Guys, the league a player plays in is just one consideration of a player's career.
Maybe he actually enjoys living in Scotland, has a few good mates there, loves the club and its facilities and got given a massive payrise out of this deal?

Yes I can say that traveling gets old quickly particularly if he gets a wife and kids

Will win trophies and play Champions League every year.

Is rewarding Celtic's loyalty with his own, will probably get snapped up in a year or two if he has more standout seasons.

This is also Celtic wanting a return on investment one day.

Nothing mind boggling here.

It seems to be both win win for player and club. Rogic has a lot of career security now, and the club will have to get a transfer fee for him to release him, which I assume they know will come one day. If he keeps dominating he will be snapped up for sure by a bigger club.

If he gets a big offer from england he'll still be able to go. It just means Celtic, a club he clearly has a passion for, will get a proper payout if it happens.

The interest will always be there for him. Celtic get bigger transfer fee. has a fallback plan if things go pear shape at the WC. Good decision from both parties.

Good on the lad. Celtic have stood by him and it's paid off for them I n the last few years. Check the social media, the fans fuckin love Tommy.

If a club wants him enough they'll pay up. If not, a few more big seasons and he could be a club legend...Especially if he scores in a few more finals. Win-win.

Exactly. They know someone will buy him out of his contract. So many people are used to the mutual consent transfer window in Australia they dont know what a transfer market really is.

It's probably for a player to be transferred for a decent fee than be picked up as a free agent. If a club needs to pay a transfer fee for a player, they are more likely to give them game time. Plenty of clubs just seem to stockpile talented players to on sell.

On the other hand, there's something to be said for playing in a lower league where you're a champ, versus sitting on the bench in the best leagues.

e.g. Mitch Langerak's career seemed great when he went to Dortmund, but arguably his career never got into orbit because he sat on the bench so much, compared to Mat Ryan getting the number one position in the lower Belgian league.

e.g. Brett Holman was doing so well at AZ Alkamaar, but his career never recovered when he tried the Premier League with Aston Villa.

e.g. Likewise, David Carney was doing well at Twente, and then his career spiralled downwards when he tried the Premier League with Blackpool, and only get back on track when he got back to the A-League.

e.g. Mustafa Armini, it sounded great when he got a contract with Dortmund, but maybe he would have been better off starting off in a lower league. Sure, he's in the lower leagues now, but he wasn't getting 1st team football during the period when other early-20's players were getting selected for the Socceroos.

e.g. Josh Brillante and Terry Antonis, having contracts with massive Serie-A teams, but not getting any game time. Arguably, Brillante would not be in World Cup contention if he had stayed as a bench warmer with a top Serie-A team, and Antonis hasn't started his push for a permanent Socceroos selection.

e.g. Jason Davidson, was getting regular game time at Heracles in the Dutch league, and then he tried the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, and it's been downhill from there.

Then you look at guys like Jackson Irvine and Luongo who started in League 1, and remained in the 2nd tier Championship, and they're getting regularly selected for the Socceroos simply because of regular 1st team football.

Aaron Mooy did well to start with lowly Hudderfield. It could be he might not be in the World Cup squad if he had stayed with Manchester City. In fact, if he had stayed as a bench warmer with City, we know he would not be where is now.

Would Brad Smith's career be in a better position if he never went to Liverpool?

Ok, I admit this isn't a conclusive argument, since there are many Aussie players who started at the lower tiers, and never made it out.

Although some on here would prefer to see him testing himself at one of the powerhouses of bundelsiga 2 like bochum, sometimes a guy just wants to have a long term deal at one of the biggest and most popular football clubs in the world.

Good set up for the meantime. It should bring a massive fee for Celtic if he decides to leave. Slightly annoyed but if he's fit and playing well he'll move at some point.

your really saying.... if Mooy was in the current City team that had the title done in December he wouldnt get picked? He prob would have gotten a go before Yaya at times.. lol

This.

Yeah have to agree with him staying. I dunno, it just seems like clubs are becoming more and more instable this day and age.

Can only imagine it getting worse as years go by. Volatility of falling out of favour with so and so manager and team etc

He's on a win/win really if he sticks it out gets better and then later he can choose to go else where.

He's got abundance of opportunities to improve in the shop window under Rogers and w/ Celtic.

Rogic won't play there for 10 years either. For starters, his first couple of seasons were poor (mostly injuries) and he barely played, so they don't count. And if he does well then he won't play the full 5 years there most likely.

Celtic took a gamble on him and gave him a chance. Then they stood by him and let him work his way back up after injuries. Now they're playing him regularly in a way that's minimising any further injuries and he is super popular. I'm not much a fan of Scottish football, but him staying there is perfect for him.

There's just that unfortunate Scottish tune to it. 'It's Scotland though.' he doesn't particularly do well in European competition. I'd like to see him against better opponents with better team mates around him.

Scotland shouldn't be the long term goal. Keep him doing well until the Asian Cup then perhaps a move Summer 2019 or 2020. But one should strike the iron while hot.

This new deal shows Celtic will probably demand a massive fee meaning half the Bundesliga are unlikely to pay it. The risk of bigger clubs is he'll be benched more often.

They'd have to borrow heavily but Nürnberg are a decent attacking side who should manage to stay up next season. I was hoping he'd transfer there after Möhwald we took to Bremen.

Because Rogic is at Celtic and for a.decent amount of time,  he will go down as a Celtic man,  he will be loved and adored forever. If he goes to an English team, you're soon forgotten after you leave.

I don't think many on here understand what Celtic is, a club equal to Man Utd in the UK, a club with a following so huge that it holds every European attendance record.

The only limitation Celtic has on them, is the small population of Scotland.
