@bohemia,
so the crowds for the ACL are better than Wellington's. Actually not bad in my opinion. Well done to SFC and MV fans.

This year's average is up on last year, however nowhere near the highs of the first few years. About middle of the pack. A long time ago indeed that Victory were getting 20k+ ACL crowds.

The FFA needs to pressure the AAFC to schedule the Australian teams home matches during the Australian school holidays. Victory played their overseas matches during school holidays but home matches on mid week nights during school term. It's not that hard to work out that if you want kids to come school holidays is the time.

The top 6 is great idea. Australians love any kind of finals. The more finals the more crowds and ratings *cough 7.7k *cough If we throw enough finals, marquee players and derbies at the league maybe the problems will be resolved. Forza AFLX model

Was commenting with a a few friends that there is absolutely no way that a Canberra team would pull anything except significantly more than 7.7k for a home finals match. This is the problem with fabricating support bases out of thin air, and precisely the reason that the FFA would be well-advised to take a look at where the fans are without a team rather than listening to the foxtel overlords.
Listen to foxtel > more dud clubs > game doesnt grow/goes backwards > foxtel loses interest
Or
Focus on building our own great product > piss foxtel off for a minute > ratings/crowds/interest grows > more money from foxtel

Hardly alot of choice. I guess taking advantage of natural divisions helps to better sell a team to the public, look at WSW and Sydney. Melbourne City's only division is that it is not Victory and it is owned by the weathly city group. Best bet would be for City to move out to Bundoora, near the training facility and play there, but no-one wants to give up on AAMI park one of the best venues in the Australia.

They came up against South Melbourne, the ffa were so obsessed with keeping anything ex efnik nsl related out that they give the heart consortium the license without them even needing to make a legitimate presentation. In fact Bundoora was never on the table and was a last minute thing. The process for the 2nd Melb license was pure corruption. Unfortunately the morons at my club are still at it with this pipe dream 3rd license.

Funnily enough, we got our highest crowd to a dead-rubber. I was legitimately expecting <1000 people to attend. Thank you to the enormous Chinese student community I guess.

Before the FFA Cup and during the peak of the a lick season. Otherwise they are dead silent because they hold their own generally. Also local leagues are rising in popularity.

Another bumper crowd to watch this quick fix finals. The more finals spots you throw at the league the better the game becomes Meanwhile MV now have to decide how they can keep their best players under the cap as their value has gone up but the salary cap has not. But that's OK. They still have a marquee position. And if they finish 6th they still get to play finals
