+x+xIn Vic South Melbourne managed to pull $500k in direct sponsorship last season Heidelberg, Hume and Bentleigh Greens are over $300k in a below the line competition and self generated by these clubs Point is there are tier 2 sponsors out there Just because HAL is out of reach for them it does not mean there is no money for a second division Financials are not an issue Yes that is correct. there are so many viable clubs out there, and they have been ignored for far too long with nowhere to go. This Tier 2 has the potential to be the best thing that has happened in our game for a very long time. it will rejuvenate the supporter base out there, and the flow on effects for the A League are on the positive side for me at least in my opinion. Crowds should go up, sponsorship will go up, and exposure will increase. there is no such thing as bad publicity either. How will Tier 2 positively effect the HAL ? I contend, without P&R, it will become a competitor.

That's all these clubs need to cover compared to now. They can pay the same wages for the same players if they want, or get a sponsor/benefactor on board willing to splash some cash and pay for some ex-AL older OS players. The FFA could even chuck in $2M odd just to cover the travel costs for the whole of the 2nd Div, similar to the way they cover the AL wages for all AL clubs to the tune of about $25M (afaik).

This probably works best if there's transfer fees, otherwise 2nd Div clubs will just be pissed off losing all their better players for nought.

The framework and timeline needs to be set now, with these new talks.

It's all speculation of course which there is no way I can prove. It should also raise the standard and be a rich recruitment ground for A League teams. But for it to be fair, NPLA Teams should benefit from transfer fees. The only way to know for sure, is to see what happens when NPLA is inaugurated.

+xI acknowledge there is a very real chance this may damage the game but there is an equally good chance should they get this right the game in australia may be ready to take off to a new level. I'm surprised how few are willing to acknowledge this real possibility. We still don't know how the FFA will react. We've had a hint that they've already started lobbying behind the scenes to quash the whole idea. If it ends up being a battle between the FFA and what are really a bunch of ex-NSL clubs, and the FFA don't concede any ground, then you'd have to think it could get very ugly.

+x+x+xI've not weighed in on this discussion too much, what i will say is that this is a direct result of inaction by the FFA. Had they spent the time to work out how they could make a national second division work instead of just saying it wont work the NPL clubs would not have been forced into this move. The FFA now must open the door to the proposal. Let the clubs come to them with their plan of how they will make this work before presenting it to the other stakeholders in the A league so between them they will be able to work out how they will manage promotion and relegation. Personally i would like to see it be done via a playoff system between the winner of league two and the A league if the league two club meets certain requirements regarding their ability to supply suitable facilities etc. I acknowledge there is a very real chance this may damage the game but there is an equally good chance should they get this right the game in australia may be ready to take off to a new level. Agree. Good post. Just the last line though, "I acknowledge there is a very real chance this may damage the game"Can you pls be explicit... i personally completely disagree with this statement, so it would be interesting to hear opposing views on specifically " how" a Second Divison will damage the game. What i mean is that if this possible second division goes the way of the NSL with clubs being unable to meet their financial obligations and therefore having to drop out of the competition people will view it as we did in the dying days of the NSL, basically a farce. I loved the game then and i love the game now. All i want to see is the game continue to grow This is a possibility. A bunch of ex-NSL clubs are bringing the fight up to the FFA, who may or may not support the idea (I'm talking in-principle support). Without that, their ability to raise revenue might become restricted (potential sponsors not wishing to deal with a rebel group, government not wishing to deal with a rebel group, broadcasters not wishing to deal with a rebel group, etc) And you end up with the real possibility of an NSL Mk II.

Lowy and Gallop arent as bulletproof as you think they are. If they can't justify why 99% of the football establishment is excluded, then theyll cop it sweet over a barrel, after we get banned by FIFA. FFA have nothing. Nada. Unless you know something the rest of us dont. This shitstorm permeating all levels of the game is already NSL mark II. Keep up.

Without a doubt, it will be a competitor if the FFA don't bring it into the fold, including at some point pro/rel. Without that carrot, the NPLA teams will be gunning for the number one position within the football heirarchy, and without the impediments that FFA put in place for the A League teams, they'll certainly achieve that.

+xWill the NPL clubs stick to a Winter season? that's a really good question. it will be interesting to see what path they take it down.. they must be thinking about a 2nd and 3rd tier on top of state leagues: considering the number of clubs involved. maybe there will be summer in the top leagues and winter below.

https://audioboom.com/posts/5705588-tony-ising-interview-npl-breakawayThis is my opinion as well Fury represent less than 3% of the players in Townsville. There are players in local clubs that are as good as any in the Fury academy yet they get no opportunity to play for state. No one goes to Fury games. So it's not fair that they ambush the future of the game. We need to include every club in the game proportional to their membership. And all players elite or not

I don't think Townsville should get a team anyway. I don't like that their guy has become a mouthpiece for the new group. At one point he has said a NorthernAustralia (combining Cairns, Towns and Darwin) would be something he supported.

Townsville could field a good team but not with fury people and I agree not that guy. I think true clubs ie SMH and many more should get promotion. Just give us a chance to form a real club as well, let us succeed on merit and select on ability. If the cowboys can do it in the NRL we can do it too. If you want to help provide us with a system that stops manipulation and dictatorship and encourages ability and results.

At registration put it to a vote if you want the fury to represent us yes or no. The answer will be 5700 no 250 yes. It's that simple . The got 300 to sight a partition to keep the fury in the NPL. Absolutely pitiful

I still don't think we are close to an open pyramid.
I hope this league happens then clubs from and perhaps new clubs could make up a 2nd division that is part of the A-League.
Much like aushorts idea, and retain this APL as an eventual 3rd division with no promotion up.
We need an A-League criteria. AFC should enforce a minumim standard IMO on the FFA. Also an eventual criteria for this proposed league. Any future breakup of the league will still hurt some clubs who feel betrayed when they are not selected by the FFA or independent A-League.

Yeh and everyone else's boy that's why they can't get anyone to a game. Nothing more pathetic than a football game with no one there. crowds of 20 makes a great atmosphere at a game. Rahbi talking about hard decisions can't let a coach go after 2 years without a win.haha real leadership.Everone in Townsville hates the fury. If you think I'm wrong put it to a vote.

I've no idea of the football landscape in townsville so cant comment. I just wanted you to clarify your interest in it so people understood. Did you hate Fury prior to them not selecting your boy? 38 seconds of research tells me they have only recently appointed a new coach: Fury Technical StaffTechnical Director : Bill MitchellBill Mitchell was formerly regional development officer with North Queensland football prior to a recent two-year stint at Technical Director of the Wide Bay region. Bill’s role as Technical Director includes mentoring players and coaches, giving strategic, tactical and technical guidance, and managing talent programs. He also leads the club’s scouting network and works closely with the Head Coach of the NPL team, Paul Roncato. Head Coach, NPL Men : Paul Roncato Paul Roncato was appointed to the role of Head Coach of the NPL Men's team in February 2017, 10 days out from the start of the 2017 season. A C-licensed coach, Roncato has played the game for more than 40 years and started coaching junior teams at 15 years of age. He was assistant coach for an U-16 Queensland tour to Germany and he has also played for North Queensland regional and Queensland state teams. Paul has played with Burdekin, Wulguru and Razorbacks clubs, and still continues to play. He is well-known within the local football fraternity and has worked alongside the State Technical Director, David Abela.
