+x+xAnge must be convinced to stay on for another 4 years. We are in a period of transition and Ange is the best man for the job. He's 100% leaving and I'm glad he is to be honest. While Ange has been great, I think it might be best for all parties to move on after Russia. The love affair has just about ran its race and we need a new direction. Ange had no answer to the Japanese press last night. Could have started with pushing 2 mids and the striker (a real one, not Kruse) to one side of the Japs defensive half and kick the fucking thing there and try to win a second ball but mainly to push them back a bit. I counted 6 or 7 players in or around our defensive third at one goal kick. Hard to play through that and dumb as well. Space was over the top. Apart from the baffling selections (Kruse at striker, and Smith at all), the most frustrating thing is this insistence on playing out no matter what. Its not good football when its always the same and totally one-dimensional. Its almost like they are ashamed to hit a long ball for fear of being called route 1 or something.

+xUpdated results in OP. Ange's arrogance seems to be catching up with him. How he can ignore (as reported) a league winning player in Jones but pick players who never get club games such as Smith is staggering. This play out from the back is a total failure. Ther teams know they can let the aussies do it because A- They do nothing with it anyway B - will turn it over under the slightest pressure. :D

BULLSHIT. We have made the world cup despite Ange and his poor coaching. The team selected tonight and the way it set up was very poor.

I tend to agree. He just does not understand the importance of movement. Whenever he gets the chance he defaults back to a midfield with out any players who run and provide options. Mooy is a very good player but when he is surrounded by immobile players he has no options and his effectiveness is greatly limited.

Mooy is a very good player but when he is surrounded by immobile players he has no options and his effectiveness is greatly limited. I think you'll find he does understand the importance of movement. I've done a coaching clinic under Ange's and Tassie FFA TD, Kurt Reynolds', joint presentation. Ange analyses games in Ball Possession for the attacking third, middle third and defensive third of the pitch. He also analyses games in Ball Possession Opposition for the attacking third, middle third and defensive third of the pitch. He selects players like Jedinak whose strength is prudent off the ball movement in Ball Possession Opposition, as opposed to what he does with the ball at his feet. Against Honduras in the second game their intensive squeezing in BPO, and well timed pressing in BPO, reduced our time and space on the ball. It reduced Mooy's passing options.

Mark bang on the money. Shit selections to give us our worst ever WC performance. For what? So everyone can debate what F****** legacy this guy has. If he walks away, should the FFA look at a long-term successor or put the entire focus on a World Cup coach? I think the sole aim should be on World Cup. I’ve always said that the World Cup is enormous and has to always be a priority. One of my biggest issues with the last World Cup was that it wasn’t treated as a priority. It was used to give players experience so that they could try and win the Asian Cup on home soil. For me that was the wrong approach in a lot of ways because the World Cup is the pinnacle and should be where your focus is on planning your strongest team to get the best result you can on the world stage .FIFA World Cup 2018: Socceroos, Ange Postecoglou, Mark Schwarzer
Cant be called a failure when you throw matches.

Being the worst team in 2 decades still doesnt mean that they should underperform. No way Ange gets 100% effectiveness out of the players that he has. Perhaps not many could but I think many could get more out of them with better tactics than Ange.

We dont have a single world class player, our forward options are dire. tommy juric has literally missed 7-8 clear cut chances in a row the last few games .how many coaches get 100% percent out of what they have? Not saying certain aspects of his coaching dont have flaws but for the most part he has got a lot out of them.

The holger team of 2012 - 2013 was a good team name wise but a pack of dinosaurs playing in oil leagues: Schwarzer Wilkshire, Neill, Ogganovski, Carney/Mckay Jedinak, Bresciano Kruse Holman Oar/Brosque Cahilll/ Kennedy Kewell, Emerton, Archie, Ruka, Holland, Thwaite Lot of players on their last legs in that side. This side is comfortably better and plays much better football. Remember we collected more points in qualifying this time than last. And finally the worst team we've ever had was the one that went to the 2014 world cup. Remember all of McGowan, Davidson, Halloran, Vidosic, Bozanic and Taggart got starts in that cup... think about that for a moment!!!

If anything this reflects more glowingly on ange when you bring up 2012-13, some great names on that list but who other then ange was gonna have the balls to regenerate the squad? Whilst that team was never gonna do any damage at a world cup holger wasnt stupid he knew the experience he had alone in that side would be enough to at least qualify. Btw those old farts still smashed the saudis and were good enough to get a draw in japan. Ange would kill to even have a 2012 schwarzer between the sticks.

I think I heard yesterday the Socceroos lost 2 qualifying games out of 22 WCQs played.

I think I heard yesterday the Socceroos lost 2 qualifying games out of 22 WCQs played. From the second stage we have played 14 games. 6 wins 7 draws and 1 loss. One draw turned into an extratime win. That is not enough wins. In our grop we finished 3rd in every way. 3rd in gf , 3rd in ga. Japan vs Thai 6 points 6-0 Saudi vs Thai 6 points 4-0 Australia vs Thai 4 points 4-3 Iran lost no games in 18, Japan lost 2 and were already through when SA beat them. Heres a stat. The 4 countries that qualified directly didnt lose a round 1 game. Australia did. It doesnt mean anything. He gets them to play well, but that doesnt equate to being effective. No enough goals scored, too many let in. Too much wasted possession.

The only stat that matters is whether or not you qualify.
Ange was in the gun to cop a potential holger sacking after the confeds cup but the smashings many predicted didn't eventuate.

Japan I'd still like to know why he quit, I don't want to wait 20 years for a book I think it would be a pretty lucrative deal,,, for someone to be able to give up the chance of coaching in a world cup. What I want to know is, did he already have talks with Yokahama whilst he was still coach of the Socceroos?
