When it comes to the main channel of 9,7 or 10 I think its almost impossible to have a rating below 500k around prime time.people watch the news and then a lot just can't be bothered changing channels.

Does anyone know the ratings for W-League and Bris v AU?

That's why I want ch 10.

They get good ratings for the project, then have the football come on.

They also don't have any other code. It seems like if there is any chance of getting on the main channel it would be 10.

A good outcome would probably be if 9 outbid 10 for the Big Bash and then 10 use some of the money saved to get A League on their main channel Friday/Saturday nights. 9 show all the cricket leaving 10 to promote the A League.

I think 10 would probably be the best FTA broadcaster for football: they have a younger demographic and will treat it more seriously than 9 or 7 who will always treat it as a secondary interest to their traditional AFL/Cricket/NRL coverage. 10's promotion of their Big Bash coverage is non-stop and is cross promoted on many of their other shows. Imagine if they did that for the A League instead.

I think the very best scenario at this stage is that an FTA channel comes forward and wants to show that one game per week (I think it is now becoming pretty obvious that very little money, if any, will change hands for that one game per week).

You got a source for that Mr Football?

Probably a reasoned mind. What do you mean by "source"? It's speculation like everything else here.

I would suggest he could reference the fact that sports that have FTA ratings similar to the ALeagues actually have to pay to get on FTA

VFL (actually not derogatory) gets about 50,000 a game on 7 mate in Melbourne has to pay the production costs

Maybe he could point to the WBBL and AFL Womens, both having previously pulled ratings far far higher than the A League, both have deals where the production costs are covered but they get no extra money

What did you think was meant when Gallop spoke of a trade off between revenue and reach? People thinking that some FTA is going to pay the big bucks for one game and then promote it massively and put it on its main channel may as well should sell up their house and move to pixie land. You can pay whatever you want for a dream house in pixie land, the women are all beautiful and the soccer is going gangbusters

Four years on FTA every friday night for seven months, how many people do you think are still unaware the soccer is on? Why would 60,000s suddenly become the 600,000s that are entry level for getting on the main stations at prime time and getting any serious coin? People who care for the a league enough have foxtel. May be not many others care for it enough to sit down and watch whole matches

Seriously, there are a lot of rude people on this forum. Is this a broad church of soccer fans or a closed shop for new-dawner fantasists?

Please leave. You won't be missed. We've gone through 100000000000 times why a main channel FTA game on a Saturday night will rate 3-5x more than the current arrangement on SBS VICELAND. It's not some soccer circle jerk, it's analysis.

Well, 5 times 60k and you're in the "production costs" zone at best. No FTA is paying money for a something that rates 300k on their main channel

Can you show your working on that?

Any quotes? Estimates? Contracts you are privy too?

Or are you just pulling figures out of your own ass?

You have no idea how much the production cost would be. At all.

Working out? 5*60=300

Don't know what the production costs are but both the wbbl and the inaugural afl women's are getting no payments but have their production costs covered

Last Saturday night, the women's big bash got 284,000 in the prime time

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2016/12/saturday-10-december-2016.html

The week before, ten's prime time shows were re-runs of Macgiver and Hawaii 5-0 which averaged 235.

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2016/12/saturday-3-december-2016.html

So when your default is to put on re runs of 80's shows and still pull a cheeky 235, you can understand why ftas arent jumping out of their skins to hand over millions for a game that will be simulcast on Foxtel and is currently pulling 60k on Friday nights on sbs viceland,

Apologies if my analytics doesn't reach the lofty standards of the bulk of the posts on these matters on these forums

Where is this proof that their production cost are covered? Or that they are getting no payment for it?

Any decent reference. All your doing is spitting out numbers ir ratings. No dollars.

And how do you know how much it cost to buy the license to American shows like the ones you have mentioned?

And just a side point. Hawaii 50 and magiver are not re-runs. They are re makes. New shows copying the premise if the old 80s shows.

It's a good deal for the new Women's AFL, but it should be noted that there is no increase in broadcast revenue, the main benefit is that all games are broadcast either on FTA or Fox, and the broadcasters are covering the productions costs.  Unfortunately for the AFL, it's broadcast revenue for the six years starting next season will remain at $2.5 billion.

This is why I mentioned elsewhere that for a commercial FTA to grab one week per round of the A-League (non-exclusive), at essentially zero cost, would be a good outcome for the A-League.

AFL troll is doing his best work .
The truth is nobody knows how well a first choice HAL game will go on 9,7 or 10.Least of all someone pulling 'facts' out of his rear end.
But considering what 9 and 7 have forked out in the past for some exhibition games involving European club sides,it's not a huge stretch to imagine big HAL games like big city derby games generating a bit of interest and outrating Womens BB circus league.

Precisely why I have always argued that these exhibition games are detrimental to local soccer and do nothing to further the interests of the A-League.

It is for this very reason that the J-League put an end to such tours years ago.

It's that magical combination of bitter old people with too much time on their hands who discovered the internet. No offence to any forum members over 50/60 but it's an epidemic aha

Facebook has become a weird old peoples home in the last few years too of bewildered seniors who have unleashed themselves into a world they do not understand but are determined to be a part of. Selfish baby boomers who want one last tiny bite of the cherry.

I wonder if the next generation of kids will rebel against all this.

Leave him to spend his days logging in and out of 4 accounts to have conversations with himself while he touches himself when someone responds.

It's all he has.
