+xAssuming it’s true about the Dane then we’ve got 21/23 contracted players with a visa-marquee DM to come. Franjic would have been on a mid salary (say $120k-$160k) which is more than enough to get Nigro and leave some spare. Are there any other suitable Aussies out there for that price? do you think the Visa marquee DM is still being looked for ?

@ miron Mercedes
They definitely say they’re looking for a visa-marquee DM but there’s no names in the frame yet (at least they’re not saying there is). As the European season has just started to wrap up it’s the next month where players make the big career decisions so I don’t think it’ll be a quick signing but if this is the only outstanding signing come July we’ll be in good shape. I’m hoping they look to France and Germany again

Yup, that’s excellent work. Including the Dane that’s 21 players. That’s pretty good.
One key player to come, the marquee (just hope they’ve got some good scouting going on) and one low to mid range player to replace Franjic.

Average age of total squad so far which is 21 players by the start of the season = 27.2 Average age of likely starting 11, 10 so far is = 29 Based on this lineup of Young, O-Toole, Devere, Papa, Hingert, Kristensen, Mauk, Mikkelson, Eric, Taggart I didn't realize Kristensen was so old, 36 by the start of the season, Mckay will be 36 at the start of next year, Holman 35 by the start as well.

Looking at Kristensens age as well, good chance he might get injured so the Marquee DM like you said will be very important.

@ Mr. B
It’s why I think Nigro, who is a DM by trade, would be a good Franjic replacement.
Also Caletti has to break through and take Mackay position this year

Because it’s the middle of the football season we’ve got to have motocross hosted at Suncorp Stadium in Feb 23rd next year, right .... https://m.facebook.com/SuncorpStadium/photos/a.392233744173582.92848.103012763095683/1908443192552622/?type=3&comment_id=1908536785876596¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic¬if_id=1527644457017953&ref=m_notifBut hey, let’s fucking upgrade a Rugby Stadium so football can play second fiddle at TWO rectangular stadiums.

So I guess on top of this we will have the usual other disruptions that cover the whole month of December, concerts etc Remember when Suncorp was praised as one of the best playing surfaces, I do

I’d expect at least one game to be moved away again because of this or the pre-Christmas concert. Cairns again??

Having Ballymore upgraded (paid for by the state/federal govt at absolutely no cost to football!) is the only solution to being able to move games when this bullshit concert/event shit happens. Cairns is a fuckin idiotic place to move games to during the hottest part of the year FFS. Last game there was a disaster.
Redcliffe and dolphins stadium will be an option. Honestly though the scheduling team have time to rejig this so there should be a way to keep it at home.

@ primtech
Ballymore is NOT the only solution. Perry Park can be upgraded as could a couple of other NPL grounds.
Rugby won’t do football any favours once they’ve got their state grant.

No word yet. I know several players have flown in this week ready for the start of training on Monday and the rumour was the Dane would be amongst them.
I don’t think Roar have officially announced Mauk yet have they? Maybe they’re planning a Monday morning press blitz lol?

With Maclaren and Petratos both going to Russia Roar will pocket a six figure fee even if the Socceroos go out in the group stage. Might be enough to stave off a winter crisis lol.
Not bad, and fair play to JA who was responsible for accelerating the development of both - just a pity he got seduced by Holman’s CV and didn’t stick with Dimi instead.
(and not forgetting Borello was being strongly touted for the Russia squad before he got injured).

I think it was introduced to pacify European clubs fed up with paying wages of players while they’re at the World Cup. This year FIFA will pay clubs over US$200m in compensation. FIFA basically allocates an allowance of something like US$8.5k for every day a player is at the World Cup starting from the official entry date (it’ll be something like the 10th of June) up to the day after their last match. So reasonably the fee will be something like US$150k per Socceroo player (just for the group stage) which is then allocated, pro-rata, to the clubs that have had them under contract over the last two years. Roar will get about a third of Maclaren’s fee and maybe a quarter of Pet-rats so I’d guess a little over $100k is coming Roars way Hers an article on it, the FIFA WC regulations breakdown the allocation over time if you want more detail: https://www.google.com.au/amp/dailypost.ng/2017/12/07/2018-world-cup-arsenal-chelsea-others-will-receive-209m-fifa-releasing-players/amp/

Here’s the FIFA letter on the topic. It’s slightly better than I thought as the $8,530/day payment starts two weeks before the first match https://resources.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/administration/02/91/84/59/circularno.1600-participationofclubsinthebenefitsofthe2018fifaworldcuprussia™_neutral.pdfThat makes it US$222k per player (A$293k).

Thanks Waz Is this right? all clubs that a player was signed for during the qualification phase get a share of the money based on the length of time they were with the club if selected in the final 23 Examples other than Roar -Perth get money for Risdon as do the Wanderers -Heartle$$ get money for Mooy, Cahill and Arzani -Smurfs get money for Vukovic and Arzani (youth player) -Millwall get money for Meredith and Cahill Etc

Yeah, if you look at the FIFA regulations it breaks down the fee structure. There’ll be quite a few clubs getting money - City will get 100% of the money for Arzani plus a share of Cahills.
It’s a good system as it rewards clubs for development because it rewards the two years prior to the WC

I'm pretty certain Arzani joined City at the start of the 2016/17 season as a 17 year old. which if its a two year period you get rewarded for, Sydney technically shouldn't get anything. rightly so.
