+x+xHe's been excellent. Ange needs to talk to our 3 good left backs and convert one to right back. Meredith could enter the squad in an emergency. He's going to end up in the championship hopefully. think Goodwin iirc has played RB couple times for Adelaide. could be wrong. he's punched a few goals in from that angle iirc He never played RB but he did play a reasonable bit on the RW, seeing Cirio and Goodwin both could not play LW. He always seemed a better player at LW than RW. Of course he ended last season at LB as Elrich was injured and Kamau got his chance to start at RW.

I'm sure this must have been posted in here before but I don't remember it so re-posting just incase it wasn't, as it's super-interesting. Gethin Jones was called up to the Olyroos and denied the call-up, however now appears open to switching if he was approached by the Socceroos before Wales. Article snippet: Jones has been nurtured in an Everton academy that has a habit of turning out professional footballers. Out of contract in the summer, he’s looking to impress with Paul Heckingbottom’s side before assessing his options. But there’s another dilemma on the horizon. Born in Australia, he lived in Perth until he was three before returning with his family to Wales. The Wales U21 skipper’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed Down Under, however, and he’s already been approached to represent the Socceroos’ U23s. “Australia contacted Everton two or three months back asking for me to play for their U23s but I didn’t want to make any decisions then,” he said. “I feel more Welsh than Australian. I’ve been Wales captain from the U16s to the U21s so if the first team called I’d definitely go for that. “But it depends now. If Australia came in before Wales you never know, it’s something I’d have to seriously think about.” http://www.theleaguepaper.com/featured/7372/barnsley-debut-gives-moment-to-saviour-for-tykes-loan-signing-gethin-jones/

Gethin Jones's background really does make him sound Welsh to me. Can't begrudge him playing for them.
We've won our fair share of dual-nationality players in recent years, they just turned out to be shit or crocked. Verbeek alone got commitments from Inman, Lowry, Williams and Herd, who at the time all could've been lost to other nations and all could've turned out to be EPL quality players.
It's our bad luck they didn't.

Inman and Beadling on the bench. No Herd. Fans asking about Burgess who is on the Roos camp. O'Neill also in camp.
Just looking at these guys. Inman:NUFC, Herd:Villa, Burgess: Fulham, Beadling: Sunderland, O'Neill: Burnley. Some are still owned by big parent clubs. Unfortunately the all too familiar narrative of our players not breaking through. It does happen to so many though the Australian ratio is quite high.

Lol I know you are baiting me but maybe do some research before you make these comments. Fellow Australian James Meredith has been included in the League One team of the season, having featured in 35 of Bradford's 39 league games in their push for promotion to the Championship next season. http://www.socceroos.com.au/article/caltex-socceroos-named-in-english-football-league-teams-of-the-season/13ef4b88k82oa17ty2jiwp97ol

You're better than making those kind of horrible calls. We can leave his family out of it (especially when it's that painful). And a man's dignity and manhood aren't measured by sex or relationship status.

Smith ready to leave EPL for game time Socceroos tyro Brad Smith doesn't want to leave English Premier League home Bournemouth but is ready to drop down a division for crucial game time. The 22-year-old left back turned heads when he moved from giants Liverpool to the up-and-coming Premier League club for $10 million in the off season. The fee was a surprising one from a club of Bournemouth's relative stature for an unproven, albeit impressively talented defender. The south coast club are yet to see a return on their investment given Smith has made just five appearances in the league this season. But they see the value in their young Australian and both club and player are willing to be patient. "When you go to a new team you have to adjust that team plays. I'm not getting as much football as I'd like," he said. "I would have played more at Bournemouth than I would at Liverpool anyway. "It's gone alright. Next year I think will be a big season for me. (I need to) get some more game time, get a big chance." Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou persisted with Smith in the current squad despite him falling foul of his 'form and fitness' mantra. With a Confederations Cup and, hopefully, a World Cup on the horizon, Smith knows he can't rely on his coach's generosity to continue far into the distance. "For now, I'll stay at Bournemouth. I'm learning under Eddie Howe and it's going really well besides game time. I'm improving," he said. "We spoke about (a loan) this season and he said 'definitely not'. He said 'you're part of the future' and he wants me to grow under him and learn. "We'll reassess at the start of next season. Hopefully I'll have a good pre-season after the Confeds Cup and then get a big chance ... maybe a loan move if that's what he wants me to do. "Either way I'll be playing and if not I'll go to the Championship and get game time there." Smith said if he did needed to move to a second-tier club, he would be in good company, given fellow Socceroos Mile Jedinak, Massimo Luongo, Bailey Wright and Aaron Mooy all ply their trade there. "There's a few of them now, it'd be good to play against them," he laughed. http://wwos.nine.com.au/2017/03/27/03/34/smith-ready-to-leave-epl-for-game-time

lesson to be learnt from every player that's been led on from their coach. leave. leave as soon as possible. look at langerak. of course howe wants smith to stay. he needs the back up. it's almost a full season gone and smith has only got a look in when they were desperate. howe is just using smith and probably couldnt give a shit if he sat on the bench for 3 years.

bit annoying to see most plays assuming they are going to the confeds cup what 3 or 4 months out? We are on the brink of missing out on the world cup...? Maybe our boys just have one eye on the confeds cup?

No Luongo tonight. He had the knock and that long journey back.
Ange commented on Milligan doing well as Luongo had picked up a know. Definitely sounded like Luongo was going to start.

+xSmith shoulda made that decision 12 months ago he did. when he left liverpool. he made the right move at the time. you would think a near record club fee for you would indicate that they want to play you.

Jurman, Mrcela and Degenek all played. Jamieson's starting now. 1-0 up against Malmo.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.
