+x+x+xThe public is rapidly losing interest, and all the FFA & Team owners can do is focus on who controls the money. The lower the ratings the less the Independent League will have to pay to the FFA That's why the AAFC have stopped buying big Marquees and CFG have just deleted Timmy, the FFA's only remaining marketing tool the lower the ratings, the less income from sponsors, supporters & TV stations, meaning more financial pressure for HAL teams majority of which are already bleeding. short term pain, better than a slow death

The BBL tv figures are around 800k viewers in the metro area and about 1.2 million including regionals.

Got rid of fox this week. A league was only thing keeping me from cancelling previously. The football is just terrible and better to save the money. May look at streaming next year but product on field has to improve. Was barely watching any more and previously would watch most games on weekends. 1 game on FTA is enough for now.

I'd love to see if there is any correlation between the drop in viewership of the A-League and a drop in subrscription numbers(if any) on FOX.
In this day and age if you have some form of Optus subscription you get unlimited access to EPL, and then for something like $20 a month you can get a Bein subscription, in which you get access to a larger amount of games than the FOX/Bein channels throw up.
Then throw in a smart tv with mirror cast or the chromecast dongle, which costs less than $100, which then takes away the limitations of only being able to watch on a tablet or phone and it works out a hell of a lot cheaper than Foxtel, almost making it obsolete.
At the moment I'm lucky enough to use my old mans Foxtel Go login to watch A-League and Bein but knowing the above scenario is available, my old mans talk of getting rid of Fox doesn't even have me worried about missing out on HAL knowing I can still watch majority of the major leagues for half the cost of Foxtel.

😂 He's one of them on again off again people when it comes to Fox.
Has it for two years, gets rid of it complaining there is nothing on and then after a few years of watching FTA he gets it back on and the cycle begins.

are the BBL ratings up or down compared to last year? there doesn't seem to be as much of a buzz about it this time around.

I had the cricket on the ABC radio yesterday and through lunch in the test match they were talking about how there isn't as much buzz about BBL this year and that if they continue to extend the season like they have and plan to do more so in the future they'll risk detracting from what made the BBL so popular which is the convenience of it being school holidays entertainment. They did mention they haven't played any of the 'derbies' yet.
I personally have no interest in it but it was interesting listen to the likes of Gerard Whately and co who are very cricket positive.

Can you imagine an extended BBL season and higher profile, extended WBBL season.

I don't think an extended BBL will actually help them, it is successful because it is a fun short term tournament in the school holidays.

Thats interesting considering crowds have already been huge, 20k+ for games in melb and sydney, sydney derby sold out, perth sold out the other night and brisbane had 34,000 last night...imagine when they get rolling into the new year! However they wouldnt wanna expand it too much as the bulk of the games are played on weeknights..even for holiday period it amazes me seeing people watching a live sporting event that ends as late as 11pm some nights.

This year they've extended it by a couple of matches each team into regional areas, hurricanes are playing a game in Launceston in a few nights, but they were talking on the radio about extending it to a home and away season which the commentators I was listening to stated was overkill. They referenced the English version of BBL and how quickly it died through overkill.
They also stated fears for what will happen to Sheffield Shield etc which have already been trimmed to fit BBL in.

That's a nice way of saying we are not putting a team where you are but please continue to blindly follow the league.
