This is extra revenue that the FFA and clubs never had. Gets the member fed clubs involved. Connects the grassroots with the top tier.

And people still doubt the cup..

Typical Wanderers fans. Talk shit non-stop about Sydney FC and when they get called out on their own circumstances, have a sook and start throwing out excuses.

As has been said, it was not a bad crowd, but it is disappointing compared to what would have been expected based on the claims of Wanderers fans regarding capacity constraints at Pirtek and how that would all change. If you can't hack being called out on it, then perhaps reserve judgement and hold your opinion back when you start rabbiting on about how a 15,000+ crowd for Sydney is disappointing without consideration of the factors which may also have an impact on us.

On a side note, I find it funny that any families would be keen on the Wanderers. Between some of the lovely lads in the RBB who look to punch on at every opportunity, the constant marine safety displays, and role models like Bulut and Santalab for the youngin's to look up to, it really comes across as such a family-friendly club. Just get used to turning a blind eye and looking the other way I guess eh?

It actually is on a Saturday night. Not sure where Davo got Sunday from.

I agree, the Victory game is not the one to be drawing comparisons from.

Ah sorry I was looking at the final Victory fixture which is on the Sunday 5th of March at 7pm.

That's still not a like for like comparison FFS. Victory is our biggest match outside of the derby. I will tell you one thing historically speaking this SHOULD be one of your lowest drawing matches against Victory because normally this match is played on a Saturday night. Fair comment you think.

Actually Sydney will be playing at 7pm on Sunday against Victory in a few weeks time so we'll soon find out.

I like it how now the excuse is "but but sydney fc have had 10 years to get it right and should be miles in front." Fact of the matter is that WSW supporters love to tell us how big they are as a supporter group and that if they were playing in a bigger stadium they would be smashing Syd FC, but really the only place they are beating Sydney FC is in memberships and by the looks of it for pets and toddlers. Well done WSW hope you get your memberships past 20k soon and you can claim to have more pets and kids involved..

Rather than deflecting take a look and ask yourselves "shit why aren't our members turning up" rather than having a shot at Syd FC. We managed to once again get a larger number where it counts, on the sidelines. You need the derby just as much as we do to get those really large numbers.

Some of the comments on here are truly laughable especially from SFC supporters ffs. You have had 10 years to get your shit together, your club membership should be miles in front of ours, it isn't, so shut the f... up.

It's only 3 rounds in the season you can't make any serious comparisons in crowd numbers until you have at least played everyone at home at least once. You then you need to make comparisons to the various timeslots your playing. Will Sydney FC play a team on Sunday 7pm with school the next day. Then we can compare a crowd of 13.5k vs maybe 8-10k. The FFA knows it would be a disaster putting SFC at that time slot. It would be too embarrassing for them. Make like to like comparisons or just shut up would be the better response.

No chance. It is their home for the next 3 YEARS!! And their members all voted for it as well, so they can't use the excuse "but but its at an afl oval and the ffa fucked us over whinge whinge whinge..."

Bad crowd figure. Very bad when u consider the crap they go on about being so large if their stadium wasn't capped they's be "Huuuuge"

Exactly. Whats the historical Ave for a Sunday night game with school the next day, could anybody pop that up?

Also factor in the Wanderers have moved about 20-30mins further away from the majority of its fan base and you have your answer to why it was 13.3k.

Its merely a response to the claims over the last few years that the only reason Sydney get higher attendances is because the Wanderers couldn't all fit into Pirtek. All the talk was about how now you'll be able to regulary pull 20k to games.

That, quite frankly, has been shown to be bullshit. You just don't have as many real fans as you make out.

I doubt they will get more than 20k all.season even in their new ground unless its a finals match. I think these membership.tallies have been giving some.people big heads out at western sydney. Unfortunatley it seems like many of those memberships are for toddlers or pets. Good to know the truth is coming out hahaha

Meanwhile poor "lil" sydney fc who managed to stay out of finals last year and playing the smallest club in the league managed to get 2k more last weekend.

About 65% of Wanderers members are families.  The number of members where the husband was attending but the spouse was staying home with the kids because of school the next day was significant and was mentioned in many posts on the WSF forum before the game.  For a League that wants to sell itself to families a 7pm start on a Sunday in a school week is stupid scheduling.  It will be interesting to see if the TV ratings over the season show the time slot to be good for ratings.

The expectation of "large" numbers at games at Spotless is misplaced.  Capacity is only 3k greater than Pirtek and about 1k of that has been kept for growing corporate support.

As a matter of interest Wanderers membership last season of 18,390 included 64.8% families, 33% females, 67% males and 49.2% of members were registered participants in club football in the local football associations across Western Sydney.

Let's be honest, the only club that can pat themselves on the back for both membership and attendance is Victory. Plenty of BS is spread around by other supporters but until anyone gets to Victory's levels they're just hollow words!

People slamming both the City crowd (worst Melbourne weather we've had in six months) and WSW (Sunday night) after one home game is hilarious.

Take a breath. Relax. Both sides have another home game this weekend where we will get a better test.

The city crowd was totally understandable and i made my points as to why before.

Wanderers figure is just funny because of how often we get berated for our crowds and the old excuse of their stamium being too small.otherwise would get 30k+ anywhere else when in reality it seems like they are barely or if not at the same level.as fc for support.

It is disappointing that WSW got less than their membership tally on their first nonderby home match. Even more so that their new home ground has a larger capacity and they were screaming for a bigger stadium due to demand. Hopefully next home game they get more than 20k to justify expanding parra and for the sake of the A-League

Cant believe that depite a 9 milion wage bill, cahill et all, previous weeks hype and derby win, population, stadium facilties, transport links, there was only 1k difference between city and ccm crowds. ASTONISHING. Seems to suggest that if other clubs from smaller cities could make a decent and competitive go at joining the  aleague , esp Canberra, woolongong, Geelong and perhaps Brisbane 2nd team.

Argh some arent grasping are they...

4 games being played effectively at home in 12 days will no doubt have an effect on crowd numbers. Then u add the abyssmal weather all day and the fact that perth are the smallest draw card. They were always going to get a shocking crowd on friday. The fact people thought they would get 10k+ is quite laughable. People and especially families cant commit to that much football in such a small space of time. People will always be forced to choose which game to miss and if u were in that situation which game do u think you would miss?

Perth was the obvious choice to skip with all factors considered.

That game was not indicative of anything other than the ffa shouldnt be awarding so many games.in the one city for teams in a row. The ffa cup semi was out of their control i guess.

Fact is, despite Wanderers' higher membership numbers, both Sydney clubs are about neck and neck.

Seems there are a lot of Wanderers 'fans' that only turn up to games like the one at ANZ, probably bought a shirt in the inaugural season and have probably only been to 3 or 4 games since.

There is no excuse besides the late sunday start for a low crowd like that.

Just got back from the game and live in Liverpool.

If i had kids and live Southwest further than Liverpool i am getting back to the area 11.30pm, with kids this is a disaster.

Lets wait till wanderers have a game on Saturday night/day or even Sunday day before we throw out lines like Sydney is neck and neck with Wanderers lmfao.

My understanding is that virtually from day one SFC had a deal with SFS to play all home games there unless the SFS was unavailable for some reason. It looks like the parties to that agreement cannot see any reason to terminate it.
In my opinion-
Fucking horrible idea anyway. I'm from up North and it would take any fans up here wayyyyyy longer to get to any of those grounds than SFS by train. Belmore is not up to scratch, Kogarah is a fucking oval and miles from the city so no thanks.

Leichardt oval has some merit as a venue for Cup games and our low-key matches, but there are some issues.
It really is a gorgeous ground for afternoon matches with the hill on the Eastern side for the families and the Western grandstand is nice though could use some refurb. The amenities and food/beverage facilities are truly horrible though, would struggle to handle any more than 10k tbh. It's also not great for public transport though theres a decent bus service, and horrible for parking, and road links in and out are pretty poor. There's also not many pubs nearby though many good restaurants are there.

If Allianz does get a reno I definitely would be happy to play out of Leichardt given the options whilst the works happen, but it does have some proper drawbacks.

Its not a matter of going in then out
