+x+xSo we are nearly half way through January....but no word on anyone being brought in ....time is slipping ....I fear we will muddle through till the end and come about where we are now in the league . Not a good way to appease fans. We have been waiting for some progress for quite a while now. If I wanted to support a perennial near bottom dweller I could just buy a yellow and blue shirt . I agree but what can a club do?
It’s still capped at 23 players so can’t just sign players unless others leave.
They can’t even loan out over age players to make room eg Bowles, Pepper.
They can’t even pay a contract out without it counting towards the cap.
For players under contract they can’t even pay a transfer fee to get them released.
The Lowy model is “wait until next season” and the message to supporters is “don’t worry about Roar, just support the competition generally, like they do in the Big Bash” The club could have ensured it had back-up plans and options available when it signs up a rookie gaffer who has enlisted low grade players from a skill-less football culture. That's what the club could have sensibly done.
In a resort somewhere

+xVictory have dumped Kurz after their abysmal start, confirm my view that he is a very ordinary coach. Whoever is in charge of selecting our coaches, needs to be fired immediately. The fact that Robbie F and Kurz were on the final shortlist is pathetic. Kurz wasn’t on the final short list.

+xDon't know if they signed anyone but they certainly tried hard. The Bakries, Fowler, Pourre need to look at who they’re tried and failed to sign - Zhullo, Brattan, Troisi, Brillante, Rojas are all rumoured for have been pitched too over the last year and we’ve not signed anyone close to their quality. Why?
Brown and McDonald are not exactly equivalent Quality signings either so unless they’re happy with mid table (I’m growing suspicious the Bakries want to stay out of the ACL and are investing accordingly) they need to lift their retention and recruitment

It all looks a bit gloomy. If RF thought he needed certain players, surely he would get them and move excess baggage to make room.As MV are doing.

+xWe have McGing,Neville and Hingert for RB and IP ,OT and CP (injured ) for LB . So CB is not as outrageous as people might think. Then we have GM and JI. Clearly we have excess dead weight. But you don’t fix dead weight by signing dead weight

+xI can't see Roar signing Brown. If they spend any money this transfer window why would they spend it on a second (or third) choice left back. It would be .... how to put it .... a dumb f’kin act right

+xCorey Brown has been released. CCM, Jets, or Roar I think. No we don't want or need him. Was an up and coming when he was younger but thats behind him now and I fear he'll just be another Bowells, Ingham, McGing. Why add to that below par list.

CCM have no money, so Jets? Thought Jets had no money either? That’s what I thought. But after sacking Ernie they said new money would be available and that new players would arrive in Jan

+x+x+x+x+x+xI would not be surprised if Rudan uses gamesmanship to leave him out for a couple of weeks so he loses some fitness and is not as great a threat for whoever gets him. Rudan is an absolute snake so yeah, he’s do that just for the sport. To play devils advocate, why should an opposition do anything to help a rival club? In a proper league WU would receive a fair transfer fee and there would be no complications. It would barely be a talking point. That's what transfer windows are all about. They picked him up on a free and aren't playing the guy. Many teams in "proper leagues" will mutually terminate contracts of players that aren't in the coach's plans and allow them to move on. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but the recent exodus of staff at WU would seem to suggest that Rudan might not be the easiest person to work with. I would agree with that and with all the exodus One wonders is there something unsavoury happening at the club, Rudan seemed to do well at Phoenix but Ufuk Talay had totally trumped him. so maybe Rudan is not having the dream season he expected and is not dealing with it too well. In any case I'm off him and hope he never comes to Brisbane. Now that Muscats gone, we need a new coach to dislike? I reckon Rudan is part of the problem in relation to attracting fans. There is nothing likeable about the guy. He pulled a snake move getting the job and was completely dishonest about it. He has an extra $400k in the cap to play with but hasn't been able to create a dominant side. Many people in Melbourne were excited to see Pasquali back in the HAL but that hasn't really happened. There is the whole Mel McLaughlin USB stick thing the people haven't forgotten about. On top of all that he seemed to be using fake social media accounts to defend his move away from the Nix like a petulant teenager. The guy would be difficult for fans to embrace. Rudan doesn't seem to have a lot of people on his side.

That's what transfer windows are all about. to stop a player who doesnt want to be there from causing trouble in the dressing room, to let other players (that you may be looking to sign) know that the management will look after them if things dont work out. to make it easier to get other clubs to do the same thing for players that you are trying to sign. if i was Macca and wanted to get out but Rudan was being a dick about it then i would start talking to the media, just putting things out there saying how hard Rudan is to work under. how it is the senior players in the team that are making decision on the field, how youth gets frozen out. Or just start talking to all your agent mates getting Rudan black listed by agents. he seems like a huge dick which is unsustainable in a closed league like the a-league. players and agents talk.

+xSo has McDonald actually been signed? Given the flurry of news I thought he would be with the team already. Nope. Rumour is that negotiations have slowed down on this one as the lack of transfer system makes these deals very difficult to get over the line.
