Apparently Hiddink worked really hard to make sure we avoided all this nonsense for Uruguay, whilst making sure Uruguay experienced as much of it as possible.
All I hope is this decision was run past Ange. If Ange wanted differently, and Gallop & co didn't provide it, then I have lost faith in the management. If Ange gave it the OK, I'm happy (enough) but still am hesitant.
The big question for me is why have i never received an email from the FFA to set up my DJ equipment in a hotel corridor, byo vuvuzela, high beam my car lights into hotel windows, that kind of business? Why aren't we all called upon to fight fire with fire?

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to do this. Ridiculous decision which you'd have to think was somehow made by a non-football person! Why stump the cash to charter a flight for the Syria game only to put a massive question mark for the most important away leg of all??!
Base yourselves out of Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala or wherever to help acclimatise but you can be guaranteed our boys won't get a wink of sleep, will get food poisoning, will have all their buses break down or get stuck in 'unforseebale' traffic.
Trusting the murder capital of the world to 'play nice' is mindbogglingly naive.

Someone who claimed to have been to Honduras posting on the chat with Davor on the Fox Sports site (can't seem to find it now) seemed to be confident that they would have no problems in the part of town they've apparently booked, being one of those gated estate type places.

Time will tell but I disagree with most of yall. 5 days to acclimatize in the city they will play in will be the best possible preparation. It might be useful to think of "acclimatize" in the broadest possible sense of the word. It might not just about the weather, it could also be about the types of grass used on the playing surface, the experience of bussing around the city, hearing the language, everything.
People saying they should acclimatise in Miami might like to consider the fact that they are completely different climates! * Its 1400 km away with a similar latitude difference as Melbourne to Brisbane. * Miami is costal, SPS is inland. * The average high in Miami in November is 27.6, in SPS its 30.2 (plus higher humidity).
None of these differences existed between Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
Anywhere with good facilities in Mexico or Costa Rica ( or Guatemala or Belize) would either be over ~ 1000 meters altitude (so cooler) or coastal, or desert and still pretty far away for a flight on the day of the match (some people mention camp somewhere else then fly to SPS the day before the match, that defeats the purpose and was never under consideration).
The places that could have been good candidates if there was a good reason not to have camp in SPS would be San Salvador El Salvador and Managua Nicaragua. The only knock on San Salvador would be that it is 650 meters altitude so slightly cooler. The only knock on Managua would be that Nica is not a football nation so I am not sure how good facilities would be, I imagine there would be at least 1 good location for a camp. In both places you would have friendly locals and an extremely short flight.
There is all this media hype of the football wars and SPS being a murder capital. I think if the boys can spend 5 uneventful, normal days in the city then any intimidation of the city itself will be gone by match day. If they arrived just before the match the shock and intimidation could be a factor.
We can do a lot better this time around than we did in Montevideo 2001, for starters we can have good security at the airport (and\or sneak in) and we can stay somewhere with soundproof windows.

That is a massive if, i have my doubts they'll find a sound proof place and will be looking at 5 sleepless nights, utter chaos going to and from places and every other dirty trick in the book.

If they stay at a high end hotel they'd be alright. Have these other marvellous inventions called ear plugs too ... or if you'd prefer you can buy white noise apps for your phone.

Good points, good post. Fantastic insights in that post, but I can't help but still be hesitant to trust the locals. The biggest thing to note is anywhere outside of Honduras has supremely less Hondurans to fxxx with us.
