how many were on counter Maclaren, kruse and to a lesser degree leckie are all counter attacking specialists. If we played on the counter a front three like that could tear teams apart but maclaren isnt the guy you want if you are pinning an opposition back dominating possession and trying to find an avenue in tight spaces

Wasn't effective for Darmstadt either. He can not create his own shot. How many of those shots did he take more than 2 touches.

Quickness is his high 'FIFA Rating' . average-to-high speed, then you'd have shot at about 71 or somesh*t Truth is he's no counter attack specialist either. He ends up poaching em' on the counter too. This where he falls way short overseas. A-League you'd always have some sloppy shit happennings at the back for him to pounce on n make something of. Rarely this happens in Euro Euro defenses are a bit more strong and don't let in much. This could end up impacting his confidence also , not having many goal chances/opportunities throughout the duration of a game. Thus, making his game worse. he could potentially play at a high level if he found a team that was tactically suited to him
yeah like Hibs? lol I don't see an up side, will either play sufficiently well or be in limbo

Rarely this happens in Euro I think poacher is harsh. His goals are frequently scored when there are players around and in front of him, as I pointed out before they arent exactly tap ins. He is excellent in his movement and creates a lot of opportunities with his running off the ball. With kruse and maclaren you would have two players making dangerous runs in behind lets hope maclaren comes good at hibs. SPL midfields are significantly weaker than a league but the strikers and cbs there are better so its still a step up for him

SPL midfields are significantly weaker than a league but the strikers and cbs there are better so its still a step up for him Poacher a bit harsh? hmm @ Perth Glory, he was 100% a goal poacher, scrapping goals off of anything Keogh missed. Often came on late in games , and I argued at this stage that he should be given starts because of just his incredible ability to position himself/ be in the right place to score a goal off of anything missed. 100% poacher here @ Brisbane he blossomed under a counter attack style implemented by Aloisi towards his strengths of running and quickness and off the ball intellegence. Which was a different 'job', but still he was heavily reliant on whether a ball would rebound or fall into his path. Hence why many say 'tap in' specialist. However, there is no doubt he was developing in some other areas of his game in those 19 so goals. Probably left the A-League too early tbh and should have developed in more comfortable environment before he left. Had everything set up for him. Hibs are a similar team so hopefuly he can start where he left off. Doh 2-0 Behich down to Galatasary

+x+xpeople on here digging it into maclaren while he is down. tall poppy syndrome. he just needs game time. he's a great striker and we should be hoping he gets on the pitch and starts knocking them in. because he can. because he has. he's more like firmino than a typical striker. how many top level teams would firmino fit into as a 9?? there's a good chance that he would be fighting to get in the 11 at most top level clubs. but you put firmino into liverpool under klopp and he is part of one of the most dangerous front 3 since neymar left barca. maclaren needs to play in a team with the front 3 on the front foot. he cannot be lone man in the other half of the pitch. he needs to be in an aggressive attacking team. But Firmino is one of the most all round strikers in the world, while Maclaren is the definition of a limited striker with average finishing. A better example of what you are trying to say would be Juric who is actually good off the ball even if he is shit at finishing. no because juric is exactly the player that maclaren is not. a very old school big centre forward. a target man that holds up the ball. maclaren has great positioning, finishing and pace. but he needs to play in a system where he can ghost behind strong and dominant wings that like to cut in. like broich and borello at brisbane - or in firminos case, salah and sane. he''s one of the best strikers that australia has produced in a while. but you can't have him as a lone man - and how many times does that actually work anyway? he needs to work in a fluid front 3 with wingers that can cut in shoot and create - not just bomb down the sides and send in crosses like it's england 20 years ago.

But Firmino doesn't look to get behind the defence he plays in Salah and Mane, he is much more like Juric in the sense he holds the ball up, has his back to goal and starts plenty of attacks from his pressing. He also has a lot more to his game but that is why he is one of the best strikers in the world. Maclaren while is excellent at being at the right position at the right time isn't someone who is good off the ball. He doesn't create many chances himself and completely relies on those around him to do the work for him because if he doesn't have someone to play off, or constantly putting in dangerous through balls or crosses he is next to useless. It is why he struggles nationally because we can't create fuck all and require more from our striker in creating chances and why he struggled to get game time with Dresden as relegation favourites won't be giving him many good chances and the manager realised that. Also he isn't the most clinical striker, he isn't a player that if he gets one good chance a game he will score from it which is the trademark of a good poacher. He either needs to improve off the ball and create more chances or become more clinical or he'll be heading back to the Australia.
