Having games at Docklands is nothing like moving games from Parra to Olympic park, silly comparison.

Then why did their members vote for it? see this is the thing, last week the excuse was that it was on a sunday night, now because the game was on prime time saturday, those same excuses about fixture time.and day doesnt slide. So next excuse is to use the oval excuse but only problem is that the same fans voted for it so.im sorry that wont slide.

Lets just admit it, western sydney wanderers are nothing more than the little brother of sydney fc.  Only time in their history they have managed to crack 20k is when playing against us (excluding grand finals) #jokeofaclub

MLS math doesn't always add up

Kevin Baxter / On SoccerMajor League Soccer says it drew more than 7.37 million spectators this season, breaking its attendance record for the third straight season. What MLS won’t say publicly, however, is how many paid to get in — or how many even bothered to show up at all. And that could be a problem for a league that depends on the local fortunes of its teams to build and fund its growing success throughout the U.S. and Canada.Video: Tasmanian Devils Fight SuperbugsMLS, like the NBA, NHL and even the English Premier League, bases crowd figures on the number of tickets distributed, a practice that has become an industry standard. Major League Baseball measures the number of tickets sold. But none of the top North American leagues use an old-school turnstile count, meaning none of the attendance figures they release reflect the number of people who actually attend the events.“There’s a bit of a game being played in all sports,” said Steven A. Bank, a professor of business law at UCLA who has written and lectured extensively on soccer. “The stats on the number of people at games is a proxy for . . . the popularity of the sport.”And MLS has a long history of trying to boost its popularity as it fights for a larger share of the North American sports landscape.A decade ago the San Diego Union-Tribune reported nearly 30% of the tickets distributed for MLS games were free, a figure the league does not dispute. A former official with Chivas USA, a franchise the league bought and folded in 2014, said the club was still giving away at least that many comps just five years ago. That’s an issue MLS has tried recently to address. Howard Handler, the league’s chief marketing officer, said the number of comp tickets distributed has declined by an average of 20% over the last two years. It now accounts for about 9% of announced attendance, he said.Yet even if that figure is correct, it still would mean more than 663,000 tickets included in the MLS crowd count for 2016 were given away. And even that math doesn’t always add up. Just look at Orlando City, one of five teams whose attendance was surveyed for this story. The club claimed home attendance of 532,500 this season at Camping World Stadium although the City of Orlando, which owns the facility, released figures Friday that showed the number of tickets scanned — the modern-day equivalent of a turnstile count — was 151,060 short of the team’s total, a difference of 8,886 per game.In 2015, Orlando City’s first season in the league, the city’s attendance figures for the first 12 games were more than 17% lower than the team’s numbers.Orlando City, which says it has a season-ticket base of 18,500, disputed the city numbers but declined to discuss the reason for the discrepancy on the record. Diogo Kotscho, the team’s vice president of communications, said the club based its figures on a combination of tickets sold and tickets distributed to team officials and people in the community. Comps are also given regularly to team sponsors in recognition of their support.Kotscho said freebies accounted for about 8% of total tickets distributed but, he added, not all those who bought tickets or were comped showed up for the games, a difference that would be reflected in the number of tickets scanned.“If you asked me for every single match how many people were inside the stadium, we really don’t know,” Kotscho said. The wide disparity in attendance figures for Orlando City games appears to make the club an outlier among MLS teams, but it also raises questions for the league. While the use of complimentary tickets may swell attendance, leading to increased media attention and local sponsorship dollars on the club level, it hurts financially at the MLS level because about a third of local ticket revenue is shared by the other 19 teams. So if fans aren’t paying, the league isn’t collecting.“You want people to buy tickets,” Galaxy President Chris Klein said. “We have a business to run. The accuracy of the information is important to all of us.”And clearly MLS has some success stories to tell.Merchandise sales are up 21% over last year, for example, and since 2013 the league’s social-media footprint has grown faster than that of any other U.S. sports league, claiming more than 5.26 million followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, a jump of 687%.Those numbers help offset 2016 TV ratings that, while showing double-digit growth with an average of about a quarter-million per game on ESPN, Fox and Univision/UniMas, were less than half of what Game 5 of the WNBA Finals drew on EPSN2.Although the league has yet to turn a profit in 21 seasons, it says revenue is up — though it declined to release figures. The forecast is even healthier in some local markets, with a half-dozen teams finishing in the black this year and Forbes estimating seven teams are worth more than $200 million each. The Seattle Sounders, the league’s most valuable team, have a season-ticket base of more than 30,000 and have played to 144 consecutive sellouts, averaging more than 40,000 fans a game since joining the league in 2009. Among club teams in the Americas, only Monterrey, Mexico’s Liga MX draws larger average crowds. The Portland Timbers, who just finished their sixth season, have sold out all 107 of their games at Providence Park, which seats 21,144. The team, which capped season-ticket sales at 15,500, has a waiting list of more than 10,000.Sporting Kansas City, an original MLS franchise, has a string of 87 consecutive sellouts at Children’s Mercy Park while the Galaxy topped 20,000 in average attendance for the 14th straight year, a league record.Or at least those are the numbers the teams claim. As the Orlando City example proves, there’s no way to know for sure. And the league shares some of the blame for that.“MLS is still not as transparent as it needs to be . . . to trust their proclamations,” said Bank, the UCLA professor. “They don’t release enough information that someone could evaluate how well they’re doing. And when someone tries to do that, the counter is, ‘You don’t know the numbers.’ MLS has grown up in a culture of secrecy.“But I don’t know that this distinguishes them from other leagues.”

Anyway, here is an article about how the MLS is fudging numbers.

MLS math doesn't always add up
http://www.latimes.com/sports/soccer/la-sp-soccer-baxter-20161029-story.html

I think the NRL do fudge the numbers when they play double headers for example in Brisbane, can anyone confirm this?
Do they count both games as getting the number or half the total number?

MLS counts tickets distributed, if a match is sold out but a snow storm hits and only 5k turn up they will still give the sold out figure.

The NSW Government want the new stadium completed before their next election which is due in March 2019.

I'm disappointed with some of the attendances.

City is a few thousand short of expectations, perhaps can expect that with the saturation of home games though.

WSW, simply put, should be 15k

Brisbane should be nearing possibly exceeding 15k

Hopeful of 25k tonight but a lot of Victorians go away for the long weekend as its their last real break before Christmas.

Next week:
BR v Melb City FRI
Nux v Jets SAT
Syd v Melb Vic SAT
Adel v CCM SUN
Perth v WSW SUN

No excuses for Sydney next week. Absolutely flying atm and should get 25k in with the Victory coming to town.

We usually get a decent crowd for this fixture even though a lot of people go away. Last few years I'm sure it's been between 20-25k.

25k is highly unlikely.

But in the past, when we've been in form, this fixture has generally drawn 20-22k. Anything less than 20k will be extremely disappointing.

Would be extremely happy with 25k but expecting more like 19-21k anything more is a top effort. Will be fascinating to see how many come out and see the famous SFC looking to really put a stamp on this season after so many years of average sides.

Its not a matter of going in then out

Cup eve Victory crowds:

2015-16 - 24,934

2014-15 - 23,827

2013-14 - 23,226

2012-13 - 20,683

Just to give an idea of what it usually gets. Expecting around 23k tonight.

So they got their lowest crowd in 5 years for this fixture yet their memberships are one of the highest in recent years. Victory must be gollowing Citys lead and selling their fair share of pet memberships. Either that or some are jumping ship across to Vision fc.

Crowd predictions:
Bris v city - 12'000
Nix v Jets - 5'500
Syd v Vic - 18'000
Ade v ccm - 10'000
Glory v wsw - 10'000
Total = 55'500
lol pray for phoenix round 5 should be handing out tickets after that shitshow.
the results of adelaide and glory this week won't help them with crowds either.

Bris should hopefully get more than that against citeh considering they got 13.5k against Perf. Nix will be lucky to get 7k after that rubbish plus 1 goal and no points in 4. We should be pushing 20k+ as the Big Blue is massive, I'll be disappointed with less than 20k. Adelaide yep sounds about right and Glory could get a few more in maybe pushing 12k.

Bris v city - 14k
Nix v Jets - 7k
SFC v MV - 20k
AU v CCM - 11k
Glory v WSW - 11k

Its not a matter of going in then out

lol. If Roar only get 12k against Cahill FC we can cancel the guest marquee program for ever because clearly it wouldn't be working. So far there's been no predictions out of the club (which are notoriously on the high side any way) but anything less than the biggest crowd of the season, so over 16k, should be seen as a failure and if the weathers fair (yes rain does put people off) then anything under 18k is a slap in the face for the ffas mega-marquee-plan. Let's hope Timmys got the pulling power ;)

Friday nights are not good for Brisbane fans. You said that.

@ Caltex

I did say that and 6.50 remains a dumb kick off time for a stadium where the only option is public transport and public transport is set to "outbound mode" to get commuters home and you can wait 30 minutes to get an inbound bus/train. Why they can't make it 7.15 is quite frankly stupidity (Facebook is regularly populated with angry casuals complaining they missed the first 20 minutes because the train/bus was late - it doesn't inspire casuals to leave the tv that's for sure!)

But Friday nights aren't total write offs just lower crowds than Saturdays - whatever Roar get on Friday you can add another 2-3k if the game were played on Saturday.

The right opponents draw 15-17k even on a Friday night so anything jess than that is pretty poor, a crowd less than the Glory game in unthinkable so I'd say 15k+ pushing 16k. Play it at 6 PM on Saturday and I'd say ~19k

Predictions -

Roar/City - 18,000 (ticket sales looking really strong)
Welly/Jets - 6,000 (low but to be expected)
Sydney/Victory - 20,000 (seriously Sydney. Fine weather and big game after winning the first four)
Adl/CCM - 10,000 (would be a pass)
Glory/WSW - 11,000 (nice weather, Glory doing well and a high profile opponent. Would be nice to outdraw the cricket as well)

65,000 would be lovely and continue the good start to the year. I don't think any of these predictions are overly optimistic either.
