+x+x+xS. Korea just beat Japan to win the Asian Games. Something that is rare ? It means Son, who captained them to gold, doesn't have to do two years' military service. This somewhat explains their group stage loss to Malaysia as they rotated their whole squad to ensure everyone got an exemption. Apparently due to not finishing high school Son wouldn't qualify for the Army team in the K-League, if he didn't win it would have totally ruined his career. Crazy. its like the ultimate parents telling their son if you dont win this tournament you will be sent to military school lol I see what you did there.

I agree. And yet it must therefore be quite weird for the average supporter cheering them on who doesn't get out of it.

Groningen at home to Zwolle at 8:15 Sydney time. That’s prime time viewing. Aussies abroad delight for those interested.
Also for the record, I support clubs that have Australians at them. I’m a Chelsea fan first and foremost but at the moment I’m loving Celtic, hudders etc.
I wouldn’t care about these clubs if there weren’t Aussies at them

FYI guys it'll be on beIN! Looks like they have the rights again! Would be nice if somewhere in Oz they'd get the rights to the Eridivise

In a paper cut league. I swear, their rapid need for expansion has exposed them greatly.

For those watching Groningen v Zwolle, keep your eyes open for Ritsu Doan. Japanese attacking mid who won Groningen's player of the season award last term. Fun player to watch.

+xFor those watching Groningen v Zwolle, keep your eyes open for Ritsu Doan. Japanese attacking mid who won Groningen's player of the season award last term. Fun player to watch. Remember he scored against Adelaide in the ACL for Gamba Osaka, mind you Galekovic was completely at fault for the goal, but yes he is a great little player, he came into the team for Hrustic, on LW but I think Hrustic has come more centrally since then. And I think he might be the reason why.

Compulsory military service is more common than you'd think. Found out recently that Brazil has it (although it's apparently very easy to get out of and there's a lottery to see who gets picked). Finland has it too, but that long border with Russia makes it somewhat understandable.

Finland has it too, but that long border with Russia makes it somewhat understandable. You know that Australia had it that way too until December 1972? The famous 2 man ministry axed National Service which operated in the same compulsory vein as Brasil. In your 21st year you had to register. A lottery then took place where birth dates were drawn from a barrel. After that you got mail requiring you to fill out the forms, do a medical and kiss your freedoms goodbye. You were called up by the Government at 20. You got the vote at 21. You couldn't even go down the pub to have a last drink with your mates. You were too young to drink but old enough to die. Shit those were the days......

He was never that fit for City, always subbed off after about 60 minutes. Then he has no preseason and literally would have started high intensity training 2 weeks ago, not sure what people expected he was never going to be in a squad till after this international break at the earliest.
