If Darwin lost 6-0 to Brisbane Strikers, I shudder to think what the score against SFC is going to be like. It'll be nice to see Darwin Football Stadium in action though.

Would imagine it'd be a fairly low intensity match from the Sydney side of things - they may go hard for the first 30 minutes, get a few goals and then put the cue in the rack and rest a few bodies/blood some youngsters.

I'm hoping they play the youngsters from the start tbh. They've got a whole team of youth players playing NPL who are fit and ready to go and should be up to the task of getting a win.

Bantz FFA Cup clash with Sydney FC could be the making of Darwin Rovers NOT only will Darwin Rovers’ FFA Cup clash against Sydney FC be the highlight of the players careers, but Jimmy Culligan says the occasion could secure the future of their young club. In a true David versus Goliath tie the Sky Blues, A-League champions, will travel to Darwin at the end of July to take on a team that was only established in 2014. Culligan, a full time plumber but also the, “head coach, president and the boys say I drive the bus as well,” is hoping his club reaps the benefits of hosting the Sky Blues. “We’re hoping that we can benefit properly from this and that it will secure the future of the club, because as you know football is an expensive sport to play and we rely heavily on our sponsors,” Culligan said. “It’s always a bit of struggle, especially as we’ve only been in existence for two years now. If we could benefit from filling the stadium it would be fantastic, it would secure our future and it would mean we could grow into a bigger club and develop juniors. “We do things the right way. There’s a lot of dodgy characters in the football world unfortunately, but we’ve always operated in a good way and we’re trying to do things properly, nothing hidden. It’s been really a great journey so far.” While Culligan admits he was hoping for an easier draw, he says the players are excited to be playing against Australia’s best. And they’re not one bit concerned that Sydney’s preparation for the game will come in the form of a high-profile friendly against English Premier League giants Arsenal. “They’re going to get hammered by Arsenal next, so that’s good. I hope that dents their confidence,” Culligan said. “But it is just a bit surreal that they’re playing Liverpool, Arsenal then us.” It’s Darwin’s second appearance in the FFA Cup after they were beaten 6-0 by Brisbane Strikers in last season’s competition. For that game the players famously arrived at Darwin Football Stadium in a stretch hummer (the club captain owns a limousine business), so how will they top that this time? “We’re going to arrive in a helicopter this season,” Culligan joked. “I’m sure Simon will bring us in the limousine again. Why not?” http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/football/ffa-cup-clash-with-sydney-fc-could-be-the-making-of-darwin-rovers/news-story/6ffc13df7f78175270ef47b1c3e2a6df

It's certainly a deliberate ploy by foxsports to showcase South Melbourne in the opening night. Factor in there is no other games in Victoria that night or Victorian teams playing interstate too. They are obviously trying to put the feelers out there to see how much interest they generate.

What would be a pass mark for south crowd wise?
I'd wonder what the biggest crowd is all for an all npl clash.

Would have preferred the Power or Roar game instead of Blacktown but that would have meant a Melbourne team in every match which doesn't sound fair either.

Peninsula Power’s historic clash with A-League giants Melbourne City at Dolphin Stadium has been revealed PENINSULA Power will take on Melbourne City in the FFA Cup Round of 32 at Dolphin Stadium on Tuesday August 1 at 7.30pm. Power president Craig Feuerriegel said it would be a “David versus Goliath” battle as the Brisbane Premier League side, captained by Trent McEvoy, took on current FFA Cup holders Melbourne City. But, he said, anything was possible in front of a home crowd. “It’s huge,” Feuerriegel said. “It’s a David versus Goliath battle but the mantra is, ‘we dare to dream’. “We could take down one of the best clubs in Australia (which is owned by English Premier League giants Manchester City) ... we’ll certainly make international news if we do that.” Peninsula Power president Craig Feuerriegel. Picture: Peter Cronin Power’s home ground of AJ Kelly Park did not meet the lighting and broadcasting requirements for the game against the A League heavyweights, so Redcliffe Dolphins agreed to host to keep it on the Peninsula. “It’s good we’ve been able to keep the game in the city of Redcliffe,” Feuerriegel said. “Others have had to go into Brisbane.” Feuerriegel said he “most definitely” expected Melbourne heavyweight strikers Tim Cahill and Bruno Fornaroli to make the trip north for the game. “They treat it very seriously,” Feuerriegel said. McEvoy said he was looking forward to taking on “quality opposition” locally. “We set a goal to make the Round of 32 ... everything from here is a bonus,” McEvoy said. “We’ll certainly be playing without fear.” Redcliffe Dolphins president Bob Jones said he was delighted the Dolphins could provide an appropriate place for the game, with Dolphin Stadium able to hold about 8000 people. A packed Dolphin Stadium for the Brisbane Broncos v Cronulla Sharks game earlier this year. Picture: Peter Cronin “It’s what we always wanted ... a community oval that wasn’t just for rugby league, but for touch football, football,” Jones said. “It’s absolutely fantastic ... it’s not every day you get the calibre of the Melbourne team coming to the Peninsula — it’s certainly a first.” Jones said he hoped the stadium would be packed for the game to give Power the best chance of finishing on top. “The more the merrier,” Jones said. Moreton Bay United, from the NPL Queensland state league, were drawn at home to Broadmeadow Magic, from the Northern New South Wales section of the competition. “I’m 100 per cent happy with the draw,” said Jets’ technical director Adam Piddick,, while on his way back from the Fox Sport studios where he was a guest for the televised draw. “Broadmeadow were a decent side back then (2014) and all teams which get through to this stage are good. Now it’s up to us to turn up and play. “A home tie is important not having to travel a long way with matches on weekends either side of the midweek cup tie. The Jets will take on Broadmeadow Magic FC at Wolter Park, Albany Creek, on Wednesday August 2 at 7.30pm. http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/moreton/peninsula-powers-historic-clash-with-aleague-giants-melbourne-city-at-dolphin-stadium-has-been-revealed/news-story/f2a5e182f20b017eb67c7ab1e70f9e76

Surprised they didn't go with the Darwin x Sydney game for one of the TV games, Maybe too uncompetitive?
Good to see Blacktown don't have to move to Edensor this year

Does anyone else feel that the FFA & Foxtel are rolling out & trialling ‘boutique stadia’ for the FFA Cup? I totally agree with it and think it aligns perfectly with the Cups concept but it’s just interesting to see the slight shift in stadium use. Last year Brisbane Roar played Perth Glory at Ballymore Stadium and got 4,000 or so. This year they also host another A-League side but this time it will be a packed house at Perry Park. Historically Adelaide United have played home ties at Hindmarsh in the FFA cup but this time they should see a high capacity crowd at Marden against the Jets. The only exception is perhaps WSW who could’ve gone to Belmore in lieu of Campbelltown but at the same time, the club is trying to establish themselves in the SW as they hosted ACL matches there. Peninsula Power hosting Melbourne City at Dolphin Stadium will be a great opportunity to see a good crowd in another boutique arena. Blacktown City hosting CCM on their very own turf will be a great opportunity see a buzzing crowd at the 7500 venue. Credit where it’s due, the venue selection has been very good for the round of 32.

Agree wholeheartedly - I have no doubt that the FFA Cup is being used as a trial run for what does and doesn't suit broadcasting requirements for Foxtel.

............................. Football: Newcastle Jets chief executive Lawrie McKinna and Football Mid North Coast want to bring an FFA Cup match to Port Macquarie
Newcastle Jets chief executive Lawrie McKinna believes Port Macquarie can host an FFA Cup match. Photo: Jonathan Carroll. PORT Macquarie could host an FFA Cup match as early as next year. It has been almost 10 years since Port Macquarie hosted an A-League club when the Newcastle Jets hosted Melbourne Heart back in 2010.
But the fruits of Football Mid North Coast's blossoming relationship with the Jets are starting to show, although the fixture is not set in stone.
Jets chief executive Lawrie McKenna said the club wanted to know there is enough interest from the Hastings community before the club commits to the plan. “We want to build the supporter base up there so we will have no hesitation bringing the match up there as long as the field is good,” McKinna said. “We think it would be a great opportunity for the club to play an FFA Cup game up there.” In previous seasons the Jets have hosted home FFA Cup fixtures at Broadmeadow’s Magic Park, but McKinna can see the similarities between that venue and Regional Stadium in Port Macquarie. “We think it would be a great opportunity for the club to play an FFA Cup game up there.”- Newcastle Jets chief executive Lawrie McKinna
“I came up there a few seasons ago to watch a pre-season match against the Victory (in 2008) so I know Regional has all the hills and a nice big grandstand and floodlights. “It’s a realistic possibility. “If we have an opportunity to go up there for a couple of nights we’re spreading the word and it’s great for the junior football players up there and it’s great for the game. “We know we have a lot of fans who travel down for our home games. “It’s about selling our brand. We’re their local team up there so we have to be seen. You can’t be the local team if you’re never seen.” But for the possibility of an FFA Cup game to turn into a reality, the ball is firmly in the local community’s court. It’s about selling our brand. We’re their local team up there so we have to be seen. You can’t be the local team if you’re never seen.- Lawrie McKinna
The first step will be supporting a friendly match between the Jets and two Football Mid North Coast select sides on August 15. “When we come up, should there be a couple of thousand people on a Tuesday night at the stadium we’ll look at that and see it as a great turnout,” he said. “If we turn up and there is 150 people that turn up we’ll wonder if we want to bring another match there because the crowd haven’t supported the friendly. “All you can do is support it. “An FFA Cup game would potentially involve two A-League clubs and you’re going to want to get more than that. “The FFA want to see big crowds at these games of two to four thousand people because it’s a great spectacle for television.”

http://www.walterpless.com.au/2015/march/olympia-down-city-easily-and-reject-enticement-from-apia.htmlAnd on 1 August, they entertain NSW NPL side APIA Leichhardt in the FFA Cup. That will be a tough assignment. Reliable sources inform me that APIA offered Olympia $8,000 to play the game in Sydney, but Olympia quite rightly refused. After all, it is their home game, even if it is to be played at KGV Park. APIA’s home ground is also artificial so the surface will present no problems to either side.
