It's probably not a popular opinion as he's well loved, but Hingert for me was the weakest link in a number of matches last season and would be a priority to replace. Both positionally and with particular regard to his failure to consistently stop crosses I see him as a big risk now. Would pay to be proven wrong of course. Corey not entirely consistent but with some excellent performances that hint his potential is still a ways away.

On the point that nobody aside from Maclaren has been scoring: I've often felt that our modus operandi as a side under Aloisi is that we have a poacher with a singular goal of putting the ball in the net and a team tasked with creating chances for that striker. Not much flexibility at all. I personally prefer players like Keogh and Berisha who will endeavour to fall into the ranks and help relieve pressure in those difficult periods, something which Jamie never did so I'm curious to see if a change of personnel up front will alter the mentality of the team by making us...more of a team. Expansive football could be easier if our striker can perform a more expansive role, because Jamie to me was a counter-attacking forward in a possession based team and it showed in how our best game this season (Melbourne City) was the only one we entered with an intelligently devised defensive mindset.

Hopefully Oar sorts himself out next season. Having watched him in the Eredivisie there's just no doubting his quality and ethic, but his decision making has been unfathomably poor at times. Oddly enough I thought he played excellently as a left back (aside from one cataclysmic event).

@ Glazier

Maclaren was a one-dimensional poacher and you got what you saw with him. The team would have benefitted with a big striking partner for him like Keogh - but our entire game plan was to get the ball to Maccers for a tap in. Effective but limited.

This is JAs third preseason but the first without any transfer restrictions due to off field dramas (hopefully) so let's see what he can deliver next season. And the first pre-season friendly is only a little over a month away 👍

This year Roars NPL side is the youngest in years, caused by regular spill of talent under John Aloisi. This years squad has more 16-18 year olds in it than I can remember for a long while.so if you're waiting on a busload of talent you might need to wait another year but the one thing with BRFC is they always seem to get it there. As a coach if a kid asked me which club to join I'd have no hesitation in pointing them at BRFC over every other club. Roar are head and shoulders above every other club in the country for youth development. Melb City are rapidly catching them up but have yet to prove they can transition youth players to first team players like BRFC do

Thats an interesting view, cant agree that the chronological age of the team is much different to previous years but time will tell if you are correct. Lets see how many they keep.

I dont know the exact details on age as I don't work directly with them but over the last 3-4 years the average age has fallen by about 18 months apparently which in Youth terms is an awful lot, John Aloisi is far more aggressive in turfing the kids that don't look like they will be able to make it. His mantra is two years to prove you're good enough for teh A league or you're moved on. QLD is producing a lot of good talent (not enough in my opinion for a playing base of 76,000 plus another 10,000+ .playing in the Christian schools league) and why the region needs another A League team urgently

That's unfortunate the typical crowd pullers (Victory, Sydney) will only visit once..

Last 3 seasons, Melbourne City and Perth have been Roars highest attendance in the regular season. I guess it really depends on what days the games are played on.

I met with one of the junior coaches from Roar last night (he was at our club on business so nothing special towards me personally), he seems to think Dagastino, Ingham, Calletti, O'Toole and Rowles will be a playing part of the first team squad next season plus possibly one more; that is over 20% of BRFC's first team squad next next season drawn from the youth ranks. The difference with BRFC is these guys get game time every season unlike most other franchises. I tried to draw him on teh quality of this season NYL squad but he said nothing, they're currently evaluating them all looking for 6 that will train with the first team and form the ACL squad of 29

Not what you're looking for but there's supposedly a new strength and fitness coach coming in, supposedly from england with EPL experience. BRFC are stacking up the talent behind the scenes with with some good coaching appointment, Drew Sherman iheads up the Technical Dept and is one of the most sought after young coaches in the world and he's now working for BRFC and spreading the knowledge within Football Queensland. big tick for BRFC for doing this, its changing perceptions of them being an aloof club to one that is helping QLD football

I think you need to change your source of information.
O'toole and Rowles where signed on professional contracts in May 2016 nothing to do with Roar youth, Calletti came straight from the COE as did Rowles nothing to do with Roar youth, Dagostino was also at COE and signed a professional contract from May 2016.
Ingham yes Roar youth.
Now you do know the reason they are having to replace the strength and conditioning coach dont you?

Every player under 21 no matter their origin has everything to do with BRFC's youth set up. If you don't understand that you need to spend more time in the system. I've been working in youth football for 40 years first in Victoria and now QLD and until academies are fully functioning all A league clubs will bring talent in aged 16-19 typically, few go on and develop a professional career unfortunatley.

The strength and conditioning position is being replaced for obvious reasons I thought? the best strength and conditioning coaches in Australia are working full time in AFL, NRL, and Olympic sports or the AIS, not part-time with a business on the side. The new person coming in looks really good, if he can get a visa of course

I have no interest in your perceived grandiose coaching world however i am interested in how Rowles, Calletti and O.toole "have everything to do with the BRFC,s youth set up" when they were all signed as 1st team professionals and not youth players?
What was the obvious reason the strength and conditioning coach left?

Since the Ange era we always had the discussion of playing with back 3. I am thinking now would be a good time.

We have devere, north and Pappas.
Hinget and brown as your two wing backs. Even oar.
You really need a busy midfield so McKay/caletti and kristensen.
We now have oar, fbk and Holman who can play wide or narrow.
Then a striker.

With Ange determined to do a 343. It's now the new in formation and unlike the Australian team we have the players at an aleague level to do it.

@ lolitsbigmic

I've been thinking the same thing myself. JA is well advanced on the theory of coaching and a back three is certainly the latest evolution, I'm pretty sure he's got ambitions overseas as well so may well dabble in change.

One thing seems certain the 433 is dead under him at Roar.

Another clue may be Oars trial at LB late in the season, while many think he's a waste at LB he certainly wouldn't be at LWB.

With only three starting CBs plus Bowles it may well be that he needs to sign another one in the winter which would be a big clue if he does

Apparently Moore's planned trip to South America for scouting purposes got pulled and he didn't go. Not sure if that makes any difference, without local connections that must be a tough place to scout and we should be looking at Spain, UK and Holland where they guys have contacts.

Modest update from the club today on Logan:

Wednesday, 21 June 2017 -

Progress continues at the Logan Metro Sports Complex where Logan City Council are building a new 'home of football' which will house the new Brisbane Roar Training Centre.

Although weather events over the past few months have set back some minor works, the main sections of the outer Complex build have been continuing.
The premier field which will be used by the Brisbane Roar Hyundai A-League side has been stolonised.
Stolonising is done by a special planting machine which chops mature turf into stolons and plants plugs into the ground.

Stolons are the runners across the ground from which you get roots. This method is used to create a better and deeper root establishment and therefore healthier field.

http://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Brisbane_Roar/4e/ca/logan-metro-07_1rl0ruwaw7etk1mge06c8vyjnn.jpg?t=-918419004

Civil works on the site are nearing completion, with roadways around the new fields and buildings areas complete.

Field lighting will commence shortly as Logan City Council begin works on the outer perimeter of the fields.

Locations for changerooms and administrative buildings are leveled and final surveying is being complete before building works on the change room will commence as soon as the site is dry enough to progress concrete pours on the footings.

Brisbane Roar hope to start training and working out of the complex from January 2018.

We didn't see much of Rowles last season (2 sub appearances) but he was okay in his youth team outings. With Avraam signing he was in competition for a starting spot with him, North, DeVere and Bowles which is a tough ask so it's actually good to see he's going to a club that should give him a real starting opportunity.

As Clivesundies points out there's normally a logic and a replacement behind things like this as Aloisi is pretty meticulous in his player plans.

I talked with Devante Clut ahead of his departure to jets as he used to do regular training with one of our junior sides; he was very popular with the fans and the loss felt quite heavily. He described the decision to let him go as a close run thing and went on to say he "just lost the vote 1-2" where the two Aloisis and Moore vote on player decisions. He was very diplomatic in not saying who voted against him lol.

Let's hope Rowles is another Jai Ingham and gets game time.

@ Barca4life We didn't see much of Rowles last season (2 sub appearances) but he was okay in his youth team outings.

That's fair enough, any way you have some good youngsters in you're club.

Oar gone:http://www.brisbaneroar.com.au/article/transfer-news-tommy-oar-departs-brisbane/4o2ev8yoga1m1kmd2gsmagsawApparently Moore's planned trip to South America for scouting purposes got pulled and he didn't go. Not sure if that makes any difference, without local connections that must be a tough place to scout and we should be looking at Spain, UK and Holland where they guys have contacts.

Well that's disappointing.

I'm sure they've got an alternative lined up.

Wonder if Ross is scouting now that the Confeds are done?

Surprised your club let Kye Rowles go, a young left sided defender.

When he played he looked out of his depth. Not surprised we'd let him go and promote another youth player.
