Here’s an update on the Flamini deal which is still on. I spoke with David Pourre this morning about the match as the RSF has done a lot of promo work pregame as well as handing out flyers at the game, and he wanted to know how it went for us.
Basically a deal with Flamini’s agents was done last week but fell down on some grey areas around his business interests (he didn’t explain what they were and I presume they’d be confidential anyway) and really the deal was dead last Friday. Over the weekend the publicity in France and Australia reached the player himself and it re-ignited the deal again and negotiations restarted on Monday and Center around the agreed deal last week plus accomodating his business interests
Negotiations are continuing and its still 50/50

The next competitive game for Roar is 21Oct game one of the HAL.Almost 3 months. What now? How ridiculous we have to wait so long to start the season. The players could go back on holiday and come back next month.

It’s a crap way of doing it crimsoncrusoe. This is the FFA way of course looking for “clean air”
They should start the season in early September imo.

Haven't FFA put the season start back two weeks because of internationals? NRL and AFL finish at the end of Sept.Thats almost three weeks clean air. Then we have big bash in the middle of December for two months for the first time. Clean air just for a season launch is pointless now.Time to emerge from the shadows.

It’s one thing to say you’re shopping for a DM but another to find a good one that’s avialable. or that you can afford.
The question if there is no one available do you wait and see, even as long as January or sign another pivotal position instead?
Martinez along with Taggart would make a formidable attack formation. But it would have to displace Mauk to the back but (as discussed before) this is a position he can play (and in a 433 a position he would most likely play) so no dramas. TK/Mauk with Caletti/Mackay as back up
Anyway, at best it’s a soft rumour but better than raking over another cup exit, sigh ....

A guy called Willo Flood kept coming up in my BRFC Google Alert late yesterday. I couldn’t get the link (to the Scottish Sun) to work last night but this morning a few more turned up. This one from the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45125429“Former Dundee United midfielder Willo Flood is set for a move to Australia with Brisbane Roar.” Former Man City, Celtic, Middlesbrough, Aberdeen, Dundee United Player, a recent transfer to Bali Utd fell through and he’s s free agent https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willo_Flood

Kinda my thoughts also. Transfer rumours are always hit n miss of course but the UK football journos wouldn’t normally waste their time on such a minor rumour if there wasn’t some truth in it. Hopefully it’s just his agent trying to spook a local club in to signing him.

From Flamini to this bloke. Please no. That Martínez guy looked better than Flood. Guys only 5 foot 6 as well. We’ve already got a small enough midfield.

It’s a very unusual prospect. Sounds more like his agent got the map out after Bali Utd fell through rather than Roar went searching for him. Very promising early part of his career but then the wheels seem to have come off a bit in the last few years. Went searching for videos but there aren’t many as he doesn’t score much but here’s one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ixHeeX2zhSk

Willo Flood hey. What a name lol. Have a go at him, little leprechaun will probably melt in the Brisbane summer. On the other hand, a player like that has the potential to be a fan favourite if he turns up.

O’Donnovan played in the same league. Don’t discount the attraction/money in Indonesia.

I had no interest in Flood. Would be very disappointed if this were true.

Bearing in mind Flood is only one of 4 or 5 players rumoured to Roar over the last few weeks (Flood, Flamini, Puyo, Martinez .... plus there was talk they were looking at two Dutch players after the Flamini deal fell through last weekend?) I wouldn’t get too carried away yet.
If they did sign him I’d be interested in their rationale. At best he is a functional player at worst a journeyman. Is he that much better than Caletti? And as a backup to an aging TK/Mackay is he an appropriate age?
I’m hoping it’s just his agent trying to put pressure on a Scottish club to sign him up, it’s a plausible story “he was going to Bali Utd but that fell through, but I’ve got an offer from an Australian club now ...but he’d love to stay in Dunfermline... similar weather and all”

It's a big drop off in quality and experience from Flamini to Flood. It would read as, "We tried and failed so just signed this random anyway".
