@Waz,Back on the JA bandwagon ,because he says he is rebuilding?
Yeah Nah,Aloisi has proved he isn't a good coach.
He failed with his proposed three at the back system.Picked the players and failed.
This season he says he learnt a lot.Maybe, but the dross he has served up this season hasn't changed.Last night was no improvement on the first game.So what has he been building?Youth? Yeah Nah.
No system ,no plan ,no improvement.Just bs statements and excuses.
I respect Okon more.He had a plan.He did have excuses. He had half the squad and resources JA had .
All that JA did at the end of the season to keep his job was to go ultra defensive .
The moment he goes back to trying to play real football,he will be back where he started.Getting pasted conceding goals for fun.Which is what has happened whenever he tries to play football.
He isn't up to it.
If you want to predict outcomes follow the trend.Bad coaches don't win anything.

“No system ,no plan” .... Aloisi has a system and a plan, he just can’t execute it. By the time he figures it out the game will have moved on lol.

I don’t know why Roar are sticking with Aloisi, they just are. But all he has to do though is be clear on his preferred system (which is 4-4-1-1, sacrifice possession, hit on the counter attack, sign players that friggin suit his system, then pick players on form not age/reputation ..... oh, and have them fit for R1

@ BRFC92 Radinovic does seem to have made a difference. Again it’s gossip but I’m hearing there’s been lots of transfer activity since he arrived and several re-signings have already taken place; so providing JA is picking the players he wants, to fit his systems, and he sticks to the gameplan he had (with Maclaren up front) we’ll do okay next year. I still think Ross is too inexperienced to be assistant coach though, and if there’s a change that’s where I think we can improve.

The problem is nobody really is interested in re-signing our players who clearly aren't good enough. They're old and only made the finals by the skin of their teeth. What's another year going to do? Regress even more.

Jade North should've retired after we won our last toilet seat. McKay should have called it quits last year. Holman is made of glass and has the first touch of a cricket bat. Pepper as a squad player is fine, but isn't in the first 15 of a championship winning team (let alone starting) - and that is what we should be aiming for, right? A championship?

Itwill be really hard to follow if we are stuck watching McKay commit useless fouls all season again next year, and it will be interesting if another Brisbane team is selected for expansion. Because another year of this, a newly included club building excitement, having Broich involved with them and announcing some good signings could really spell trouble for Roar. To be honest, they really need fresh blood and a big year.

lol “The problem is nobody really is interested in re-signing our players who clearly aren't good enough” ... apart from Brown who’s gone to Melbourne and Young who had several competing offers.

But FBK, Holman, Mckay, Maccarone, Theo, North - agree, no one in Australia will be interested. That’s a total of 6 which is quite damning on last winters recruiting

Bowles, Hingert, Franjic - would fit in many squads both as starters and bench players.

Pepper - I disagree with. He’s worth a 2 year contract, the longer he stays, the more he plays, the better he gets. He was excellent against Fornaroli last night.

D’Agastiono, Gameiro, Oxborrow will be lucky to stay in the HAL, if they do it’ll be minimum wage squad fillers although Gameiro has the talent he just needs to get over his injuries.

So it’s a mixed bag - JA should be accountable for that but somehow he’s not being held to account.

I was talking about Brisbane fans. Young has already been re-signed and we don't need Corey Brown with OToole being a better player already imo.

As I said earlier, happy to see Jack stay. Franjic maybe but I'd hate to see OToole's progress suffer because he stays on and he's 31 - shouldn't be using multiple 30+ players off the pine. Wouldn't be offering Bowles much money because of his injury history.

Pepper is in no way a championship winning CB. And if you re-sign him and have LDV and Papa, you can't be offering money to Bowles as well. Promote a youth team player for that fourth spot.

The following players are the only ones who’d be in the starting 11 of a team with potential to win a premiership.
Young; Franjic/Hingert; O’Tool; Avraam; deVere; TK; Beautheac.
Calletti, Henrique, Pepper, McKay and Bowles and possibly Akbari are pretty useful squad members with Calletti and Akbari hopefully kicking on.
Unfortunately, none of our current young strikers are first team material.
So we need a couple of quality midfielders, a winger and a striker.

Pretty much agree with that. A league’s squads, due to the cap, are made up of 7+7+7 players and your 2 marquee/exempt players. That’s seven each from good/expensive to seven medium to seven squad fillers/cheap with the criteria bring cost first which should - in theory - relate to quality.

You win titles with the top two brackets, not the squad fillers who are there on price only. For Roar next season:

2 Marquees: Bautheac, then ??

Top 7: Young, TK, Avraam, DeVere, new winger, new striker, new 10.

Mid 7: Bowles, Hingert, Franjic

Low 7: Pepper, McKay, O’Toole, Henrique, White (GK), Caletti

Maybe some of D’Aggers, Ingham, Gamers, Martinez, Akbari (not sure who’s on a youth contract and who’s not?)

@waz From what I’ve seen so far, I reckon O’Toole will be in the Mid 7 and that Calletti needs to get there by mid season. Otherwise we are looking for 8 players in the off season who are better than those two.
Then again, perhaps we should be realistic and hope that by end of next season we finish top 6 but with an average squad age of around 26-28 and hope for a premiership by 2020/21?

The 7+7+7 is primarily salary based but of course there is a link to ability. So O’Toole appears there as does Henrique who was picked up on minimum wage - both of which have the quality to be in the mid-range

And that’s where there will be an attraction to Mckay as he’ll basically be in the lower 7 (as the bulk of his salary will be written off to the loyalty bonus)

Sell it however they want, but I'd rather he not be there at all. Reminds me of when Ange came in and did his clearout. McKay might be cheap and have all the good intentions in the world but he's not going to be good for the squad imo. New players, new culture. Sign McKay as an academy coach.

Pumping it long for Taggart to chase. Confirmed 2018/19 playing strategy?
Would be a nice start but we have lots of work to do. Hopefully he can stay injury free and we arent paying him overs.

Perfect fit for JAs style, but yeah - has a history of injury and (if true) I’d say they’d be paying overs for him - Glory wouldn’t let him go cheap.

But yeah, one of 3-4 critical signings for next season - still need a right wing, AM and CDM and then 3-4 squad fillers.

Id love for us to try and get Genreau, Tongyik and Pierias from City for the squad and pushing starters. Tongyik was immense last year and was in the Socceroos conversations (remember Ange saying he nearly picked him) but Joyce doesn't appear to rate him for some reason and not playing should make him cheap. The other two are full of potential/fringe starters and play CM and RB - both positions we will need some support in.
I'd also be down for O'Doherty - again see him as a fringe starter but he's better than what we have and also young and hungry. Kenny Athiu as a second striker, too.
Absolute dream news would be somehow convincing Hatem Ben Arfa to come play in Aus. Sounds like the MLS is really trying to woo him. But 💰 💰 💰 lol. He would win us the league on his own!

As a youth player, would they have confidence that signing for Roar would be a good move?

JA has shown next to no ability to develop youth players, as he seems to just focus on experience as his first priority.

Just not something that fills me with confidence for your season next year if JA is still around.

Jury’s out on that one. In the plus column is Maclaren, Borrello and Brown. You can also credit Aloisi with Petratos who was nothing when JA arrived.

You give him too much credit Waz. Maclaren, Borello, Brown and Petratos were all regular A League 1st team players under other coaches. 3 of them were already premiership players. Any youth player that has made a 1st team debut under Aloisi has gone nowhere.

Maybe. But we’re talking about possibly Taggart, O’Doherty and DaSilva who are all playing in the HAL just like the players mentioned, the question was why would they sign for Aloisi? The answer is to get what they got ....

Good points Waz. They are a few good examples of players that have done well in JA coached teams.

At the end of the day, it does appear to be important that we see a player that has been developed and brought through to a starting player, so that would be the true test.

Interesting times ahead.

try looking up @smatt1616, he was one of two on twitter yesterday (can’t find the other one)

Even if it’s true as a “done deal” until it’s announced there’ll always be competition. It makes sense that he’d want out of Glory as he’s playing second fiddle to Keogh (sound familiar?) and he’s not going to go to Victory behind Bes, City behind Fornaroli, SFC behind Bobo or WSW behind Reirra. There’s only Roar with a blank piece of paper in the forwards.

Good points Waz. They are a few good examples of players that have done well in JA coached teams.

Three players doing well in 2 seasons and then leaving.
I'd argue that Petratos did nothing more under JA than he'd done before, and then was so desperate to leave that he made up some story about needing to be near family - then headed to SE Asia?  He's then done much better since he left Brisbane. Claiming Petratos is an Aloisi success story is as long a bow as you can possibly draw.

I disagree entirely on Petratos. The first year with JA he played all 29 games, scored 7 goals and assisted 7 goals. In a season where we missed the title by a point he was probably our standout player (although many Roar fans were stuck in Petratos is shit mode - as they were for Jamie Young for most of this season, and Corey Brown last season, oh, and Jacob Pepper ... there’s a pattern with Roar fans).

The following season Roar made the unnecessary signing of Holman who displaced Petratos to the bench for much of the season which is typical of their decision making - say what you will about Petratos but it wasn’t necessary to replace him with a marquee player when there were glaring gaps elsewhere in the side. Worse still, Roar were better when Holman was out and Petratos was in ... he didn’t get a million dollar contract and a $300k transfer fee in to Korea because he was shit.

But so what if you knock out Petratos - soneone like Taggart would look at Maclaren and Borrello, both of whom sing JAs praises, and say “I want some of that for me”

JMac was scoring for fun before he came but I can agree he flourished under JA. Borello was constantly benched and only got to playing after he essentially forced himself into the team by scoring 8 goals in 3 games. Had also been a youth player here for ages. Pepper was also arguably the worst player in the league last year. I can admit he's improved and is maybe a serviceable player but hardly worth a starting spot in a top three team (which you seem to think he is). I'd much rather Tongyik and LDV to partner with Papa than Pepper and it's not even a close argument.

Hopefully we start getting some news through soon but

Yeah, and look I pretty much share the same reservations with Aloisi but think the lower risk is Aloisi even though we might be better off with a new coach. But they’re not getting rid of him so we have him for next year, like it or not.

6 months ago I’d have taken Gombau but he seemed to be trying to recreate “old Adelaide” at WSW and I wouldn’t think that is what we need; Mulvey shouldn’t return given the way he lost the playing group last time and really only Tribuliex inspired anything interesting - but even he’s unproven.
