City crowds are ok considering they're a difficult team to watch despite the firepower they have. One thing hasn't changed and it was apparent against last night, not enough city merchandise in the crowd, go to a victory game and everyone is decked out in MV gear, you actually feel out of place going there as a casual, at city games you could wear green, brown, black etc and nobody will bat an eye lid, very casual crowds. Outside of a genuine world class marquee I still can't imagine the top tiers of AAMI park ever being opened.

City crowds aren't ok. Look at the stats. ON A THURSDAY Perth got over 9k. ON A FRIDAY City got 10k and a bit. That is a joke right there considering what City have been handed these past few years.

Anyway regarding Roar do you guys reckon having a game or 2 at Metricon or Cbus in the Gold Coast will help them?. Similar to what Victory is doing in Geelong. I think Saturday night game fans will travel that short distance and also it will be so much better having a decent crowd in a stadium that holds 30k and not 50k.

It's a hard one to judge, they have improved since the heart days obviously, but has the base increased enough relative to the spending (most expensive squad in Australian history) and name players in the team, on top of being the face of the competition this year? I'll let others decide, they will sit around a low of 8k and maximums of 11k I'm guessing until CFG actually bring down a name that can excite.

The failure with City is with the amount of money and promotion put into the club/squad, they have only achieved modest increases in their crowd.

A definite NO to Roar play home games away in the Gold Coast. We play in Brisbane.

Maybe Melbourne isn't a very big football market and Victory got most of the "easy" part of the market and all that is left is the hard to convince and the non football people who have to be won to the game.

if it was still heart but with huge investment behind it landing Cahill and a good squad the growth would have been potentially bigger. However The growth has come from a rebrand and being the umbrella club of a foreign team, so to most football fans in Melbourne the growth from the club that started 7 years ago hasn't been organic.

Melbourne is a huge football market, it's just that Manchester city isn't exactly going to get the locals excited.

On what basis do you say its a huge football market?  Are there any huge football markets in Australia?

I feel like that is one of the better sat arvo games for attendances.

In any case, another really good crowd for BR.

Accepting the Gyfox position, the question still remains. With the amount of money spent to convert those hard to convince/non football people, it doesn't seem like the FFA are fishing effectively then...

There's lots of comparison going on with the A League at the moment, most of them tend to be negative and involve BBLs ratings and attendance, and soon it'll be comparisons with the AFL again. Let's not pretend we're not a little bit jealous but then let's move on as not all comparisons are poor - aggregate attendances of 1.8 million are higher than Super Rugby and the equivalent top tier competitions in both England and France - in all cases we are comparing with nations that are significantly bigger than ours with sports way more established than we are. The FFA now have it within their power to make all clubs more financially stable through the new tv contract, the next step should be rapid expansion to 16 or even 18 teams. Assuming average attendances stick around the 12.5k mark with any expansion:

16 teams = 3.2 million aggregate
18 teams = 4.1 million aggregate

The increase in revenue into the game would be in the region of $35m-$58m assuming an average ticket of $25/each. The fight for relevance comes in many forms but making our sport more relevant through increased participation plays to our strength, bolt p/r on to that and I think we'd be travelling well.

That was a good crowd for Adelaide last night, the team is pure garbage you are subjecting yourself to 90 minutes of torture watching that crap.

10,000 though would easily be 15,000 if the team was a threat of being relegated, and you could bet they would be hitting the transfer window hard, you think they would stick it out with that dud guardiola up front if they were a threat for the drop? Holland would be looking for an npl contract as well. Instead Adelaide fans have to watch another few months of this crap without any hope for improved results.

I don't understand the mentality of salary caps and protecting the shit teams. It's insanity and does nothing to help football.

It doesn't even force coaches into a different mindset, it would be awesome to see Amor coaching with the threat of relegation looming on his head. Every single aspect of that club would need tinkering/change from top to bottom to rescue the situation.

As it stands the same crap team will be out on the field every week, amor will look like he doesn't give a shit, and the board and fans will continue to hammer eachother for the next few months. But At the end of the day it's all meaningless as Adelaide can just press the reset button at seasons end.
