Martin is a late bloomer that's got NRL career written all over him. I hope we're making all sorts of effort to keep him but the reality of an edge runner who can score three tries and kick 6/6 hasn't gone un-noticed by anybody I bet.
His manager will be going for top dollar and I don't blame him and he wouldn't be doing his job if he isn't. He's gonna be 26 next year so there'll be no taking lesser deals in the hope of cashing in later, they'll be looking to cash in NOW.
And so he should.
We're gonna need NRL money for him, good honest NRL money. Because there'll be that and maybe even some stupid NRL money thrown at him from elsewhere.

Steve. I agree. Martin needs to be retained. If not we are in more trouble than we are letting on.

+xSteve. I agree. Martin needs to be retained. If not we are in more trouble than we are letting on. Playing the way he has been in last few weeks and proving he is a very good goalkicker means we need to back-end him (yes back-end) if we want to compete with other offers. But lets not get stupid with back ending half our squad. 1 or 2 players tops.

No to any back ending. It should be banned like it is in the AFL.

+xNo to any back ending. It should be banned like it is in the AFL. I second this .... I want to keep Martin... but we should trust the new club management to set the right priorities... We have some good forwards, Jackson, Klemmer, RFM, Elliott, Renouf T ... that isn't an area of weakness... Goal kicking is but there are a few options there.... To be clear I want to keep Martin, but no to paying overs or backending....

To be clear I want to keep Martin, but no to paying overs or backending.... I know we have been burnt with back-ended deals, but if we want to work the SC system as effectively as possible, we need to do it selectively and carefully on the odd occasion. Shutting the door is a knee jerk reaction to our current predicament. In fact its our current predicament that probably suggest we need to do. Remember.... the end game is to get this club back to top 4 in the quickest possible way. If we shut the door, we are at risk of losing some good up and coming players which could prolong this process. Chosing to back-end therefore becomes the easy decision. The hard decision is WHO to back-end and keep. How do you think the Sharks are signing players on their already filled SC?

FFS lets sign Valentine Holmes. Back end the deal. Whatever. Just get him. He has x-factor. We already lost the Cookie monster. May as well get one back.

Yes it was. If the SOO haters didn't like that game, i think they should find another sport to follow. That was one of the best. From both teams. Nothing left in the tank.

Well done to Billy Slater. Good to see him go out as a winner. He played well. Man of match shoukd have been Val Holmes. That catch near the end as he was falling was marvellous.

So Dean Pay will rebuild Bulldogs into a force much like Fittler did with NSW hopefully.....
If Slater got man of the series..... then Dman needs to be made an OAM for his service to Clubs NSW & the Liqour industry

I'm easily amused and this story from Twitter amuses me no end.
A computer tech was relating how he's seen and found some weird stuff in peoples homes (and on their comp) in his career. And at this one old fella's home he goes in and there's a magnificent toy train set running through the whole house. The old fellas proud of it and he's got a cockatoo also sitting on his shoulder and he tells the techy that as the bird can't fly he let's it ride the trains around the house to get around.
All cute, but not so weird.
Anyway he's working on the old fellas computer when he hears clickety-clack clickety-clack and look up to see a toy train crossing his vision with the cockatoo riding it having a great old time. OK, so the old fella told him that, so not unexpected and very cute.
What he wasn't expecting was for the cockatoo to calmly look him directly in the eye and say "Choo-choo motherf****er!".

+xSlater Man of the Series after only playing 2 of the 3 games ..what a player ;) It seems that this is a good argument to have SOO the first team to win 2 games. This 3rd game really had no relevance whatsoever...zero...NSW had won the series and whether they liked it or not would have clocked off to some extent...some may say Queensland were playing to "restore pride". What a crock of schite...they had lost the series. Go back to how it was intended...first to 2 wins...no dead rubber...bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbut wait, that little thing called greed. The saps will come to the third game...fekk the players...fekk the nrl

Marki, yep I am an SOO hater. Did I enjoy the game? The standout for me was the way that the Blues played for each other especially during those prolonged qld attacks. The Blues did the jumper proud. Qld had enough ball and field position to win that game by 60 points yet just got home. I won't go on to say that the refereeing standard was rubbish as usual but I guess what would one expect especially in Queensland. My biggest joy is that now Cronk, smith and slater have all retired the nrl can put their collective pen!ses away because the wankfest is officially over....... did I happen to mention I thought that the refereeing was sh!t.

The whole thing reminded me of the 2014 GF...a one sided lovefest. Turbo, Cook or Cordner should have got WL Medal...Lockyer, Meninga and Daley should be ashamed. It means they gave Slater MOM points in both of his games, which wasn't the case. A shame as it probably makes a mockery of their judgement and reputation with widespread condemnation of their bias, at least. Refs were poor as you'd expect...saw way too much of them...they must of missed the usual limelight :) Anyway no surprise I guess. Qld always find a way :) Love Freddy's attitude..some valid points...NSWRL should be fostering and supporting success of NSW clubs more..DrG and (Dib for a change) could do something worthwhile and constructive. Bring Freddy in as a consultant at the Dogs to foster teamwork and comraderie in a low confidence team? :) https://www.theherald.com.au/story/5521628/fittler-warns-blues-rookies-to-improve/

Dan, Fittler has gotten it correct the players now have to go back to their respective teams and continue to improve. I am hoping Klemmers energy and talent rubs off onto the rest of the crew.

Brilliant stuff by Fittler ODF. Its about building a legacy and having expectations and standards whilst improving yourself and enjoying your footy. Fittler made some mistakes himself last night but the pride and confidence in themselves is evident. (At least NSW will never have to worry about Loz coaching them again you wouldn't think). https://coupler.foxsports.com.au/api/v1/article/amp/nrl/state-of-origin/laurie-daley-defends-the-selection-of-controversial-wally-lewis-medallist-billy-slater-after-origin-iii/news-story/8eedbdeece4f38b208125e8cb11e4fa6

I laugh, and harder every year, at the types who go on about how they hate SOO and all the rest and then the day after they're on forums talking about the game, usually after assuring us every year that they'll be watching re-runs of a Country Practice instead, because that's how you look cool on the intdernet.
You guys, you do know that the reason that SOO is a runaway success every year in attendance, ratings, exposure, water cooler talk and all the rest is because of YOU!!!!!!!
YOU drive it's success, every single game of every single year.
So next time you's are trying to convince everyone of your indifference, instead of telling us all how you'll be ignoring it - how about ignoring it.

Actually i thought the refereeing was spot on. He rightly penalised Sims for tackling the marker and also Klem for tripping off the ball. Sin bin on maloney was spot on. Slater no-try was correct. In fact i cant think of even 1 decision thst was wrong or unwarranted. Maybe one of NSW six again was questionable but hardly talking about. ODF, i suspect you dont like the gane of rugby league but only the Bulldogs. I do believe the shield should be awarded to the winning team in front of thrir homr ground though. Even if the 3rd game is played, NSW should have been given the shield at ANZ stadium.

Ahh the sanctimonious Zef giving his expert opinion once again......... my reasons for disliking SOO is over the years there have been so many games destroyed by poor adjudication in an attempt to appeal to the masses. Been watching them even before they became SOO in 1980. So Zef before you fall off your pedestal just think about the things you don't like but still have a "peep".

+xSo Zef before you fall off your pedestal just think about the things you don't like but still have a "peep". I can't think of anything, not one single thing. I don't like AFL, don't watch it. Don't like tennis, don't watch it. Don't like basketball, don't watch it. So I really don't know what you're talking about. And i got to add if your "peep" means watching the whole game, each game, every year, and then coming on forums telling us you don't like it - well, firstly, I don't think that's just a "peep" and secondly that's a hell of a long time spending watching something you don't like.
