@ paddythelips

lol 😂

I'm not sure what there is to explain?

Roar has a pretty loyal core group of fans plus we've always valued the W League team - the record set yesterday beat the previous record set by Roar at Broadbeach last year (just over 3k from memory).

Membership is a different question, we'll end up with 6k members this season which is about right but really people don't see them as anything other than a cheaper way of getting tickets - you can always get a seat at Suncorp right lol?

Fans remain pissed off with the ownership issues but I believe that is stopping us growing crowds rather than turning existing fans away

At a club level they have improved marketing, there's a regular weekly newsletter going out to 40,000 fans, on-line is shears good with Roar, they've been advertising on billboards and radio plus local media has covered more on Roar with 7, 9, 10 and ABC featuring Roar more and even the Courier Mail has improved its quality and quantity of Roar content. There's even talk of the club investing in tv advertising.

I guess we wait and see where we end up - an average crowd of 15k+ would be success, and 3k+ (including double headers) for the W league team would be ideal.

Any other local thoughts?

I don't think you can analyse crowd figures in Brisbane with any confidence. But no doubt the membership issue is linked to the massive stadium and the fact you can normally rock up and get a reasonable seat without any problems.
Brisbane public love events and Cahill was no doubt a significant event. They also don't suffer fools or crap.So if the football or owners are serving up something they don't like they are gooone. With so many things to do the tipping point is very small.
So for Roar ,if they are playing boring football or losing it will be ..meh ,im going to the beach, but I still hope they win .
The Reds, rugby team, when they are going well will have 35k crowds easily. When they are playing rubbish and losing they will struggle to get 15k. As they have last season.
Sometimes I think Brisbane is a special case, but realistically it's not much different from any other place.SFC have comparable crowds to Brisbane. It's the derby that makes the real difference for them.
For me promotion and media presence are critical.
One thing I am sure of though is that a big name marquee would work very well in Brisbane.

Where do you get Phoenix crowd figures from? They never seem to be published (too embarrassing I think) and they aren't even on Twitter.

I was hoping the Big Blue would also crack 20k (good for the game etc) but I guess its suffering from the rise of the respective derby matches in Sydney and Melbourne. People get annoyed when "averages" are quoted that exclude the derby matches but it's a reasonable way of assessing how non-derby games are travelling. SFC, like Roar, suffer from "big stadium syndrome" and while neither of them are leaving their respective cathedrals anytime soon I would hope they'd both consider taking a handful of games to smaller venues each season (in Roars case that option is limited to one venue in the city) as the smaller stadium will provide great atmosphere with a small crowd (which research proves increases attendance). As for the Big Blue, all is not lost, there's plenty of history there it just needs reinvigorating - I can only assume a Cahill like guest marquee signing for each side would push the crowd over say 30k next season?

We signed a new deal in the off-season with SCG Trust to play all our home matches at Moore Park.
I was under the impression it had been suggested we would look to take 2-3 of our lowest-drawing games to alternate venues with Leichardt Oval suggested, similar to what you're saying.
But then SCG Trust offered us a VASTLY improved deal as we are now the main tenant at the ground. So as good as that idea would be, I doubt we will be doing anything of the sort in the near future as a result.
Hopefully the SFS gets a re-do soon once Parra is finished. Would be idea to knock it down and build a modern 35k but doubt it will happen.
We definitely need a permanent ground and base to house our training and W-league NPL and Cup games though.

Its not a matter of going in then out

Anyone that wants to know any attendances from any year go to ultimatealeague.com.au, or they also have an app for iPad or iPhone.
A great website, all they need now is a separate tab to measure TV ratings.

As I said, the Brisbane v City crowd was always going to be the biggest of the round. Now sure how big a club can say that they are, or they can be, when they can't even get 20k for their biggest rivalry outside the Sydney derby.

Whats interesting is that wsw wont get 19k all season unless they play Sydney. and this is a team that likes to talk up how many membera they have.. give me better attendances over members anyday of the week.

And they've had far more success including GF last season.
We're doing just fine, fk 'em honestly. 2 good crowds to start the season, 5 wins, NPL champs and W-League finalists last year, who gives a damn what WSW cock heads think of our attendance. Should be some big crowds and matches to come!

Aussie Pride -
looks about 11.5-12k and a good atmosphere. Have to say I'm pretty impressed by Adelaide in general so far this season, and good crowd on a Sunday will do nicely. Hopefully another 10k+ in Perth would round out another pretty good weekend.

Dare I say it the league is flying at the minute,  good crowds, ratings and most importantly good entertaining games. Only the Wellington game was poor, the rest were all good for the neutral.

JoFFA is rallying them to move them back to Auckland. Because they need a derby for some unknown reason to make them legitimate.
