And replace him with who?

Frank Farina, Branko Culina, John Kosmina.

No shortage of ex Sydney FC coaches to pick from.

We could have signed one of them, if we released a visa player this frees up the slot but we have to accept his wages in the salary cap, that is no issue as we have a free marquee spot which is outside the salary cap.  So we could pay Messi whatever the asking price was and it would be fine.  So there is more to this tory than that.  There is no rule on who we can make a marquee, Sydney FC could make Matt Simon a marquee and nothing can be done about it.

If Jumpei is your other marquee then it doesnt work. Even if he isnt you cant just release a player without their approval.

This reminds me of the time the FFA introduced a $250k fee for any club that brought over an international team in the preseason. The premise was that clubs either had to bring over a commercial mainstream club or risk making a loss. Forget about testing squads in the preseason, forging bonds, or playing middle weight clubs. If money cant be made from it then the game simply isn't worth it. Either play Man Utd or play Stanhope

The same line is being taken with players. Forget building a strong squad. Forget trying to win a title. If an international player cant drive ratings or attendances then they shouldn't be playing here. Either sign Cahill or stick to the $2.6m for 20 players

No good can come from turning away the next Berisha or Broich

Typical westie blaming everyone but themselves for their own predicament   ;)

I couldn't care less about the Wanderers predicament. We need to bolster the profile of our league. We are turning away good players who are currently playing in tough leagues who would be perfect for our league. Ok so they aren't the mega Marquee that the FFA is hoping for, those players come to our league maybe once or twice in 10 years. Are we really going to set aside funds that aren't going to be spent. Not only that, these funds will only be spent by one or two clubs who can actually attract a player that fits the FFA's strict criteria. We are ruining the credibility of the league when we are not allowing players who "are not good enough" to play in the A-league when they are already playing in the top 5 leagues in Europe. Once and for all we need to get rid of this ridiculous rule. Spread the wealth out of this fund and distribute it to the clubs so they can at least increase the salary cap and they can buy it with better imports than they currently have.

I agree with you almost everywhere except the "we're ruining the credibility of the League" comment.  Nobody in the world cares who you reject, just who you sign.
Maybe some guys in Rockdale might have crossed the tracks to see him but let's face it, he's not a great player no matter who he has sat on the bench for.

Lol at WSW fans being butthurt again.

There's no way on earth that Pandev would ever qualify as a Guest marquee. No one knows him other than Serie A followers. That's his chance ended right there. He IS however an excellent candidate to be a marquee. You want Pandev, release Jumpei - who's pretty useless. That assuming Jumpei is their second marquee after Nico, or is it Nichols???

Don't complain to anyone else if your club just hasn't managed the cap well enough. You could release Borda to free up a foreign spot, but his wages/payout would still count to the cap. Releasing a marquee is your only option for this season

Both Adelaide and the WSW have both stuffed up their recruitment horrendously this season.

The FFA haven't screwed WSW over, they just applied the rules. No more bailouts with bonus foreign spots anymore.

I am complaining about the Guest rule in general. It needs to go, so does the Salary cap.
