In 2006 the Socceroos were a squad to be proud of able to be pitted against the best teams in the world and put up a good fight. 11 years later and everyone bar Cahill has hanged up the boots and the Socceroos have been on a decline since the high Guus Hiddink took our national team. For me I would pick Lucas Neil and I know that is a little controversial we had better individuals in the squad but Neil was a good captain/leader and a solid defender and right now our national teams defense is shambolic and we look like we lack leadership My 2nd Choice would be Marco Bresciano because he was decent at free kicks and had creativity which is also lacking in the current socceroos squad.

Mooy and Rogic are decent replacements for Bresciano so can't agree there but yeah a good defender to add maturity and organization in the back line would be my choice as well, probably Moore.
In a resort somewhere

Probably Kewell or Viduka.
Could even argue someone in defence such as a peak Lucas Neill or Craig Moore.

I know people will say the cliche repsonses like Kewell and Viduka but in my opinion it would be Chipperfield.
Just kidding, Kewell or Viduka.

Position wise, a fullback. But to make the big difference, Kewell.

+xSurely Emerton position wise. wasn't he a leckie type winger who got converted to rb by the nt because we lacked options? I think Neill was the only actual rb we had at a high level

If we had Schwarzer in goals we would have topped the group.

This thread is causing me way too much nostalgia...Just trying to single out a player is making me feel emotional... :( To be honest, I almost shed a tear when Kewell retired because he was 'The Man' throughout my childhood. I just remember that I was so confident Australia would win or do well whenever Kewell actually played. He was a game changer.

Good question. Heart say Bresch. Heart and brain say Stan. Brain says whoever would satisfy Ange as a player to then use full backs. Chippers? Would be handy too in case the team ever needed a bus driver. Schwartzer's a good answer but would Ange still pick Ryan? Would I pick Schwartzer over Ryan? Probably. Hmmm.. Alright, if i was boss I'd bring back Stan.

There was 2 high class talent from the Golden generation that separates it from any other generation, Dukes & H, so it would have to be 1 of them.

Lucas Neill or Luke Wilkshire to cover weakness, or, Kewell or Viduka for their brilliance. Probably go Wilkshire because having a right back would make a huge difference to the squad.

I'd take Timmy in his prime. A bit of x factor. Could play as a 10 once upon a time too. Neil probably a close second

Kewell, in the guise of his "young sensation" days at Leeds in the late 90's. As well as the skill, he was incredibly composed and confident for a young player.
