Yup, when he played this year he excelled. But over the past two years he’s hardly been available due to injury and it’s hard to see him improving next season.
He’s too good to retire completely though, maybe to Olympic with Steff??

+x+xNow to just have McKay and Holman hang em up as well! Holman? He was probably the best player when he was playing. He's played 30ish games across two seasons and he's getting older so will take even longer for him to recover from injuries. Can't have a player coming in and out of the lineup constantly, either. Doesn't build consistent performances across the season for the team. Also turns the ball over more than any player I've ever seen - particularly in the hole behind a striker - and has the first touch of a buffalo. Would likely be seeking assurances of a starting role when healthy and a decent pay packet. Pass. Rather have DDS.

Holman or DDS/O’Doherty. No contest.
If those two aren’t available it’s orobably the use of a visa?

Much as I love Akbari I’m not sure he can control the midfield for us.

Bowles has allegedly re-signed according to Marco
Not sure what that means for Pepper but if he's played himself into a bigger contract I'd like to look at Tongyik and Aspro pretty seriously on the cheap (think Aspro did his ACL but)

Bowles is a must sign imo ... can play anywhere in the back 4 and is probably the best partner for Avraam.

+xMckay one year, doesn’t say on Hingert Whole thing reads like a bloody love letter to McKay. Expect him to be starting next season and giving the ball away to opponents like it's free. Probably pick up a few more reds amongst a number of Kraft cheese singles. I'm very disappointed that he will be our captain after his conduct this season and moreso that he will 100% play every minute next season. We barely snuck into sixth this year with a nonexistent midfield. I get the feeling we will be lucky to finish that high next year.

@ BrissyRoo
Share those feelings on the captaincy. Take it off him, give it to (Avraam? TK?) someone that has to start not someone that has to start .... because they’re captain.
Leave him as club captain if need be, just not team captain

Michael Thwaite is back on the Gold Coast with his family. Recon they’ll sign him as replacement for North and to cover CB and Mckay/TK as DM.

Met him a few times and seems like a good bloke but it'd be another old player from a team that missed the playoffs. Tongyik/Aspro over Thwaite all day every day.

What do they say about people doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? McKay and TK failed as midfielders this season ,so maybe another year and they will have more experience? When you have DM's who can only defend deep suggests JA is going through the library looking at different buses to park for next year.Presumably JA thinks the reason Roar failed this year was the forwards couldn't capitalise on long balls.Engine room apparently was AOK.

Sad that Matty will end his time at Roar being criticized by fans, but if he’s still captain next year we can write off 2018/19.

Word is it’s a Mckay -> Caletti handover season. Still think the risk is TK gets injured and we’ve nothing in central midfield again
It’s not these re-signings that will tell us JAs plans - it’s what he dies with the No. 9 position, right wing and AM. They’re the big three signings where you’d expect money and visa’s to be used.

Much prefer Matty stays in a leadership role and if he only gets a run here and there I'm sure he'll gracefully accept that. Jack "brick foot" Hingert however is not up to standard.

Earlier on he needed to beef up and he's done that a bit but still requires more strength. Pepper, I didn't appreciate in the past but he looks confident and strong in the back (centre) line. Happy to hold on to him now.

The problem is he won't play that role nor would he 'gratefully accept' it. Matty McKay is one of the most arrogant blokes running around in the A League (in his prime this was actually a good quality). He is Lucas Neil incumbent - will never recognise he's past it. Needs to be told/released.

Hingert didn’t “stumble” he tried a freakin maradona turn in the most dangerous part of the pitch against one of the most dangerous players in the competition ...
