Fixing the halves and kicking game issue should be the #1 priority in this club.
I reckon Frawley + Lewis is one of our best halves combo. Lewis and Foran may also be. Not sold on Cogger although im sure I have seen him kick better than Frawley.

I agree Marki but Cogger does one thing way better than Frawley, pass the ball, get players running on to his passes and create possible line breaks.

And Cogger provides direction.

Apart form that they are similar, neither are great defenders or have a great kicking game, but Cogger is perhaps young enough to improve.

You say it as if everybody knows...I for one didn't watch the game against Manly after I knew the result...wear a loss very poorly

I'm afraid I don't understand what you are saying there Steve? :)...you didn't know that Smith sustained a broken thumb in training?

He does pass nice and quick and direct. Good technique for an early ball to someone with strike.

So it'd be good to have some strike two wide of him.

I'll be very disappointed if the Sharks managed to sign Barba and still keep Val Holmes.

Both players are electric and will do wonders for membership drive as well as attract new fans to the club. There are some small rumours out there that the Dogs are after Barba. Paul Kent also mentioned it on NRL360. I'm hoping it's true.

I think the last 2 years proved that no DH policy doesnt increase memberships, but having a winning team or excitement machine players does - even if they get themselves into trouble off field.

Flanagan was very smug when asked if he would move on Holmes to get Barba back. He dismissed the question by saying we only have so much cap space and that 2 in 1 doesn't fit. But I reckon he was telling fibs (or was it Dibs?). I reckon with Ramien going to knights, he'll ultimately move Dugan to centre and claim they have freed up enough money with Ramien, Lewis retiring and some others to get Barba. Who knows, he might even back-end a contract.

Couple more things I noticed and loved on nrl360 this week....

1) Paul Kent absolutely dismissing the question by Ikin as to would Manly consider getting Des back as coach after Barrett leaves.... PK in a low toned voice killed it off by saying, no chance, not after what he did to them. Lol loved it.

2) Josh Reynolds. Bleeds blue and white. We are a full season in and he still refers to the Dogs as "us" and "we".

Ben Barba is 29, will be 30 next year. His best years are behind him. No matter his talent, and I don't deny it, he's a player on the way down.

If we're gonna spend marquee money on marquee players, let's spend it on marquee players in their prime or on their way up.

Keiran Foran should teach you that, he taught me that. So no more Keiran Foran's.

Trump Watch:

Reported direct from sources within the White House - in other words another leak.... again.

Trump has been upset a few times with Japanese PM Shinzō Abe because he doesn't answer or respond to his calls IMMEDIATELY.

Aides have pointed out to the Dumb F*** it might work better if he understood time zones and so didn't ring PM Abe at 2am in the morning Japan time.

True story.

What a f***in' moron.

I take your point, and I'd love Val Holmes probably more, but just feel Barba will come a little cheaper given his past indiscretions.

Also remember, we (Des) signed Foran on hope of returning to form. Barba is IN form. If he goes for around 600k, it's a worthy investment. I've seen 7s do much worse.

Marki.... let it go about Josh Reynolds

I’m happy we’ve moved on from him

We now have a younger version of him that possesses many of JR traits but even better in Lewis

It’s a shame Lewis didn’t get a start earlier in the season

I hope Segeyaro comes on board.... a decent No9 will finally add that missing ingredient to our attack in 2019 & should combine well with Lewis, Foran, Cogger and our fullback

I supported signing him and I still hope he gets fit because he'd still be one of, if not the, most important players in the club fit and firing. But I don't want to be gambling big chunks of the SC on what players have done rather than what they're doing any time again soon.

Barba's heading in the wrong direction.

He got given a lifeline by Pay late last year & from what I’ve seen from him in 2018, unfortunately the Dogs & Lichaa don’t mix going forward

Your thoughts on Holmes Zef?
Obviously we would have to pay around 700-800k for him and play him at fullback.

I think he is worth it if the club thinks business-wise (marketable, could get some TPA's, definitely will increase memberships and could attract other top players who may want to play alongside someone of his talent). He is also worth it from a football perspective too. Club just needs to decide if they "spread" their cap across the park or load it onto the forwards again.

100% agree. Lichaa would do ok in a team that doesnt need the hooker to anything but tackle (roosters, eels, sharks). But in a team like ours where our halves are lacking talent or form or kicking skills, we cant afford a tackler at hooker.

We need creativity and kicking game. In fact we without a fullback that can kick, multiply my above sentence by 2.

I have no thoughts on Holmes Marki, at least in relation to Bulldogs AND Holmes.

None, zero, nada, splat, splat, splat

Everything you say about him, and I agree he's a wonderful player, but it means absolutely nothing to us. We can't afford him now, nor next season nor the season after that.

And having just come out of an era of buy now pay later, pay DEARLY later. I have absolutely nil interest in visiting it again.

Have you learnt nothing from credit card management?

And btw you're kidding at what you think he'll come at.

I doubt he'll come at that, even near that, for either the Cows or Sharks, and we'd have to beat them by probably close to 15% plus.

I got no problem paying big money for marquee players, I got no problem paying overs to shift big money marquee players. But I got a major problem with doing it when don't have the SC space so you put it out to the never-never so by year three you have to surround him with stiffs because he's eaten all your SC money.

We'll buy our marquee with marquee money plus when there's room in the budget to do so.

And that'll come sooner the less stupid knee-jerk signings we make in the meantime.

Play the long game, it's the winning one.

Lichaa gets a bad rap mainly due to the quality of our halves.

He would definitely look like a good player  in a team with better halves, or playing hooker in an earlier era.

These days a lot of attacking plays start at dummy half, the dummy half has to be smart, deceptive, quick and sharp and needs a quality pass.

Lichaa is best as a running dummy half, if we had a quality starting 9, Lichaa would make a good 14, as he could easily shuffle back and play lock.

From what we have seen he isn't elite, but is no where near as bad as his critics often suggest.
