I'm sick of this "should've" crap and the "near enough is good enough" embracing of mediocrity that is rife in this country. We manage to have a chip on our shoulder AND overrate our significance at the same time. We've got some nice tourist attractions, that's about it. Shit's overpriced, our country is over-regulated (not the only ones but still...) the women are vulgar, our cultural pursuits are centred around getting pissed and pissing our money away betting on every single thing you can think of and we think ironic use of the word 'c**t' is a form of national pride. I could go on forever, baby...

Our NT has underperformed for the last 12 months, our domestic league is rubbish and watching this right now reminds me of how much it infuriates me. I don't want to go Taylor Twellman after the Trinidad game here, but for a country that's bred so many truly great sportspeople and has such a great participation rate for football, what we're seeing right now isn't good enough. More needs to be said and done about this, for a country that's supposedly as sports-mad as we are. But you just know that in a couple of days time it'll be back into headlong discussion about the AFL and the cricket and the general populace not giving a fuck about the potential football has in this country. 

The Germans don't even count goals they score in WC finals if they lose. They call it a bad WC if they make the final and lose. If we could at least start taking that attitude to not making the round of 16, that'd be a fuck load better than this...
