What about maybe Irvine in this role?
He has played there at club level previously - is good defensively and also has good mobility and a big engine.

Wouldn't be against this, but is late to try things I guess.

Throwing it out there, is it time for Rogic to move on from Celtic? Or does his tank, positioning, drifting in and out of games restrict him from playing week in week out at a higher level?
I feel a move would be good for him. Celtic have been brilliant for his thus far, getting his body right, but might be time for a new environment, new league..

Thoughts?

I feel he definitely needs to move on to a more competitive league, Scottish football is bloody awful at the minute and Rogic has definitely reached the level where the league isn't challenging enough for him. You can see it with the NT aswell where he plays like the opposition are the unorganised farmers he plays in the scottish league.

Agree about the SPFL standard. Celtic obviously play comparatively beautiful football, and the likes of Rangers and one or two others are capable of playing well sometimes. Overall though, I didn't realise how ugly it was to watch. I watched some of Motherwell v Aberdeen on Sunday, in the hope of seeing Rose play (he didn't), but my gosh it was some ugly and basic stuff. I actually had to stop watching after 5-10 minutes. It was just push, hack, long ball for the entire time I watched. Most A-League teams would be at least on-par with the majority of Scottish teams. So in that sense, perhaps Rogic should look to move on in either January or at the end of the season. I just wouldn't want him to move in January and risk being caught in limbo at a new club during a WC year.
At least while he's at Celtic he's in the public eye of the UK.

Sainbury must be in the squad if he is fit, he is our best CB, he has being playing very well for the Socceroos except for the game against Thailand.
Spiranovic is not so clear clut but I would have him in the squad. Not sure I would play him.

this encourages mediocrity. at what point do they pay for their shitty club choices? chasing the dollar?  this attitude is exactly why our NT is in the shit right now.

Definitely too late for a move this year, just got to hope Celtic can squeeze into the europa league from their group so he can have some decent competition the backhalf of the season. But definitely the A League teams i'd say are better than the majority of the Scottish teams without a doubt, the league is ranked lower than the Azerbaijan and Belursian leagues and half their teams got knocked out in the first qualifying round in the europa league by the 4th best team from Luxembourg and 2nd best from Lithuania! And no disrespect to those leagues but they aren't good and are in the weakest 10 leagues in europe.

That's interesting, the Portuguese second division used to be called League of Honour (Liga de Honra) as well.

As someone who has been an assistant coach in the Azerbaijani league as I have mentioned before, I can tell you the Scottish league is miles ahead.

Problem is Rogic can't play the balls through the lines and into the box that Kruse thrives on. Rogic blasts from distance or shimmys to the touch line for a cutback/low cross. He missed Kruse's dangerous runs multiple times against Thailand.Luongo and Mooy are best at playing balls past the last defender. Given the trouble playing Rogic and Mooy together I think it's better with Luongo at 10 and Rogic off the bench with 30 to go. We should have 2 of Luongo, Milligan or Irvine in the midfield at all times.

I agree. Mooy and rogic together just doesn't seem to work. Not fast enough. Both my favourite players

this encourages mediocrity. at what point do they pay for their shitty club choices? chasing the dollar?  this attitude is exactly why our NT is in the shit right now.

Picking our best CB encourages mediocrity? Surely the exact opposite is true. Picking players who are not the best rewards mediocrity.
Sainsbury has been one of the best few players for the Socceroos this year despite not playing at club level. The game against Thailand was bad but apart from that he has been very good, certainly better than any other CB who has played. I would be far more happy if his game against Thailand had not been so bad, and if he plays badly against Syria then it will be said he should never have played and I will be wrong.
Spiranovic is a different story, he has not been playing well for the Socceroos, he had been out for a long time with injury. The information coming out of China has been very poor so I am not sure if he has been playing lately or not. His second half against Japan was poor even though he was very good in the first half. Possibly a sign he is simply not fit enough to play a whole game at the required level given his long time out with injury and the low quality league he is playing in. He also seemed very frustrated with the style of play (he played lots of long balls) that Ange wants so might not be a good fit for that reason either in Ange's eyes.

The reason the NT is so bad is Ange has lost the plot, the formation and game style is very bad, he keeps picking players who are not performing for the national team. Sainsbury is not only our best CB, he is the only CB who is really suited to 3 at the back. He is the best CB on the ball, he is the quickest CB, I think he reads the game the best and is the best at one on ones.

Irvine starting. Luongo and Wright are captains tonight.  Meredith starts while Jedinak and Lyden miss out.

Elder and Williams bench. O'Neill suspended. Inman starting. Getting a good run of matches he is. Burgess on the bench. Not even a hint of him getting a rotation shot. Injuries required for him to break through.

No Burgess in S   - oops, I just ate my own poop...horpe draw.
Luongo did well in a QPR draw.
Elder came on in the 62nd minute. Maybe he'll get back to starting again soon. Wigan won 1-0. The goal came in the 83rd min.
Williams was mentioned in a few tweets as Rotheram lost 2-0. He seems to have been lively. He also seems to have played a full game.
Inman played 80min for Rochdale in a 0-0 draw with Blackpool.
Meredith played a full game as Millwall beat Reading 2-1.
