The AFC U-19 Championship (which is the U-20 World Cup qualifier) kicks off in six weeks. Arzani, Pasquali, Theoharus and Genreau all eligible.

AFC U-19 Women's Championship qualification starts in three weeks, and I don't see a host for our group yet on wiki, hope they get around to organising that!

Can you truly see their clubs releasing them for a youth tournament?

Seems I wasn’t lying after all - FFA just don’t announce shit!According to Twitter, Arnie is running an Olyroos camp in Canberra right now, there’s just no press coverage at all on the squad!

Im astonished!

Although being Australia I shouldn't be surprised at the lack of publicity.

Hopefully not Genreau as he's actually playing seniors, but hopefully the other three unless they're close to first team action, sure.

It would be nice to make the U-20 World Cup for a change. We've got South Korea, Vietnam and Jordan in our group, so I can see us sending players from the A-League clubs' NPL squads and losing all three games.

24 players selected as Young Socceroos prepare for AFC U19 Championships

Twenty-four aspiring Australian footballers will convene on the Central Coast tomorrow for the start of a Young Socceroos training camp in preparation for the 2018 AFC U19 Championship which will be held in Indonesia.

The Young Socceroos will be put through a week-long camp on the Central Coast, which will include practice matches against Hyundai A-League opposition.

The time that Ante Milicic’s squad spends together north of Sydney will be the first of two Australia-based camps that will be held prior to the AFC U19 Championship later this year. A Young Socceroos selection will also train on the Sunshine Coast in late September/early October.

Milicic’s Young Socceroos squad for this camp includes 21 players currently aligned to Hyundai A-League clubs, and three players – Ben Folami, Jacob Young, and Dylan Ryan – who are contracted to clubs in Europe. Folami plies his trade with Ipswich Town FC, Young is part of Sunderland AFC’s youth structure, while Ryan is contracted to Willem II Tilburg in the Netherlands.

Milicic said that the group must make the most of their time together in camp as they prepare for their Group C meetings against Korea Republic, Vietnam, and Jordan in West Java.

“The AFC U19 Championship is a crucial competition for the Young Socceroos,” said Milicic. “Not only does it act as the Asian Cup for this age group, it also doubles as the qualification process for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup™, which will be held in Poland.”

“Australia last qualified for FIFA U20 World Cup in 2013 when the tournament was held in Turkey, and it is certainly our aim to return to that elite tournament in Europe next year.

“But if we are to achieve that goal we must ensure that we make solid progress in our forthcoming camps in Australia, and arrive in Indonesia committed to the challenge that’s ahead of us,” he said.

The Young Socceroos’ 2018 AFC U19 Championship challenge will commence on Friday, 19 October 2018 against Korea Republic at the Patriot Candrabaga Stadium in Bekasi. Three days later Milicic’s men will return to the same venue to take on Vietnam, before meeting Jordan at the Pakandari Stadium in Cibinong on Thursday, 25 October 2018.

Australia will need to finish first or second in Group C to advance to the Quarter Final stage of the competition. To seal safe passage to Poland, the Young Socceroos must reach the Semi Finals of the 2018 AFC U19 Championship.

No representation of Sydney FC in this Young Socceroos squad.

Good to see Jacob Young in there, not sure he's been courted by Aus before? Also a bit concerned that Francois wasn't given a call.

Rumours floating around that Mathieu Cordier has agreed an Under 23 contract with a German Bundesliga side.

Youngest player in this group is Fabian Monge (12/07/01), another WSW player... I don't think he travelled with the boys who went to China.

Why did they get folami back for a training camp when he’s a chance of playing with the first team at Ipswich?

Does anyone know if the U19 AFC cup will be chosen from this 24 or will they add more?
As far as I can see, there's only 2 Goalkeepers there?

Interesting to see no Italiano despite other young guys who have never seen senior game time making it (e.g. John Roberts and Fabian Monge).

Disappointed not to see some European guys like Arzani, Genreau, Theoharous, Iredale, Pasquali and Ouzounidis. But most of that is to be expected.

I wonder who will be first choice striker?

He probably doesn't have a chance of playing with Ipswitch.
It was their old manager (sacked in the off season) that liked him. New one probably doesn't have him in his plans.

Delianov and Freke are literally two of the best domestic U20 GK's we have.

maybe chuck in Suman as well as third choice.

Suman... umm no.

Plenty of better options.
Gauci for one.

At least 3-4 other 3rd choice a league keepers who are born in 99/00.

Have you seen Gauci play?

who else is good enough/better than previously mentioned?

Richards?
Lee?
Mawith?
Sutton?
James?
Jurak?

I'll take Milicic's assessments gladly.

no problem with Delianov and freke.
But Driscoll is better than both.

The 3rd option since Driscoll is MIA.
I'd take gauci or mawith as 3 choice keepers based on potential.

fair enough.

I've talked with Mawith a few times, there's no doubt he's a top-class shot-stpper, the jury's still out on his footwork. But he has the mental strength to succeed, reckons he'll go overseas if he doesn't get a chance here.

Driscoll went on-loan to a sixth tier english side, he's starting from memory, not sure how thats gonna go.

Jakeb Wiseman is also a classy GK from Tuggeranong, there are some really good young 17/18 year olds playing in the Capital NPL.

Delianov is a thug. Should have sent off in the NYL Grandfinal last season for his leg breaker on Aspro. And how many goals got past him in that game (3) and how many did he let through against an NPL team on the weekend (4).

So no, keep him away from being first choice,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it almost unheard of in recent years for us to be having multiple training camps in the lead up to a youth tournament? It's been a talking point on every youth tournament thread on this site for years.

No Lachlan Brook again is quite a surprise, considering how highly rated he is at Adelaide United unless Milicic doesn’t rate him or because he’s too young like Akbari and Italiano.

Sam Silvera who did pretty well in Japan is a surprise that he’s not there, even Ruiz Diaz who did amazing last week in China could have been a shout also.

With the overseas contentment, it’s good to see Folami and Dylan Ryan in there and the keeper in Young is interesting, with the likes of Pasquali, Genreau, Arzani(if keen), Ozunidis, Prinsen, Iredale, Theoharous (who is with the Roos) and Francis there is a pretty good overseas contingent that can come in if needed.

Even the likes of Italiano, Akbari, Grozos, and others there is great depth in attacking and midfield options which is the best we had in a long time at youth level, but in Japan they seriously lacked cohesion so getting a team to gell and a solid defensive structure is the key going into the main tournament.

Short on quality wingers with no arzani, Theoharous or Italiano.
Iredale, the striker I'm sure will come in too if we make the World Cup.
