Melbourne City have confirmed on Monday that Argentinian attacker Fernando Brandan has left the club, effective immediately.

Both parties mutually agreed to terminate the remainder of his deal, allowing the 27-year-old to return to Club Atletico Temperley in the Argentine Primera División this week.

Brandan joined City from Temperley on a loan deal in July 2016.

During his time with the club, he made 19 appearances, including 13 starts, and was part of the team that won the 2016 Westfield FFA Cup final over Sydney FC.

Brandan scored three goals and was a firm fan favourite with City supporters before suffering a serious knee injury in a training mishap in March, just before the 2016/17 Finals Series.

Huge pressure on Fornaroli when he comes back now.

I've missed this?
Where did Kilkenny go?
Thought he was back in the squad and City were stuck with him. Even so, 1 out of 2 is not bad so far.

Hi is still in the extended squad (for now).
WJ does not select him which is a big change from last year when he was voted their best player.

WJ does not like short players. full stop. he likes big players, even if they have less technical skill, or vision, or ability to influence  the game.

I have to disagree with you guys, insofar as; he was a competitor and when he was contributing, the City team were much more of a threat and an FFA Cup winning team. They've missed him nearly as-much as Fornaroli really. Fitzgerald has lifted but isn't the same with drawing fouls and threatening the opposition with quick transitions, inter-pay and goals. As the Fox commentators have said, if Fitzgerald could add more goals to his game then the sky's the limit for him - we'd forget about Brandan! City have lacked that bite, competitiveness and swift sharpness going forward that they were known for. They've certainly tightened defensively but the lack of the familiar options and chemistry in the front third have dented that fluidity going forward as Brandan and Fornaroli had a good understanding and contributed to that effectiveness on goal. Bruce Kamau's form needs to improve too, to prove he has the talent to take that responsibility. With McCormack's injury, it will be interesting to see what attacking wingers like Kamau and Fitzgerald can bring with that void. Arzani is a wonderful talent and requires more consistent opportunity too. Hopefully Atkinson and Budzinski can provide the bigger central foils to enable the these other attacking talents to thrive too, even if they're having to play out-of-position themselves. Fornaroli will be back soon enough, so in another way these talents have to seize their opportunity while they can because they won't be there for long.

Buzinkski could be following Brandan out there door at this rate - so he really needs to step up and lead during this period to prove his value, because he was in McCormack, Cahill and other's shadows as they took up the attacking load. But now he really is the main man as the last one standing basically and has the size and capability to fill into that Striker kind of role. He's a capable finisher and just needs to be motivated to adapt and impress, gel with team-mates. This is a time of the season which can make or break many players and teams in the league.

The problem with really long posts as opposed to a few smaller ones is that the 442Bot overtakes you on the alltime post count

Closed HAL is failing with 10 teams
Closed HAL failed with 11
FFA forced to try a 12 team Closed HAL thatll just create 2 more mid table also-rans
and still this weird 16-team panacea gets trotted out.
Theres a sticky for this nonsense

Kinda was never sure if he had all his teeth, to me he had the smile of a meth head.
Still he was the occasional semi decent player, good chance whoever replaces will be better, in both player and dental hygiene departments.

Shocked and saddened to see him go.

I want these type of players in the league. Great competitor, fair and not a butcher, and willing to play his heart out for the win. I watch a bit of the primera so, at least I'll be able to watch him play with Temperley for the rest of the season and see how he goes before they get relegated.

The worst thing is, the league needs more of these players not less.

I think Brandan is a big loss for the HAL.

Last season he played some superb football. I'm surprised Joyce overlooked him.

Joyce  overlooking  technical players like Brattan, Kilkenny and Brandan is surprising.

Not to  mention Cahill. I think McCormack has still only scored 1 goal from open play.

I agree with those in favour of Brandan.
He had fight/skill despite his over acting.
It seems others more so MV supporters typically put the knife in but to those whinging the HAL lacks this and that and the play actors this is what the league needs to act spice entertainment and banter this is what supporters thrive on.

Never an advocate of his antics BUT looking at the bigger picture he brought out of the league a love hate relationship that is sorely needed. Every team needs the bad guy that opposition supporters can't stand and he was it.

Reality though is he hasn't played this season and from reports isn't ready yet to take part. So from a pragmatic decision making approach it's not a bad move from the club especially if they can secure someone else over January. I'm dissapointed he's gone but the argument would be entirely different had he been playing and moved on.

Good point n i k o and after reading of Joyce's thoughts on how he under-performed at training, not showing the level of player he was told about from last season, perhaps it's for the best. Decentric onto something though and fanoffootball may be too, as the pattern is those who have fallen out of favour are those can contribute less to the tactical discipline of the club, working from the back. Freer-role creative types have fallen out of favour like Kilkenny and Brandan, even Cahill too as tactically he didn't quite fit, especially with McCormack performing. There were also the reports of well regarded assistant Joe Montemurro falling out of favour with Joyce not favouring Video sessions. Some of his remarks seem to reflect an old-fashioned coach and that seems to be why Valkanis fell out with him too. He's rather pragmatic and so it will be interesting to see how effective City are going forward with McCormack injured, Cahill gone and Fornaroli still a little while from returning. This will be a test of his tactics and squad management with such individual talents missing.
