+x+x+x+x+x+xJust because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's BS 😊 I dont need to understand it to see that the outcome is BS. I dont "understand" surgery but I can see when a doctor has made a mess of teh stitches. Glory finished in 5th last year, 5th the year before, 7th before that, 8th before that and then 6th. They havent won a trophy in 20 years. And yet on this "table" they appear 3rd and that is BS - Garbage in, Garbage out. Do you understand that? Can you see why I have a problem with it?? there is no way Glory can be in third unless it is total BS You're more than welcome to ignore it and move on. I will. but I would welcome an explanation on Perth in third so I can either ignore it for good OR correct my thinking based on my misunderstanding, how are perth in third again? When I have time later I'll break down the last couple of seasons for the A-League clubs and show you. Don't bother. There's already a link where it explains how the maths work out in the OP. If he can't or won't comprehend that then he's not worth your time. I think the maths is wrong so he should bother. Perth in THIRD????

I admit that this is not a nice graph (too many squiggly lines) but on short notice it's the best you’re going to get. It shows the movement in ELO points over the last three seasons. You should be able to roughly line up the rises and falls with the games that were played at that time.
I've also removed some of the other A-League clubs to make it a little easier to follow, and bolded the Perth line. It's important to note that Perth started 2017 in 7th place, and only rose to 3rd on the back of good form at the end of the 2016/17 season, which coincided with those above them faltering (Melbourne City, Brisbane Roar). After the last couple of FFA Cup nights they have fallen to 6th.
What is also difficult to see is that FFA Cup games have a slightly higher weighting in the calculations, so those results have a bigger impact on points than a normal league game. And Perth has had a couple of good cup runs (excluding 2017).
Interestingly the graph also clearly shows the impact of FFA Cup upsets involving A-League clubs. In August 2016 all A-League clubs fell as a result of Green Gully beating Central Coast and Redlands beating Adelaide United. And again this week there is a big drop with two A-League clubs losing to NPL opposition.

The difference between 3rd and 6th is 11 points, this is a very tiny difference, so tiny as to be meaningless.

I thought Central Coast were on the brink of getting an upset win when they got it back to 2-2, but Blacktown's quality got them home in the end. :D

Blacktown are higher ranked than CCM and playing at home. So that result won't cause as much of a drop for a-league teams. Perth's loss will though.

Big drop for A-League clubs after the last two nights of FFA Cup results. Blacktown and Heidelberg move further up the table (both ahead of Newcastle Jets now), and all clubs from NSW and VIC get a boost. Mariners are now down to 14th :D

The graph didn't seem to be working in a previous post, so I've re-run it to include last nights games.

Updated for the last few weeks worth of games, including last night's FFA Cup. Heidelberg moves into 9th and is now the highest ranked non-A-League club. Blacktown and APIA are not far behind.

Salty, oh yes, but these are tears of laughter, this is funny :) :) :) this is FFA style 1. Perth finished third in the league in season 2010/11 2. The points deduction is an unusual case, but I agree that for the purposes of calculating rankings like this, we should use the actual results, not adjust them by "off the field" alterations. 3. It's not uncommon to see teams ranked higher or lower on "accumulated" tables than individual tables would suggest. As an example, look at the current standings in the WA 1st Division; (Table)Dianella White Eagles are sitting top of the table, despite the fact that they're 3rd on the table of "Home matches only" and 2nd on the table of "Away matches only".

I wanted to get a quick update in before tonights FFA Cup games because there's been some big moves near the top of the table. In particular, APIA beat Rockdale 5-0 in the NSW NPL semi-final, pushing them into 9th spot and the highest non-A-League club at the moment. Bentleigh Greens also had a semi final win, pushing them above Central Coast Mariners who are now down to 15th. And Adelaide City beat MetroStars in their semi-final to move into 11th above Newcastle Jets. APIA vs Blacktown tonight is an important game for the rankings.

With most grand finals now being played, the only remaining games outside the A-League are the FFA Cup, NPL Championships and a few games in WA and NT. Heidelberg is now the highest ranked non-A-League club. The lowest ranked NPL Champion is Belconnen (ACT) who is currently ranked 73rd.

Heidelberg can move ahead of Newcastle Jets again if they beat Bayswater in the NPL Championships this weekend. A loss would likely see them fall below Central Coast though.

APIA, Heidelberg and Blacktown have all moved ahead of Newcastle Jets on the back of the NPL Championship and FFA Cup results of the last couple of weeks. Heidelberg vs APIA should be a great game on the weekend between the best clubs from the two strongest states.

After the FFA Cup game between South Melbourne and Sydney FC, all grassroots clubs have now finished their seasons. Heidelberg finished 2017 as the highest of the non-A-League clubs (currently 9th) and Central Coast has some work to do if they're going to move back into the Top 10.

+xCan we get an update after the conclusion of the FFA Cup tonight? Yep. I actually did an update after the first five rounds of the A-League but not a lot had changed so didn't bother posting it here. I'll give the updated table tomorrow morning though.

It would be interesting to have a graph that represented every code. I'm pretty sure it was done a while back. Number one was a huge surprise. Anyone take a guess?

Updated to include FFA Cup Final, A-League and NYL games. Sydney remains way out in front, while Newcastle and Mariners have climbed up the table.
