+xSo can somebody tell me if Victory can sign another marquee player or is triosi and Honda it???Does anyone actually know the rules and what triosi is on?? Like other said above, you cant have a 'guest' marquee if you havnt filled your other two spots. Also, only TWG has posted the news, so a misunderstanding wont be a surprise. Then again the FFA make up rules as they go so who knows

You can have 2 marquees, none of FFAs business who If you want another they have to be Marketable FFA decide if thats the case. Also how much they'll chuck in.

Correct The only caveat I would say is that the original Timmy rule was reported as only being approved by the Franchises for that one season. Since then I have seen no new approval for this season,but I also do not know if FFA need to get it. Last Season the $3m was given to the Franchises instead of a TV deal boost, despite them rejecting the idea.

A Guest Player can play a maximum of 14 games in the A-League. The Guest Player sits outside the normal squad is exempt from visa requirements.
It is not a season long position

It's hard to see Victory/the FFA paying $3 million for a 14 game blow-in.

Taken from the A-League website as it stands
Players can receive payments from Clubs outside the Salary Cap in certain circumstances as approved by FFA. These ‘exemptions’ or ‘allowances’ incentivise Clubs to spend in specific strategic areas such as attracting marketable world class players to the Hyundai A-League (Designated or Guest Players), retaining long-serving Players on multi-year contracts (Loyalty Players), encouraging the development of young Australian Players (Homegrown Players) or identifying late-developing Players that may have missed the traditional player pathway (Mature Age Rookie).
The following discretionary payments are outside the Salary Cap: Designated Players – A Club can spend an unlimited amount on two Players (Foreign or Australian) it nominates as Designated Players; Guest Player – A Club can spend an unlimited amount on one Guest Player who must satisfy the prescribed marketability criteria as approved by FFA. A Guest Player is restricted to a maximum of 14 Hyundai A-League matches;
Looks like they got rid of the word Marquee

Great signing. Look forward to watching him play.
I'm a little dissapointed with the lack of FFA bashing in this thread. Not a single conspiracy or complaint about favouritism

+xOTOH did Cahill even play 14 matches in a year? He played 22 games in his guest year. The rules were all messed up that year. I suspect because FFA wanted Timmy, City were the only club willing to pay for him, and then only on the condition that a) they got the shirt they want, and b) he didn't count in the cap. I would not be at all surprised if Honda now has to take up one of the marquee spots.

Didn't FFA pay for Timmy?... -PB FFA paid $500-$750k for doing FFA/HAL promotional work as a separate contract from Timmys CFG contract CFG paid $Xm for the player, the Media coverage and the Sky Blue Branding Timmys contract with CFG was 3 years, Front loaded and then partially refunded when he bailed early. Assuming Dave Lewis isn't talking out of his arse, FFA are just about to pay double or triple for a Japanese dude that'll do very little for the League

Cahill was a old journeyman (and never played for a big club, only an average club) from china by the time he came and sucked everyone he could dry.

This Dave Lewis guy has zero credibility. He seems like a forum troll who, no better than the likes of the 'Secret Agent' or other such guess artists. No-one who's usually in the know has reported anything, so I'd highly doubt this muppet knows anything

+xFFA are just about to pay double or triple for a Japanese dude that'll do very little for the League A 32 year old who was wearing number 10 for AC Milan the season before last, has multiple European trophies and last season played 36 games including the Club World Cup costs more than a 36 year old who hadn't played in Europe for four years, never won any silverwear there and the previous season played 17 games in China? Tell me more.
