2 Arthur, So once again, you have nothing.

Yeah Arthur, when will you realise that FIFA + AFC + FFV + FNSW + A-League Franchise Owners Association = nothing.

Or accept that just because it's to the benefit of players, coaches, referees, administrators, football culture, geographic footprint and football infrastructure it's not good for the game...

Is it your contention that the sponsors and media DON'T want more teams, increased competition/diversity?  That they would prefer a competition with decreasing interest and continued stagnation..?  What a strange world you live in.

You've been asked several times to name said sponsors.

Here's your chance to take centre stage and shine.  Over to you.

Thats his angle.

He knows certain things are still being kept under wraps, so he'll call Benjamin and Arthur out on details that I'm assuming can't be released yet or are still only handshake agreements.

All in due course Enzo.

Yeah, we need to just give the game exposure on commercial FTA , and the we'll assume our rightful place in Australian sport.

oops, well no,no what we mean is that we need a second division with P and R and the clubs running the league and THEN we'll assume our rightful place in Australian sport.

Any. Day. Now.

Its funny you put the two as ideas from the same people

The AFL / NRL muppets said the first (ie- the FFA still believe the ratings issue is people unable to find the channel)
The football fans who you are arguing against said the second (ie- we need a sensible structure)

Just because they were wrong, it doesn't mean we are wrong

The status quo, which you are defending, gave birth to the first idea - which you have just rubbished. As I said above, you are very quick to defeat your own viewpoints

People need to be reminded of the title of this thread.

The second division is happening. Those who appose it would be better to start spending their time on why it shouldnt get eventual promotion than that it shouldnt actually happen.

With a yawn, A-League promotion-relegation saga drags on

Waiting game: Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop. Picture: AAP Image/Dean Lewins
Waiting game: Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop. Picture: AAP Image/Dean Lewins

Almost five years ago, the story ran in the Mercury about A-League promotion and relegation.

So forgive us the eye roll and yawn when the ongoing discussion has reached a crucial stage this week, as the near open-warfare about the future of the game continues.

The league wants to protect its financial war-chest, the existing clubs are determined to keep their footing in the game without the trapdoor of an end-of-season relegation. Meanwhile, National Premier League clubs and other hopefuls like Football South Coast use the pressure from the Asian Football Confederation about the issue as a crow bar for future entry into the top-tier.

And so the blueprint for the Championship – clearly taken from English football and given the name Australia Premier League is owned by lawn bowls – sits in a drawer at FFA headquarters, growing as old as the lack of vision to implement it. There are valid arguments about how it is funded, but more so validated by self-interest.

It also acts a deflection tool around expansion, the prospect of talking about considering two-tiers acting like a non-binding Federal Government postal survey in terms of bureaucratic distraction.

‘‘It’s a possibility down the track, but we don’t have any specific timeline,’’ FFA chief executive David Gallop said in 2013. Luckily for the FFA, the Socceroos precarious path to the World Cup and the ongoing saga about coach Ange Postecoglou have made fans look elsewhere.

Plenty of football types laughed at this columnist after writing a promotion-relegation story in February 2013, before the introduction of the the FFA Cup.

It’s a joke right? How would it even work, the National Premier League clubs play in winter?

To be fair it’s never properly been addressed, other than to suggest staggering a delayed season schedule over a handful of years to bring the NPL into line with the A-League.

About 18 months ago, those chasing a golden ticket to an expanded A-League were working feverishly behind the scenes, believing it could be imminent.

Now even they’ve grown jaded with all the waiting and hoping.

*sigh*

How many times do I have to do this?  Seriously.

Not ONE of those "stakeholders" is a fan or sponsor or a broadcaster willing to pay.  Without fans and sponsors and paying broadcasters, everyone is just tryng to tear up the same chicken in different ways.  No-one is bringing another chicken.

FACE IT:  Football is what it is, not what you or "they" want it to be.

Show me the money!

How many times do you have to be told that there is already heaps of money being thrown around in the NPLs. You need to spend less time arguing and more time trying to understand what you're arguing against. I'm not trying to be mean but you're making yourself look like a fool.

Pro/Rel will eventually happen after a 2nd division is established and proven that it is sustainable. I'm more worried about getting the 2nd Division off the ground in the first place. A successful, well promoted 2nd division can grow new fans in the same way that the A-League did. Especially in areas that have been burnt by the FFA in the past like Canberra, Woolongong, Gold Coast etc.
An A2 needs to be more than the NPL; more money, more fans, more professional in all aspects including admin and promotion otherwise it'll just be a vanity project for those clubs. It needs to bring something extra otherwise it'll just bring the same fans that come to npl games today, which isn't going to grow the game. Some will say making new clubs for the A2 is 'plastic' but all clubs start from somewhere.
the big fight will be for pro/rel and the A-league franchise owners will fight that like all hell.... not sure how that will happen considering the FFA is against it, the clubs are against it...

It seems more than likely Wolves will not get an A-League license so they would likely apply.

Canberra seems like a more difficult place, is someone willing to back a current club or form a new one? Seems unlikely before the application time but there may be things going on behind the scenes. I doubt it though and they/whoever may look to join once the Championship is up and running as an expansion team to that.

The article with the Canberra Olympic coach pretty much said a current NPL would struggle.. I wonder if, also pending on what happen with the A-League clubs/FFA, Canberra United could get their ip released and enter a side if Canberra would get behind it. They already have Y-League side this year and the Canberra United Academy teams play an age up in every age group except the Senior Mens. Their 17s actually won the u20s by the looks of it aswell.

This is really imo uneducated view. Oceania nations will be eligable to take a visa spot. Some in the mens I guess but there is a big opportunity for NZ women there. To put themselves on a platform for W-League and potentially US, Euro clubs. I think the womens Championship would have many more NZ players than the mens Visa allocation doesnt have to be taken though.

Hey bro, remember that time you became a mod...

Relevant because..?  I'm not here to sit on the fence, and I'm not here to ban people for being annoying.  I'll delete the spam and move a few threads to correct forums...  Other than that unless someone is being aggressive or outright insulting, anything goes.
