+x+xDavid has been the voice of reason on many things as of late but he is too quickly painted with the brush of most minor parties i.e. loony, whacko, Hanson-esque. -PB Like believing that wind turbines cause infrasound sickness? Has it been proven that infrasound sickness isn't real? -PB

+x+x+x+x+x[quote]I still don't get why they're wasting so much time on it. They were elected to "fix the economy/budget" yet they've done fuck all since Mal took over. -PB The senate is too obstructionist to pass any significant budget reforms. These minor parties and individual senators mandates are usually linked to spending more money (eg veteran affairs, farmers, pensioners) rather than any funding cuts, and populist Senators like Lambie, One Nation and Xenophon know that their political lives rely on doing as little damage to the electorate as possible. Having a convoluted senate is wonderful if you're the Labor party and your funding model is debt, it's always bad for the long term budget though. Considering the economy has gone down the toilet since the Libs took power in 2013, it seems that debt is the domain of the current government The economy went to the toilet from the 2008 GFC and onwards, not with the liberals getting into power. So its neither party's fault? No I wouldn't say that at all. It's both their fault at least in part. If they actually worked together and passed budgetary saving measures in response to the emergency, then both sides can put their hand on heart and blame the GFC. Since that is not the case, then they have to accept responsibility together and conjointly.

I did some Googling and yeah doesn't seem like anything is really confirmed. It isn't as extreme as chemtrails but it's definitely on the path to tinfoil. -PB

So IT companies are mad about the 457 scrapping because they rely heavily on foreign workers? So what's the point of young Aussies doing IT degrees here then? -PB

Love the backlash on social media where small business owners absolutely tear Aussie workers a new one.
All sorts of harsh smack downs being thrown around with stuff like lazy, unreliable, demanding etc.
Whilst the right winger in me says this is a good move to give people who can't find a job a better crack, you have to feel that businesses will miss out because of the much greater work ethic some foreign workers have.
I recognise some companies exploit the system for sure (cough call centres cough).

I actually applaud the announcement today about de-centralization of government departments etc where applicable. Be interesting to see if it actually happens though. -PB

With changes to 457s & citizenship test, it seems like Turnbull is trying to win back the xenophobes lost to One Nation

If that makes me xenophobic so be it. But then again it doesn't appear to be removing 457 from IT/Engineering/Accounting sectors, so most people are affected by it won't be helped. Sums up the Turnbull government really - superficial changes with no real impact.

Might affect 7/11s and Taxis I spose. I agree with the changes to Citizenship RE: convicted of violent crimes or gang affiliations. How things like social testing and so forth is determined and adjudicated remains to be seen. -PB

Know a few contractors who are screwed because their labourers all want $35/hr to lean on a shovel and complain about how hard life is.

It's sad that no one reported the owners previously so they could be criminally prosecuted

I got an issue with criminally charging owners of a business. Like their house and castle.
If they said I wasn't welcome there then I wouldn't go there and it is their loss from a business perspective. End of the day, I don't agree with it but believe its their right.
They shouldn't be forced.

What I was more pointing out is that this is a small article yet if you had a no muslims policy it would be national news and ANTIFA would probably punch out your mum.

Ha ha ha. This whole Yassmin thing is great. The 'Right" (Hanson, Bolt, Christensen et al) are having conniptions over this Yassmin lady and her ANZAC day comments and the huge blowback about their hypocrisy over their support for 18C on twitter and facebook is just comic gold. http://junkee.com/anzac-day-hypocrisy-conservatives/103169?utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign=Apr%202017%20-%20Traffic&utm_medium=cm

+xI just don't see why people care about her so much? She's just another TV type personality? -PB Because she represents everything these people are afraid of or hate. She's a woman, she's outspoken, she's brown and worst of all she's, shock horror, a moslem George Christensen suggested she 'self deport' herself. Basically to 'go back to where you came from'.

Only speaking about wet T-shirt comps yesterday and I was saying Darwin would be about the only place they'd still have them and then lo and behold.
