I’d take Nichols. What’s to lose? He’s more likely to score coming off the bench than anyone we currently have. Experienced in finals footy (if we make it).

+x@Benda Parma "FBK hasnt been that bad" - goodness me, what have you been eating? He's gone up so many blind alleys this year that he wears goggles for fun. He makes mazy runs to nowhere, passes to no-one, and then shrugs his shoulders because no-one is on his page. And therein lies the problem, its his page, and he makes as if he's a team player, but the facts point elsewhere. I was judging him against the rest of the team. The way most have played this year, not that bad is pretty good. He has been pretty inconsistent but there have been games where he was one of the better players. To be perfectly honest, he has been better than say Skapetis, Dagostino, Gameiro, Brady. Not sure if he has had a better year than Holman or not, i am undecided.

A half year deal, if it works out, he is a massive asset, if it doesnt he doesnt get a game, so what? It would be pretty ironic if John Aloisi saved the season by signing three old Ange players in Franjic, Nichols, and Henrique.

OKay, i cant understand this.
I only watched the second half, and Roar looked comfortably the better side, and never should have looked like losing, even though they did nearly lose and i dont even know what to say about the time wasting at the end. Over the last few games they have put some decent play together in patches and look to have so much improvement in them. With the exception of Jamie Young and maybe Franjic or Kristianson (who are maybe in decent form) and i suppose Pepper and Bowles who arent in the same class as the rest of the team but are at least improving and playing well, the team has to playing at 50% of what they can.
Yet despite this, over the last 9 games (one third of a season) they are officially the in form team (with the now out of form Sydney). If they had produced this form (6 wins a draw and 2 losses) in the other two thirds of the season, they would be on track to finish comfortably in second place on the ladder. IN fact if you allow for the wins over Sydney that repeating the form gives, they would probably win the league! All this, by playing some of the worst football the club has ever played, having nothing more than an average run with injuries and player outs (Devere, North and Papadopolous were regularly out, Holman has been in and out) plus the bounce of the ball in the form of VAR's, ref decisions, 50-50 calls etc while not as terrible as early in the season hasnt exactly gone our way. In fact if i simply watched most of the games, without knowing the table or tallying the goals and results but just judging on the form, i would consider the Roar to be on target for the wooden spoon. I know i dont feel confident of beating any side when we play them at the moment. Even the Mariners and Phoenix have been massive struggles in every game this year. I dont know that we will beat Western Sydney or Perth in the next two games.
So, with all this, are all the other teams playing as badly as Brisbane are, is this the worst A league standard in the historyof the league, or do i have it wrong and we are actually playing good. And what if we click and raise the extra 50% we look to be capable of, will we start to demolish sides and maybe even win the league?

@ Bender Parma
It’s just a clusterfuck of a season. Can’t think of anything that has worked well.
- we started with a 3-at the back experiment which was a disaster.
- formation has been too fluid, we’ve played 3-2-4-1, 4-2-3-1. 4-4-2, and 4-4-1–1
- medical support got caught up in behind the scenes BS and was inadequate, hence all the injuries.
- recruitment had a plan but they gambled in too many areas:
* Gameiro looks promising but it’s taken until the later rounds to work out * Skapetis. Fail. * FBK. okay but nothing to write home about. * Maccarone. Okay but not without pace around him. * Oxborrow. Fail
- then there’s Brown, turned up fat and with a Victory contract in his back pocket for preseason
- none of the youngsters have pushed on this season, that’s the first time in almost a decade we’ve got to the seasons end without being excited about a new young player.
So I think we can beat anyone on our day, but I don’t ghink we could do it twice. Plenty of sides have up and down form making it hard to pick the GF teams but it’s hard to look past the top 4
After 5 seasons as an A league coach JA shouldn’t be in this position, but he is, and he should be fired for it.

Re-youngsters. Aloisi has been here 3 seasons, during which time not a single player has come through the youth team to either be a regular first team player or go on to better things.
We used to be the club that produced the best young talent - Vidosic, Oar, Zullo, Kruse, Nicholls, all went on to wear green and gold. And the likes of Borello, even players like donachie, Sarota and Yeboah who became regulars at senior level. But under Aloisi - zilch. Surely this is a concern.

@ clockwork
When Aloisi arrived, within 1-2 months, he basically spilled 80% of the then youth team saying they weren’t good enough.
The problem with JAs appointment is he was given too much power and responsibility for such a junior and inexperienced coach.

Good ... we’ve now signed our keeper and a guy we apparently didn’t need 2 years ago when he was only 30 .... it’s a start.

Great sign for our younger players like Leck, Brady and Akbari... 😂 Really didn't need to sign Henrique. He's wobbled around for a few games and scored a goal against the Mariners. Club legend but not what we needed.

I’ve no problem with Ricky being signed, on a squad of 23 players it makes little difference one way or the other.
But that goal he scored on Saturday wouldn’t have been scored by Leck, Brady or D’Aggers ... in fact I don’t think Taggart or MacLaren would have scored it; I don’t know what we’re teaching our young kids but it’s not finishing.
He was clubless with his last club being in Iran, so recon he’ll have been signed on minimum wage so basically cheap, Australian and a known quantity - that’s a good signing imo

Good signing.A good club man,who can run, tries his hardest and seems to have a clue what he is doing. For a cheap signing who can make an impact off the bench, you can't do much better.

One thing I noticed on the weekend. Every time Ricky was on the ball in space the crowd lift. When fbk was breaking down the wing there was nothing. Why when Ricky on the ball something happens. With other the ball passed backwards or they just run out of steam. That's worth the coin.

Agree totally, you can almost write Ricky off to marketing spend as he’s part pre-match promotion and part in-game entertainment lol
But he’s good at what he does, and he can finish. I remember back in Round 2 at home to Adelaide we were leading 1-0 deep in the second half when Maccarone charged down Izzo and the ball fell to D’Aggers who fluffed not one but two chances one on one with Izzo. His lack of composure was the complete opposite to Ricky, so it’s okay for critics to say “play young Australians” but they need to develop the same level of basic skills as the likes of Ricky before they start regularly

On the flip side BKF has been terrible three games in a row.I counted only one successful pass last game.He lost the ball all the time. He should have been hooked. Just what is going on in his head ?

Agree on FBK, personally I’m not disappointed in his recent form - I don’t want Aloisi to be confused and potentially re-sign him for next year.
Cold and flu is running through the roar camp though - quite a few players have been down with it, so maybe he’s had something too

FBK the most disappointing player for me. I shook Henrique's hand and welcomed him back when we met. Says something what I still think of him.
In a resort somewhere

Agree , truth is Ricky with his personality will bring fans to the game on the flip side FBK doesn’t really endear himself to the fans. If Ricky has signed as reported , how many players do we now have locked in for next year ? What players should we be looking at from other clubs or do we look for overseas bargains ? See Craig Moore is currently on holidays in Brazil .

I’ve been told a couple more have been re-signed, a couple have signed from other A League clubs, and they’re waiting for a visa player overseas to accept their offer. They’re doing stuff but it will be a while before we peasants know what’s what, but from the back here’s the unsigned players now (ignoring some of the kids):
Hingert Bowles Pepper Brown Franjic North Mckay Holman FBK Oxborrow Maccarone
On contract:
Young Avraam DeVere Kristensen Caletti Bautheac O’ Toole Henrique

He’s been tweeting his journey around the world and said that he’s looking at players for a variety of clubs, specifically naming Roar as one of them. I wouldn’t believe all that’s written in the mail, I think they like to make mountains out of molehills when it comes to Roar scandals.
