The current u20s have a lot of promise, talented attacking and midfield options, best in at least 10 or 15 years for me. Very promising generation and probably technically better than the current Socceroos outfit...
The benefits of the new development system coming to fruition but just don’t tell this to the skeptics...the next few years are going to be interesting times ahead.
Imagine how many more can be developed through more professional opportunities? Hmm

+xDandenong Thunder represent. Memeti was at MC youth and now playing at Thunder NPL. Played nearly every game this year. Great to see the FFA still looking outside the box. Wouldnt be to many 17/18 year olds playing NPL seniors.

Dandenong thunder have a good record with producing some quality players, there are four players including Mersim, either 2000 or 2001 born at Thunder who have played over at least 5 games or had 5 apps for the Seniors.

+xWouldnt be to many 17/18 year olds playing NPL seniors. Probably because they don't have much of a reason to until the artificial ceiling to the top level is removed, not to mention no transfer fees.

Seven of Melbourne City’s Academy players have been selected in the Australian U16 training camp ahead of the AFC U16 Championships in Malaysia next month. Idrus Abdulahi, Jordan Bos, Luke Duzel, Thomas Lambiris, Dalibor Markovic, Ahmad Taleb and Joshua Varga have been selected in Joeys Head Coach Trevor Morgan’s 26-man squad to assemble in Melbourne ahead of the major tournament. Following the latest training camp in New South Wales, Morgan says he’s continuing to build up his squad towards the major tournament. “With this camp we are looking to build upon the foundations that we established during our last camp in Sydney,” said Morgan. “Over the six days we will be looking to challenge the players to take them to the next level both individually and as a team. “This camp will serve as an important phase of preparations for our AFC U-16 Championship campaign and it is vital that all players have a clear understanding in regards to the style of football we want to play in Malaysia.” The squad will take on Melbourne City’s academy squad in a warm up match during their camp. The Joeys qualified for the major tournament after finishing top of the group ahead of Vietnam, Cambodia and Mongolia last September. They will face Iraq, Korea Republic and Afghanistan in the group stages of the major tournament which will double as a qualifier for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru. 2018 AFC U16 Championship Match Schedule – Group D Korea Republic v Australia Saturday, 22 September 2018 Venue: Petaling Jaya Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Kick-off: 8.45pm (local); 10.45pm (AEST) Australia v Iraq Tuesday, 25 September 2018 Venue: UM Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Kick-off: 4.30pm (local); 6.30pm (AEST) Australia v Afghanistan Friday, 28 September 2018 Venue: Petaling Jaya Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Kick-off: 4.30pm (local); 6.30pm (AEST) [/quote] https://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/news/international-city-academy-group-selected-u16-training-camp

Joeys Head Coach Trevor Morgan has named a 26-player squad for a training camp in Melbourne next week (13-19 August) as they prepare for the upcoming AFC U16 Championship in Malaysia which will be held later this year. Morgan is looking forward to working with the players again after a successful training camp which was held at Narrabeen recently. “With this camp we are looking to build upon the foundations that we established during our last camp in Sydney,” said Morgan. “Over the six days we will be looking to challenge the players to take them to the next level both individually and as a team. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Melbourne City FC and Melbourne Victory for providing their respective youth teams as opposition for training matches. “This camp will serve as an important phase of preparations for our AFC U-16 Championship campaign and it is vital that all players have a clear understanding in regards to the style of football we want to play in Malaysia,” concluded Morgan. Australia qualified for the 2018 AFC U16 Championship in Malaysia after topping Group I of the qualification process in Mongolia last September. The Joeys finished ahead of Vietnam, Cambodia and Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar.
In April the Joeys were drawn in a challenging Group D for the 2018 AFC U16 Championship. Australia will need to finish first or second in a group containing defending champions Iraq, Korea Republic, and Afghanistan, to advance to the knockout phase of the competition. To qualify as one of Asia’s representatives for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru (October 2019) Australia must reach the Semi-Final stage of the tournament. Tantalising ball into the box but no one's there for it. Also, some of these guys are having trouble keeping their balance.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

This first half has been nothing short of embarrassing.
theres no connection between the 3 lines whatsoever. Akbari has lost out on strength on 3 seperate occasions against shorter blokes. Our LB looks out of place.; Ball control, passing and control in tight spaces is laughable for us compared to the Japanese. not one player has out manoeuvred his opponent so far.
Our most promising attacks have come from lucky deflections falling our way.
Pierias looks the goods at RB, and D'arrigo seems quite comfortable on the ball. Everyone else just looks like its a lazy sunday kick about.

Apparently they only got to Japan on Tuesday so they seriously lacked cohesion based on what I saw so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and judge them in the AFC qualifiers instead.
Need to improve in playing out, better combinations in attack and overall better execution, at least they defended pretty well but a lot to work on but that’s why you play these sort of games.

This is always the case. Can't remember a youth tournament where we haven't faced opponents who have spent at least twice as much time in camp as us.

Ends in a 1-0 loss to Japan.
Japan were a class above tonight, their composure on the ball and passing was a million times better than ours. It's difficult to say whether this was Japan's first choice U18 squad, but it probably isn't which is quite scary.
Ratings GK Nick Suman 5.5/10 - Solid from him, could be a little more dominant at corners considering he is nearly 2m tall. goal went through a defenders legs so that caught him out. made a couple of strong saves from range overall a solid performance.
RB Dylan Pierias 7/10 - Our best on the night, his speed over the ground is something else.
CB Noah Pagden 5/10 - for the most part looked solid, out of position a few times, his passing was very crisp I thought.
CB Kai Trewin 4.5/10 - looked shaky, at times, and just never had that solidity that you want from your CB.
LB Joel King 4/10 - looked very very nervous straight from the start. couldn't dig himself out of a hole on most occasions and going forward didn't offer much at all.
CDM Anthony Lesiotis 5/10 - Not the greatest from one of a couple players earmarked for first-team action this year for City. His passing, usually his best attribute was often wayward, his touch was heavy and his reading of the game was a tad too slow.
CDM Louis D'Arrigo 5.5/10 - had a decent first half, was our set-piece taker and he has some very nice delivery, you could see he had the game smarts over his CDM partner, his feet were quicker and his general play was tidy, if maybe sometimes a little to casual my only concern.
LM Ramy Najjarine - 4.5/10 - couldn't get going at all. There was nothing from tonight, even just a slight glimpse of his technical ability that showed he's seriously one for the future.
RM Jacob Italiano 5/10 - Really confused by his display tonight, he did a couple of good things, his bursts to break the lines are good, but his game smarts and knowing when to slow down is a worry. Numerous times whilst sprinting he'd take a heavy touch really close to the sidelines, when he should've lifted his head and put his foot on the ball to keep possession. He was never going to beat his opponent with pace tonight yet did the same thing three times.
CAM - Rahmat Akbari 3/10 - our worst performer on the night. really really disappointed by him. very weak in shielding the ball, didn't really look like producing anything or getting into the game, for the time he was on.
ST - Moudi Najjar 5.5/10 - He did as much as he could've with the service he was getting which was pretty ordinary, made some pretty nice runs and looks quick on his feet for a big lad.
Again very difficult for the youngsters, looked super hot there, which probably didn't help. The Japanese players were bloody good. But, in saying that, regardless of the weather and all the other BS, we still don't look like we have the technical ability and game smarts that most other countries naturally have. I for one bloody hope they prove me wrong in the next game.
