Rhys Williams still not a shout for RB? Used to play there and killed it a few times for the socceroos playing there

Agree with this. IMO Wiliams' best position was RB. Haven't seen much of him lately though to see if his mobility has degressed.

Full match for Caceres. Two losses in the ACL.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Would be happy to see Williams tried at RB again. He appears to natural there. With Sainsbury inside him it'd be a solid pairing.

Callum Elder now has as many assists this season against the top 6 EPL sides as Eden Hazard, Raheem Stirling, and Mesut Ozil.

And he's in League One.

I can see wigan losing a few squadies in the next transfer window.  elder might get recalled to leicester.

great photo..

Lovely goal by Borello. He gets it while standing  on the top left corner of the box. He jukes to his right and the shoots a cutting ball sharply left and it beats the keeper with ease.

Darmstadt have massive striker issues. They should check for a clinical finisher from the A League :D

borello's performance is very promising
he was actually average, albeit promising, in the a league so to perform this well in the buli means he has probably improved as a player

Wright starting.

2:0 Kaiserslautern. Borello reacts quickly to thread the ball forward for his teammate to cross hard for another to slot it in. Good play by all.

I don’t think football is such a linear thing as you’re making it sound.
I’m sure he improved in the past 6 months, but a larger part of it is just being the type of player who’s skills translate better to a higher level without depending on shittier slower opposition.
He didn’t have huge weaknesses that are exposed at a higher level.
I.e. Maclaren who was a bit of a one trick pony, who’s trick doesn’t work against an organised defence.

Some of his interplay, passing was unbelievable. Another level. No wonder he's starting.
Scored that first goal ? wow. I rolled over and saw they scored but never knew it was him.
He's kicking ass, looks a different player playing 'real football' in a real league.

What's actually impressive about him is his team mates aren't scared to pass to him. Whereby, other Australian nationals in the past they've been a little hesitant to trust them with the ball. They just feed him with no hesitation whatsoever. He also transitions from attack and defense smoothly. I would say positionaly he is doing exactly what is asked of him.

His last 6 months in the A-league were very good, he was very dynamic and started turning his potential into ability. iirc quite a few roar fans were saying that he was more promising than Maclaren by the time they left.

Pretty funny that Borello has ended up scoring more goals than MacLaren and in a better league than MacLaren.

‘Has the Maloney look about him’ – Celtic fans react after club agree to sign explosive attacker

Featured Image
By Richard Parks

Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight after the club signed Australian winger Leo Mazis from Canberra’s National Premier League club Belconnen United.

The Scottish giants revealed on their official academy Twitter account on Tuesday night that they have completed the purchase of the teenage attacker, who is aged 17.

Mazis has agreed terms to follow Tom Rogic’s steps and leave the semi-professional club in Canberra to move to the Scottish giants.

LEO MAZIS Everyone in the Academy is delighted at the completion of the signing of 17year old Leo from Belconnen United, Canberra, Australia.

Midfielder Leo hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Belconnen player, Tom Rogic. ???? pic.twitter.com/zzD34MURZC

— Celtic FC Academy (@CelticFCAcademy) February 20, 2018

It has been previously reported that Celtic had offered Mazis a three-year contract but that has not been confirmed by the club.

Celtic fans have taken to social media to hail the arrival of the young attacker, who was pictured at his unveiling with Celtic youth-team coach Shaun Maloney.

A number of supporters expressed their hope that Mazis can make the same impact at Parkhead as ex-winger Maloney, who had two successful spells at Celtic from 2001 to 2007 and 2008 to 2011.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Celtic signing up Leo Mazis & Liam Hughes as hopefully regular senior squad players in the future is great news all round. Great stuff ????????

— Player One (@retrobotik) February 20, 2018

He has the maloney look about him..hope he as good as that wee guy????????

— Jose(golfnut67) (@JGolfnut67) February 20, 2018

Welcome to the Celtic family ????

— Ellen Dickson (@67Dixie) February 20, 2018

Welcome to Paradise Leo, you have signed for the best team world ( on and off the pitch) Enjoy your football & know you are always appreciated????????????????Hail Hail????????

— Themis (@Themis1888) February 17, 2018

Good luck Leo! ????✌

— Stephen Knox (@sknox7) February 17, 2018

Congratulations Leo. Another top Oz joins the Hoops

— Jim Cunningham (@JimCunningham4) February 17, 2018

Good luck, Leo. You can learn a lot from Shaun Maloney, his attitude was great & what a player he was…heart of a lion

— Joe???? (@celticjoe86) February 17, 2018

Football Insider verdict:

Celtic have previous when it comes to snapping up golden Aussie talent. Rogic joined from Central Coast Mariners after a spell at Mazis’ previous club Belconnen and has made a huge impact at Parkhead. If Mazi, who is renowned for his explosive pace, can follow in the imperious footsteps of his countryman and blaze a trail in to the first team, it could be a spectacular deal for the Hoops, who had a good look at the youngster during his November trial.

In other Celtic transfer news, the plug has been pulled at the last minute on the Hoops loaning a left-sided player.

Although both are different players with Borrello a better all round attacker its a not surprise that he's doing well in Germany, i always felt MacLaren is quite predictable in how he plays, he has a limited skill set which doesn't help him at all.

But the media give MacLaren the bigger wraps when we know Borrello has the bigger potential.

people on here digging it into maclaren while he is down.  tall poppy syndrome.

he just needs game time. he's a great striker and we should be hoping he gets on the pitch and starts knocking them in. because he can.  because he has.

he's more like firmino than a typical striker. how many top level teams would firmino fit into as a 9??  there's a good chance that he would be fighting to get in the 11 at most top level clubs.  but you put firmino into liverpool under klopp and he is part of one of the most dangerous front 3 since neymar left barca.

maclaren needs to play in a team with the front 3 on the front foot. he cannot be lone man in the other half of the pitch.  he needs to be in an aggressive attacking team.
