless, condolences. The language used by the medical spokesperson indicates something majorly fucked up - decapitation, crushed torso, body parts everywhere etc.

I don't know, but waiting in line by up to 2 hours isn't my idea of fun.

Gimme the quiet days any day.

But anyway, we digress from this sad tragedy. Hopefully they can work out what went wrong.

Sometimes the crowd is the point actually

People arent that far from sheep

When I went there on holiday it was fully packed at Dream World and the rides took longer than 1 hour, hell even 2 hours. It was no fun at all, especially when it was shit hot and I was not used to the humidity.

I remember going on this ride, the only way it could have flipped is if they were doing something wrong I'm afraid. Sad that this has happened, feel sorry for them and their families.

its interesting that this stuff can happen, and there are incidents like this at american theme parks

BUT its because Australia is such a sparsely populated country with so-few theme parks it makes the news.

EDIT The question which will be dodged: What are they doing there in the first place on a TUESDAY AFTERNOON?

Sometimes the best times to go is during the week as there is less people, Gold Coast and Dream World is a tourist attraction so I guess most of them would have been tourists.
