+xWasn' t it reported that Silverlake recently paid $130m for a 30% share of the APL ? Do the maths on that basis then 100% of the business would be circa half a Billion dollars . Is anybody on here saying that the business is not valued at what the market has recently shown it is willing to pay ?And if anyone is asking why the Jets don' t have a new owner yet , that is a question for those in charge of the APL . And a very good question at that ! No it was ReporteD that Silver Lake purchased a 33.3% share of the APL and bY tHeir very own "maths" valued it at 300 m i l l i o n. Not sure iF you underStand what ventuRe Equity is but a PREtTy easy google searcH may help you UNderstand - "In 2021, Silver Lake purchased a minority 33.3% stake in the Australian Professional Leagues, otherwise known as the APL. [9] The group is responsible for organising Australia's national association football leagues, being the A-League Men, A-League Women and A-League Youth. Silver Lake has estimated the value of the APL and its affiliate holdings at over US$300 million. [10]"

+x+x+x+x+xOk Footyball , you go and build a circa half a Billion dollar business from nothing in 15 years , since you say its such a " low bar " ... Half a billion dollar business that can't attract a buyer for 3 of its licenses? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH oh my sides...... Everyone has an owner except Newcastle Jets, however good or not so good (Roar), their owners are. A League is moving fwd very slowly. Bring on the NSD as well. Is PeRth GLoRY stiLL trying to sell to BitCoin Billionares? What about the McVictory shares? How are they sellling on the marketplace? IS CCM still up for a "grand sales, grand sale"? I would have thought a 1/2 billion dollar mls lite ponzi scheme would have savvy busine$$ people lined up aRound the block to buy in? ..... Didn't unclE Franky copy the franchise agreement paperwork correctly? C'mon Remote... reply with something witty and intelligent.... And change the habit of a lifetime ?

+x+x+x+xThe two sticking points will tell who won the battle. Must be winter - if its in summer, the APL has won the battle, and it will always be a poor second cousin to the A League. Initially no APL youth teams - if they win promotion in their right, good on them, but no free tickets. If we have a winter competition with promotion and relegation, it will be the premier Australian football competition within 5 years, and the A League will die a natural death. This is the fear of the APL, and who can blame them for fighting the existential battle they have on their hands as best they can. I am hearing that VIC and SA are pushing for winter to align with NPl from get go, QLD is borderline but NSW and NNSW clubs are dead against it and want to play in 40 degree heat to align with the Aleague...... very sketchy source for this though so *grain of salt* The greater participation in NSW may have something to do with that. Very hard to attend when you are playing yourself. I'm in NSW - haven't played in quite some time and would love a winter comp. My son who plays - not a fan. Im a little torn on the issue to be honest. I quite like the thought of summer afternoon football, better weather, beers in the sun, frees up June/July for Euro trip etc etc but at the same time, if this comp is to ever make a meaningful impact it has to be played when ALL of soccer in this country is played so that pro/rel can be implemented from day dot.... Make 3pm Sunday kickoff sacrosanct, most junior football is over by then we will have a closed NSdL at the bottom so not a issue P&R only between A-L and NSdL if we are to follow how J2 started up, then a NTD in 30 years after NSD set up

+x+x+xHow's the SMH president already talking like this though aha: The beauty of this is that [an NSD's] a competition that will be owned by the FA and they similarly have to put resources in to make sure that the commercial aspect of it, at some point, can contribute back to the clubs," he said.
"I'm not for one moment suggesting that they need to be funding us from day one, not at all. This is an investment that we're all making."But at some point, they also have to make sure that they've got the appropriate resources to make sure that this competition also gives back to the clubs. I thought Nick's quotes are quite reasonable. Do you not agree that the purpose of the competition is to drive improvements at club level? I guess if you see his reference to "resources" as "dividends" or broadcast payments like for the franchises then yeah fair enough but a member's owned club doesn't need to make a profit remember... its all about growing the club. These clubs will be NFP sporting organizations, at least mostly. I'm half yanking your chain but it's funny that he sounds like an A-League club president already before the comp has started. Yeah, wait till he announces that next season South are playing all home games at AAMI..... we can out-plastic the plastics any day of the week. hahahahahahahahahahah

+x+x+x+xMind you his predecessors have set a low bar. Yeah , what did they do , other than build a circa half a Billion dollar professional football league from scratch in 15 short years ... It's a closed league, with a low salary cap, JJ decoupled it. What other ceo did that, and bring in all the sponsors and broadcast platforms after they lost just about all the previous sponsors and platform, like JJ has, in such a short time? Also, two marquees now for each team. Are you, 'wait for it,' D Gallop? No one else has the gumption to set up a NSD, reform youth structures and transfer fees among other areas of reform. There have always been minimum 2 marquees per club. Initially one Aussie one foreign. That rule lasted 5-6 years. Then it just went to any two players as marquees. Foxtel along with FFA even brought in a third marquee that had to be marketable. "the Cahill rule" Credit JJ all you like. Just make sure they're factual. I'd also add that having 'decoupled', it was the APL that organised Paramount, Silverlake and the latest Marquee rules. Not JJ. Make of that what you will

+x+x+xthis thread is 5 years old and the league is no closer to p/r now, to back then .... the FA needs to go To be fair you had covid which stopped the world for two years Yes , and they could have done all the planning in that time when they had little else to do ... They had heaps and heaps to do, they kept the comp going so we can watch it and staved off a greedy machine called fox sports pulling the pin, who re-negotiated a cheap deal when they saw a loophole in the contract during covid.

+xHas anyone heard any details about if they've put requirements on stadium size, license cost, female teams, youth academy etc? Hope they can also bring in Canberra and Tassie No criteria yet. 1. Model chosen 2. Criteria defined 3. Clubs choose whether to submit EOI 4. 'They' select the starting teams. Need to wait at least for 1, (and probably 2) before an idea of who'll want in.
